I know it was to phish my seller info as often as the pattern was repeated exactly.
But even messages we reply to can do this as the system still lonks our email
to those. It really should not do this unless an order is placed, or even confirmed
as paid by the system (instant or seller marked). Simply put, contact info should
remain better protected until a transaction is deemed legit. BL is largely an
open book for all seller info if the party wanting to phish it knows how the
site works.

Is there any need at all for buyers/sellers to see each other's email contact
info even on legitimate orders? Maybe I've been using instant checkout and
the pay now button for so long I have forgotton, but it has been a while since
a buyer has made a payment directly to my email address. Since BrickLink implemented
sales tax collection, all (at least all of my) payments are negotiated through
PayPal Marketplace.

Maybe other payment methods require an email address.

I know some people send photos via email (if only we could attach photos to a
BL message!).

I'd be perfectly happy to have "public-facing email address" be an
option that I can enable/disable at will.

Indeed, there is very little reason it needs to be shared at all. eBay and Amazon
(and other sites too) never share seller address with a buyer, and especially
not their emails. Email addresses can be handy at times (pics, custom instruction
files, etc.), but should be a voluntary thing to give, not granted without our
active consent to each case. It is a BIG security issue (and one I've brought
up to support numerous times) and what leads to all the recent spam and phishing.
If such non-imperative info was hidden, there would be no way to harvest it
for these attacks, baring an actual database hack. Sadly it all seems to fall
on def ears with the community suffering the consequences.

Respond to the NSS with proof of refund, that should clear it.

You should be able to update the payment status of the order and then cancel
it - you don't need the buyer to do that. But don't do that until the
NSS is resolved.

Thanks for that, I responded to it, until I get an email from an admin, or have
an email to send proof of refund, I won't and probably can't share proof,
but it is shown in the order.
Hopefully it all gets resolved soon and the customer is happy.

As the other response said, the trick is to refund, set payment status backward
to “not yet paid” and order to “ready” or earlier. Once this is done you can
do the OCR process to clear it out and then show as CANCELLED.

But also as advised, communicate and ask the buyer cancel the NSS so you can
cancel it for them, or follow the steps to get support to review and remove before
you do the OCR (if even possible while in NSS state).

There seem to be 4 sides here.

1. Buyers who DON’T care about the carefully documented LEGO sets, parts and
their history.
2. Buyers who DO care about the carefully documented LEGO sets, parts and their
history.
3. Sellers who DON’T care about the carefully documented LEGO sets, parts and
their history.
4. Sellers who DO care about the carefully documented LEGO sets, parts and their
history.

(Need I also mention lack of care for the community, including the founder, Daniel
Jezek, that have done an unfathomably time-consuming labor of love to log it
all and even bring us to this point in LEGO history?)

Clearly I show my colors here as one in the 4th group via this post, but it’s
the honest truth. We care or we don’t care. And honestly that’s okay. We’re
different, and we all need to be…like LEGO parts, it’s what makes the world unique.
But…

When we don’t allow for “variance” (pun intended) we destroy creativity forcing
all bricks to fit “one mold” (pun also intended). Since when do we celebrate
a new release of a tub of Classic bricks over the latest AFOL inspired design?
It’s insanity to even consider it as a user of this site.

But more to the original point I ask…
When has a non-variant caring buyer annoyed or troubled a seller when they were
shipped random variants of parts? Never.
When has a non-variant caring seller annoyed or troubled a buyer when they shipped
them random variants of parts? Quite often actually.
(And clearly likeminded seller/buyer combos don’t have these issues either.)

So we see three of the above categories are acceptable and have no harm caused
in their action/viewpoint, but one is not acceptable really. That’s #3. As a
seller you provide a SERVICE, it’s not the buyer who should serve you and just
be expected to be happy with whatever you send them. So when you post to say
these changes are good from a seller standpoint, you undermine the very thing
you (hopefully) strive to be…a reliable seller of the brick.

Granted variants can be hard, but nothing worth having comes easy. It’s why selling
LEGO is not cut out for everyone. Removing the option to differentiate though
(and truthfully that’s is what the changes do…even if a seller can add a comment,
as it is NOT sortable in wanted lists, auto-shop, etc. still…) and disallowing
us variant caring seller to list the variants in an actual entry of the catalog
defining these regularly buyer-requested variants, is in reality serving no one
but yourself. (As the above points clarify.)

In my option to post in support of these changes as a seller is an utterly selfish
and telling aspect of seller integrity and intent behind being a seller here
at all. Pure and simple profit. Profit is good, don’t get me wrong. And yes,
this site allows selling as PART of its services. But far beyond the selling
aspect it is most notable for its unparalleled catalog documenting LEGO history,
piece by piece. It’s BECAUSE of this that we can then sell these documented morsels
of history one-by-one. So how can any AFOL (or in some cases ASOLFP…Adult Seller
of LEGO for Profits) stand in favor of deleting the communities hard work and
these valuably document aspects of the data and history of the evolution of the
LEGO brick…just to make selling a few parts easier? It’s absolute insanity!

Never in history has the mantra “provide inferior service, make happier buyers!”
worked as a business model. So in reality the one being pushed here is “prove
inferior service, sell more, and care less about the result or buyer.” This
change isn’t about happier buyers, or “easier” shopping. It’s about sales at
the cost of quality. Again, who does this benefit? And is that really what this
site or you as a seller are all about? I surely hope not.

If as a seller you can’t take the time to sort variants and be of service to
this community of avid AFOLs who are also buyers, you should probably just find
a real job. Don’t vote to take away the “rights” of the rest of us for your “ease
of use” making a buck. You lose many of us as buyers thinking you’re making life
and profits easier on yourself when you say this. It only makes it harder for
us all to remove options like this. I mean imagine shopping Macy’s and not being
allowed to pick shirt styles anymore. I’m sure that will make posting product
easier…and sales better.

And for all you dedicated and LEGO history loving buyers, go ahead and bookmark
our store A *Deal* 4 U. We’ll list the variants as much as possible, as
we’ve done since day one (over 18 years ago), where you can shop the true history
of the Lego brick as your convenience.

With great fervor,
Waltzking

(End rant)

Thanks for any tips where to look.

BDP instructions for Round 1, Round 2, and Round 3 are right here:

https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/past/bdp-2021.page

Thanks, I did discover that just now.

I would think it highly beneficial to link to the instructions from the catalog
entry pages as a note on each kit though. Since all but the initial backers
buying the kit will never see that page, most all moving forward would expect
to find it linked in the set catalog entry or on LEGO.com. As is it is extremely
hard to find. I only did since I knew where the set originated from on the other
pages of the site.

in the account, and if they don't pay it off their account gets locked
It's really not a big deal

So money grows on trees now? And "negative" money is possible and irrelevant?
Maybe PayPal tries, but they cannot always recover funds, and thus negative
balances are funds scammers are earning. Negative though has to be balanced
by positive elsewhere, which in these cases means our fees all go up to cover
the negative.

It is indeed a huge deal and why PayPal fees continuously go up due to careless
actions, often by buyers who really know better but do not care as they "chase
a deal" and have a promise of no risk to do so. If PayPal did not offer
"protection" buyers would smarten up, and scammers would die down due
to lack of such purchasing stupidity now running rampant, a place where common
sense used to prevail (or we'd at least learn the hard way). The crazy thing
is these "purchase protected" systems actually promote scams (and why
they continue to grow not end), and always at the cost of the wise since the
careless people get bailed out.

Case and point, BrickLink does not itself offer the protection and charges a
mere 3% in fees....and thrives on it! And interestingly we have WAY LESS scamming
here then other sites. eBay, Amazon, etc, all charge far far more so they can
thrive, 10-15% typically, and it most all is due to scam/protection being built
in. And scams there run rampant. Scammers use them since they know stupid actions
are "protected" so they have best odds to get sales that are clear scams.
In the end, just like mandated insurance, the responsible end up paying for
the irresponsible.

It's easy to miss the cause and affect in our isolated bubbles, but those
of us paying fees, and not being careless to fall for scams too, do have a right
to be upset and call out those on the opposite spectrum costing all of us extra
money. People simply need to take more personal responsibility as it in turn
protects their fellow buyer/seller. Mandated "protection" is never really
protection for everyone, but simply the most careless.

Anyone noticing the trend of phishing orders placed just to take your email and
registered address these last few years, but especially last few months? In
almost all cases I am seeing either new accounts with no feedback, or even
older ones with no feedback place high-value orders (typically from the UK or
AU) and then immediately file OCR. Like what buyer knows how to do that (except
one with more than one account) on this relatively dinosaur-knowledge-needed
site? And if they know that, then why did they order at all and not ask for
a quote first or wait for an invoice?

It can only mean one thing...phishing. And the level of spam I've been getting
when I never got any before, and typically upticks the day of these bogus orders,
proves this has to be why.

I feel it is high tile that LEGO takes on responsibility to protect us sellers.
They own the sight, and any leak of our info is ON THEM! It is breach of trust.
The community needs to step up our voice to demand action from LEGO/Bricklink
to protect sellers.

It really is quite simple. Order pages have ZERO need of seller address
of email to be shown.

Why is this field not removed like all other responsible and notable marketplaces?
Amazon, eBay, Facebook, etc. all protect their sellers info...as they should.
Yes, BL should know it all on the back-end, but not bogus buyers (or even legit
ones for that matter). There is no reason this needs to be shown with the exception
of a seller allowing and accepting a return.

Anyway, be on the lookout for this user: Elice271

BRICKLINK AND LEGO NEED TO DO THIS!

if certain countries are known to cause issues it may be best to spend the time
to set up instant checkout for those countries so they would have to pay upfront
and cant cancel the order.

Tried and it doesn't work, as regardless they'll just use another account/country
or make many accounts over time to just wait it out until the account is older
than the 100 minimum to then phish sellers. It's not only those countries
though (and who knows where they originate really), but just that they are more
commonly used.

But the heart of the matter is the lack of protection by a company like BrickLink
and parent company LEGO, despite months and many notices it is an issue. Correct
action needs to be taken by them to fix their failure, which as a first step
is as simple ad editing a few blocks of code, not me try to limit their breach
of trust.
