| If the seller used part out feature to break a set and sell pieces in the store,
and then at one time the inventory got corrected such as wrong color, wrong
type of piece, extra part that don't belong to the set, etc and it's changed
then the seller that parted out the set needs to be notified to check their inventory.
Not all seller, just the ones that parted out set containing error.
One good example: 1x1 cone without groove hasn't been made in a while and LEGO
doesn't have them in many colors anymore so newer sets are likely to have only
cone with groove. But if the inventory submitter doesn't notice the difference,
typed in wrong part #, or only went with the instruction book rather than actual
set on hand, the error can crop up. Another example, and this came up in the
forum someone had ghost inventory of green 2x2 tiles caused by error in submission,
and the seller never knew it was removed from the set.
This would save the seller future headaches when they sell the part only to find
they don't have the right part. Also helps cut down on ghost inventory caused
by miscounted pieces.
Take for example, when it was discovered that green 2x2 tiles don't exist in
the game set and was removed from the invetory listing, the sellers who parted
out the set can be informed to check their inventory and edit as needed.

I vote "sorta".
What I would prefer to see is an opt-in for each set, "Notify me if the inventory
for this set changes".

Vote: nothing (it would cause to many e-mails)
I just informed every seller (second person to do that) of dark bluish gray door
the part doesn't exist:
http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=637869
Sellers should READ what is on top of every part-out screen...

| This has been brought up before and it has been denied by Admin, yes, too many
emails. Maybe the new website will be able to handle this type of feature.
Maybe add a link on your "MyBrickLink" page that sets you parted out have changed,
kinda like the "You have items in your inventory that are marked for deletion".

Looks like this is getting shot down.
A suggestion that I would like to make is for some sort of notification to be
implemented for when part numbers get changed. For instance, if you have a BB##
part listed and the number is changed, your inventory will change but you aren't
informed so you can change your organization.

Maybe a feature under My Activity that would show a list of all the sets parted,
and colored icons next to each set that represent what kind of changes were made
to that set. If say a red icon stood for a major change, one could scroll down
the page looking for the sets that were displaying a red icon. There are many
sellers who do not distinguish between part variation, so an email or notification
for every minor change could get quite annoying.

Yeah this imperfection of bl catalog always be there, so when parting out I visually
check all parts. That way only possible error is related to alternate parts,
which bl handles pretty well.

Well, alternate parts are not always included in an inventory, or may be added
after one parts a set out. Also, I've had situations where an entirely new variation
was identified and added to the catalog only after parting a set out to my inventory.
So there was nothing to suggest that there was anything incorrect in the inventory.
I still think notifications for sellers (which could be opted in to or out of)
would be useful when inventories change.

Well it requires history of partouts, probably with expiration. Say, 6 months
like orders. With this it would work pretty well I think/

This is what I do: I sort and store the pieces as I go thru the parted-out inventory.
I thought that that is what most others do also. That way, if there are any inventory
errors, they would be caught right then and there.
That way you don't just assume that the inventory is 100% correct. You would
be cross-referencing with it at the same time.
