| Lately, I have listed 1000-2000 new lots in my shop (many of which have already
sold). In the rush and tedium of listing so many new lots one at a time, there
have been a few times where I forgot to select the color of the item I was listing
(or where the color I chose was nullified when I went back to revise the item
before hitting the submit button). I even had a buyer order one such lot from
me. Here is an example of the kind of lots I am talking about:
http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=fosterbengoshi&itemID=19565347
This lot was listed as a test lot where I deliberately did not select a color.
I think BrickLink should not allow parts to be listed for sale if a color is
not selected and that if a color is not selected the system should remind you
to select a color. If the seller deliberately intends to list something without
a color, the system should require that they select "undetermined" or "color
not applicable" as the color. This would be very simple to code (kind of like
the reminder BL now gives you if you forget to list a price or quantity). Having
such a feature in place would help avoid mistakes and useless listings.

| I second this, in so far that I don't see any negative result of its implementation,
and it seems like a reasonable and appropriate edit check.

Good suggestion, Thor. Although, I seem to recall that Foster made this suggestion
a while ago.
But sometimes I get confused.

| Wouldn't this be Colour-Fixing and be frowned upon by anti-trust legislation?

Yes, good idea, I have made this mistake before too.
would be really nice if implemented together with your compulsory decimal point
suggestion.

| I'd probably agree Foster. Or if nothing else - make it easier to locate such
incomplete listings in your inventory.
Currently, it seems like the only way to locate these items are to go to your
own store (like a buyer) and click "(Not Applicable)" in the "by Color:" section.
However, this does NOT work if you have the item in a storeroom or reserved.
The other way to locate these "error / incomplete" listings is to select the
"No Small Image in Color Listed" checkbox in your store inventory and see what
comes up.
Once these "error / incomplete" listings are found - you can click on the "[Edit
More]" and manually change the color.
If the coding to make you "have to" pick a color or "not applicable", then maybe
we can at least get a "checkbox" to search the inventory for "non-color selected"
items. Similar to these:
[ ] Missing My Own Weight
[ ] Missing My Remarks
[ ] Missing My Cost
Maybe have a:
[ ] Missing My Color
(BTW, I had one lot (2x2 tile) that was missing the color.)

I agree. It would be helpful if there were an easier way to find these mistakes.
| (BTW, I had one lot (2x2 tile) that was missing the color.)
|
You are not the only one Mike. There are four other listings for these same tiles
which do not have any color selected. See:
http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=17085&colorID=0
And for 1x1 tiles, 8 sellers listed them without a color:
http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=9081&colorID=0
Some quick digging will uncover quite a few of these listings. BrickLink even
has a color code for no color - color ID 0.

I have made that mistake many times and almost all of them sold before I had
a chance to correct them.

Except all 1677 stickers are supposed to be listed that way. Though personally
I would like to have colors assigned to them. White or trans-clear depending
the sticker film.
