I don't know if this would be helpful to anyone else, but I would like to be
able to make only part of a lot available. Say I have 1000 of an item and I want
to sell it in increments of 100. I can see the total quantity of the lot and
the quantity that I have made available.
Currently I just use the remarks field to tell me how many I have reserved back.
The reason that I would like to see this feature implemented is that it would
give me a total item count for my inventory, and also a total dollar value for
my inventory. I don't see any way to do this with the current system other than
having mulitple lots and keeping some in the stockroom.

So, it's not that you want to sell in increments of 100 (say), but you want to
make sure it happens in ten separate transactions? IOW, the bulk count feature
is not what you need?

The bulk feature is great for commom parts, but not for parts that are out of
production or are rare for one reason or another.

I guess you would call it tipping your hand.

If you have a high quantity of a rare part you can raise the price slowly as
you sell it out. An alternative would be to use tiered pricing and instead of
going down go up, but I don't think there are any buyers that would favor that
type of selling.

So it's not just "limit: one per customer", you want the quantity to not be shown?

Stockrooms are the tool that would let you do this.
Changing the displayed total seems unlikely.

I do the same, and I also dislike that it throws off my viewable inventory value.

Voted yes.

Isn't that exactly what a stockroom is for?

I use stockroom A for this purpose. That leaves B & C free for transitional
stuff. My stockroom A has 'held back' items like you describe plus all the retained
sold out stuff. It's easy to filter out zero or non-zero quantity items, so
stockroom A is like two stockrooms for the price of one.

When you search your inventory for a part, you'll get two entries returned.
One with 'live' stock one with 'held' stock. From there, it's easy to adjust
quantity and price as you require.

Granted, there's some additional work in the initial listing, but presumably
it'll be special parts only, not your entire inventory, so the effort will be
rewarded by having total control thereafter.
