I am sick to death of having to kill orders due to the lot limitations.

And today I got another negative for something that should have been done years
ago.

When you, the owners of Brick Link, fix this site, please, please, please include
a way for the seller to keep control of the limits on his/her store.

Thank you.

If you haven't done so already, contact Marvin directly:

He is open to ideas of how the site could be improved.

You require every lot to be at least a dollar, but you have lots that don't
add up to a dollar.

Personally, I avoid stores with lot limits. Even if my order meets their requirements,
I don't want to waste my time figuring out how to make the numbers work out.

Exactly. It's like an algebra story problem trying to figure out some store
terms.

not really, the average price of a lot has to be $1.-
buy 1 lot, pay $1.-
buy 2 lots, pay $2.-
in this it doesn't matter if 1 lot is $0.05 and the other is $1.95
it's still 2 lost for $2.-
and so on...
not that hard

Cheers,
Peter

That's probably what they meant, but that's not what their terms say.
It says "at least $1 per item lot."

That still doesn't imply an average

Sorry, as mathematician, I have a tendency to be overly pedantic.

makes me thinking...what if a 10 lot order is 10.05?
will that order also be cancelled?

No, rules can be bent, but a 200 lot 10.00 order will be cancelled.

thanks for clearing that up, but was actually responding to Jodawill's post

If lot limits become a setting, you wouldn't be able to bend the rules.

But more importantly, if you are willing to bend the rules, how can you take
issue with buyers who don't meet your terms exactly? If you're bending
them or not as you feel like it, then I would not be surprised if you have
angry customers leaving negative feedback.

Why not just make it impossible to load up on low-value lots? Stop selling parts
at a loss for 2 cents each, or use the bulk feature to sell them in lots of 25
or 50 - whatever makes it worth your time to pick the order.

There are much more buyer-friendly ways to achieve the same results. Complicated
policies that may or may not be enforced are probably not the best solution.
I realize many other Bricklink sellers do it, but Bricklink in general is very
unfriendly to buyers. I would really oppose anything that encourages sellers
who treat their customers like an annoyance even before they've ordered anything,
but if they're here to stay, then a way to easily filter them out of search
results, etc. would be great.

Sure it does.

If I tell you the per capita income in Canada, would that mean to you that each
individual earns that much, or that it is an average?

Or if I said "50 percent" would that mean 50 out of every arbitratry group of
100, or is it an average of a randomly selected 100?

I feel that Bricklink store owner are better off accepting what order come their
way. If you don't you run the risk of turning people off. I have had several
under $5.00 orders come back and order over $50.00. In the long run you are
better off accepting all orders. My mother used to say "Beggars cannot be choosers"

Incorrect.

We did just add the word "average" to make it more clear.

Our store was almost destroyed a few years ago by a string of 100+ (50+ orders)
lot 5.00 orders.

We lost thousands of dollars on labor, had to call in extra people to help and
at the end of it all we were out product, time, labor costs as well as utilities.

We took an operational loss that quarter of almost $10,000.

At that point we went to this very forum and asked for help and advice.

The "lot limit" was given to us as a solution, and it has been working ever since.

Thank you.

I hate finding shops with parts I want but with lot limits (or other unfriendly
policies that scream "Please don't waste my time buying bricks from me!")

So if the lot limits were somehow coded into the shop policies in a way that
buyers could eliminate them from search results, want list notifications, etc.
that would be great.

Sellers who want to impose lot limits would have what they want, and buyers would
have a way to avoid them. Win-win.

Instead of lot limitation a seller could place a bulk qty in his lots. Saves
time from buyer to make.. lengthy calculations

That's what I've done in some situations. I don't want to count out
a certain number of jewels for any order. It's a waste of time. So I put
them in bags of 50 and only allow people to order 50 at a time.

Sellers who want to impose lot limits would have what they want, and buyers would
have a way to avoid them. Win-win.

Just a few weeks ago, I was about to order from someone with a lot limit; it
may have been The Lonely Brick Ohio, but I can't remember for sure. I often
forget to check the store terms before filling my cart. I spent a lot of time
going through everything they have. Then right before I submitted the order,
I saw the lot limit and emptied my cart. I was just a few cents under the lot
limit, but I had so many items in my cart, it would have taken several more dollars
to bump my average up that high.

If lot limits are to be allowed at all, I do like the idea of being able to block
sellers with lot limits.

I haven't ordered from your store before, but if you can write your lot limit
in your shipping terms buyers would have to select it and would reduce people
pleadin ignorance.

secondly, you could always invoice people that didn't meet your lot limit
informing them they have to order X amount of dollars more without exceeding
Y amount of parts (and it would help to have a little wiggle room with buyers)

I would like to have a lot limit function. It would be great if people went
to check out and if they didn't meet it a message would explain why.

I would do in the neghborhood of .25 average per lot.

the last 350 parts in 100 lots for a total of $12 wasn't fun.

If I had more time to devote to BL I would got back to a $1 minimun and wouldn't
worry about lots....

That is an excellent point. We did try that for a little while, and the result
was the same. People got mad.

Thank you.

I'm still confused as to why some sellers think it's BL's responsibility.
You yourself made your individual rules, it's your job to enforce them.

You could also think about it like this;
Government makes the rules and officers enforce those rules. But officers get
paid to enforce said rules.
So you could get your coding placed to regulate your limits if you wish to pay
for it. You really shouldn't demand others do what you want without some
form of compensation

Cancelled orders cost Brick Link money. They also open the seller up for negative
feedback. So, it would be a good policy to allow the seller to set this option.

Thank you for your feedback on this matter.

They get paid with money that the government collects, not directly by the end
users of the service. So in your anology, it is indeed BrickLink's responsibility.

Who else could do the coding for lot limits besides BrickLink? If it were actually
possible for individual sellers to do themselves, it would already exist and
he wouldn't be asking for the feature in the forum. I don't quite get
what you're trying to say.

If this function will be implemented, please also add a function for buyers to
exclude stores from searches who have turned this function on.
I never buy at stores with lot limits even if I meet there terms.

I am with a lot of them I avoid at all cost stores that have lot limits. I want
to be able to go to a store and get the pieces I need, just like with my store
have no limits or anything. You want to come to my store and spend your money
then not going to limit or anything to what you can buy, just appreciate the
fact that people trust in me to buy from my store.
