| Well I think this would be extremely helpful for at least me.
Most forums I am on (I know all of BL is a whole lot different than a forum,
but that's not the point.) have a messaging system. When I send a message
to 123XYZ they get a Email. How about forcing people to use a BL internal message
system so email "fishers" don't have any dinner. (Basically they reply
through BL only and get no access to a email.) I probably worded this horribly,
but I think someone will understand it and it would be very helpful. You could
still get these messages sent to your/their email, but a "To reply, Click Here"
could be embedded in the message.
Just ideas so no one has to say "No I don't have 100 2 x 3 bricks" (Anyone
remember that message?)

I understand the motivation for sure, but if you ever look at the messages you've
sent, you may see a lot of "N/A messaged delivered to email inbox" (or something
like that or "Unread - Deleted".
About 85% of the messages I get, which include orders, questions, comments, I
view on email ONLY and never through bricklink.
I see that I have 27 new messages at this moment. Not that I haven't read
and/or responded, I just never clicked on the message link within bricklink.
I don't think I'm the exception here, so forcing me to only get messages
through bricklink would negatively affect me more than it could positively affect
you.
I've had exactly one spammer type email, but hundreds of legit messages.
Perhaps, instead of this idea, inside Bricklink's messaging system, you can
choose to respond but check (or uncheck) a spot to reveal your email to the sender..
So they can't just reply and get your email address.
Now, if you are asking me about shipping or condition or if local pick up
is available and choose not to share your email address with me, you may not
get a reply, because I'm likely answering it from my phone or email.
However, if you get a "how much is the 2x3 bricks", then you could answer without
revealing the info.

| I would agree to not having messages go to an email address. As a seller I get
my customers coming to me with concerns via email replying thru the BL message
that was sent to their email inbox. There are two problems with this. One It
takes me quite some time to figure out what order it pertains to and the second
is it doesn't send me a red flag like BL messages. I may not see it or
it will go to my spam box or I don't even check my email daily like I do
on BL. So I'm in agreeance to not even having things sent to a personal email.

| If a conversation started through the order details.
"Hey Seller, I got the order, but it's missing a few pieces", the email is
delivered with the order # in the subject line.
If you reply, that subject line would carry over unless you delete it..

Many times, when they are the one starting the message, they'll just find
out your email and send it directly, with a "Lego order" subject, or something
like that. If you are the one starting the message, then yes, but usually you
aren't the one telling yourself that there were missing parts on an order
you sent.

I haven't been doing this for a decade like some others, so my sample size
is small, but I've literally never had that happen.
Unless a more than transactional conversation evolved out of it, no one has emailed
directly (net new) and not had their order.
(ie, thanks for the Cafe Corner, I thought I'd share a picture of my city
with you)
Now, I've gotten messages from people here that now know my email address
that don't have to do it through bricklink, but it's not about an order.

But then, there are sellers that do quite the opposite. I placed an order on
1001bricks a week ago, and all of their process was done by email. All the communication,
invoice, thanks for paying message, drive thru, everything through e-mail.
What works for one person may not work for the next one.
I do agree on a checkbox to let you choose wether you want your email address
to be shown or not. Whomever chooses no, they'll have the "you can reply
here" link in their messages. That would help people who want it this way, and
people who want the other way.

| No, emails is a free very usefull service that beat anything bricklink can reinvent.
Use all the gadget that comes with your email program and allways setup your
own unique email adresses for sites like this. (especially if your a seller)
so you can drop/replace them whenever you want/need. besides avoiding scams spams
and other harmfull things on the internet is something you probably already learnt
before finding your way to brinklink.
if you haven't then you need to learn because internet is still harmfull
for you and your computer.

I think emails should still exist, but replies go through the system. I posted
this a while ago:
