I don't know if Bricklink actually picks a shipping method for you. I've
been selling new and used sets for a while, and I would advise that you don't
do instant check out. Have the buyer place the order, then figure out shipping
cost, because it will depend on where it's being sent. Then you can send
the invoice with your shipping cost. You can put a note in your terms saying
you'll figure out the best shipping method between a/b/c. It's a bit
longer of a process but I think it's worth it. Also, for used sets, I've
found a lot of folks don't care about the box, which makes shipping cheaper
and easier. If you put a note on your listings saying there's an option to
exclude the box (for used sets only, of course), you'd be surprised by how
many ppl don't really care about the box.

I have found that pirate ship is a pretty good way of figuring out the best method,
providing you have a scale and know the size of the package.

In Selling, Davidpkaiser2 writes:
  Hello,
Total novice here.
I’m a new seller and I have lots of new and complete used sets available for
sale.
Some of them are very heavy like the UCS Razor Crest.
I’ve got USPS Ground Advantage as my first shipping option. At the Post Office
they told me that is all I can use (other than priority)
Then I have UPS Ground as my second shipping option.
I set it up that way because I think UPS Ground is more affordable than USPS
Ground Advantage once you reach a certain weight so UPS is better for those heavier
sets.
Assuming I’m correct (and there’s certainly the chance I’m not), will Bricklink
choose the shipping option that is the least expensive per the weight of the
set?
What is the best way to get accurate shipping costs in advance of a sale?
Thanks.

They are to display those gold figures that are found in other sets

Just finished the Hogwarts Icons build and I can not figure what to do with the

The only moment I saw them was on the picture at the end of the book (the picture,

just sitting there.
On every video or picture I found other than that one, it doesn't appear.
It has an axle coming out, so it must go somewhere, I assume.

Am I being blind on that one? Anyone knows?
Thanks

It's weird - the only emails I get from BL are from when a message within
bricklink is already started. Like if I send someone a message and they respond,
I get a notification email. Otherwise, I don't get notifications that I
have orders, or that they were paid, or when someone sends a message for the
first time within BL. I don't get copies of messages I send, nor do I get
the copy of the invoices that I send. I just have to log into bricklink a few
times a day as suggested here by others.

I do not have my store setup with instant checkout, so that I can charge the exact price
of shipping. Each order is invoiced separately after I figure that out. If
that sounds like to much, you can try to bake the shipping cost into the cost
of the set, and just offer free shipping, which might make things a bit easier.
Personally, I have a scale. When I get an order (or request for quote), I'm
able to weight/measure everything out and use pirateship for the shipping labels
and postage. It gives you UPS and USPS options.

I dont know about adding the price into it, but could I use something that is
"actual shipping cost added" and then let the UPS store deal with the
packing and shipping? Sorry if this sounds stupid

I've never tried this, but I imagine it would be significantly more expensive
to have UPS do packing and shipping.

I guess one alternative to selling this way is to find a buyer for all of it.
Although, I don't know that you'd make as much. It would certainly
save you time and energy.

It is an option, but I know that selling in one lump would probably mean a pretty
big loss. I guess I am trying to stretch it as much as I can

If you're trying to stretch it, I would suggest not listing the sets at the
lowest price. Even at an average price, the sets will sell (if in good condition).
It may just take a little longer.

I'm very sorry to hear what you and your husband are going through.

I sell mostly boxed sets. As far as setting up the shipping, it's difficult
because one size definitely does not fit all. The shipping cost for a particular
size/weight is different depending on where you're shipping to. I do not
have my store setup with instant checkout, so that I can charge the exact price
of shipping. Each order is invoiced separately after I figure that out. If
that sounds like to much, you can try to bake the shipping cost into the cost
of the set, and just offer free shipping, which might make things a bit easier.
Personally, I have a scale. When I get an order (or request for quote), I'm

As far as packaging materials. You say you don't want to stock up, but if
you've been collecting that long, your collection must be huge, and if you're
going to list a bunch of sets for low prices, you're going to need a bunch
of boxes. Reuse old amazon boxes/etc. where you can, but I think you would need
to get a bunch of different sized boxes to accommodate your different orders.
Bubble wrap, packing tape, shipping labels, printer ink, a scale. If you have
a very valuable set, selling just that one would give you the funds to stock
up on this stuff.

Also, one thing to keep in mind, if you're turning a profit, the government
wants their piece.
Paypal will send a tax form if you exceed 600 in sales. You'll owe federal
taxes on any profit. You may want to reach out to a tax person to figure out
what records you'll need to keep.

I guess one alternative to selling this way is to find a buyer for all of it.
Although, I don't know that you'd make as much. It would certainly
save you time and energy.

Good luck.

Hi..Thank you in advance for the help. I am asking this for a few reasons..
I am not saying this to gain sympathy.. just want to explain why my head cannot
absorb the complexity of looking up all this info myself.

My husband is losing his battle with cancer. But we are still hopeful and fighting
it.

We are also losing out financially becuase of it all, so I am wanting to sell
my LEGO collection. I have been collecting for almost 50 years and have a huge
amount that are in the box. Some are actually pretty valuable at this point.
I never thought I would sell them (that certainly wasnt my intent) but it honestly
means nothing to me now. I just want to be able to suport my husband and try
to get through this.

That said.. I have been uploading the boxed sets (slowly) to my closed store
and trying to find the cheapest US price and then beating it by a small margin.
my goal.. to sell as many as I can but still be able to have a good amount of
funds

OK.. that out of the way.. I have no problem with the stocking of the store but
I am scratchin my head for how to state my shipping terms and what would be best..
Like I said.. all the ones I am uploading are still in the box and some are UCS
and quite large.

How do I offer the best shipping options and make it easy on myself as well..AND
protecting myself from scams etc.

I am based in Washington state (US)
I have a UPS store I can walk to
Post office within a few miles of house
I dont have a ton of packing materials nor do I want to stock up on them.
I really dont have the energy to put a ton of effort into this.. I can barely
keep my head afloat as it is.

How would you lovely people that are pros at this set up a boxed set only store??

I had a similar scenario from my own collection. I listed a bunch of flattened
boxes and have been surprised that they do sell. I mean, not super quickly,
but they have been selling slowly.

The way I ship them - I use a regular shipping box, but unbuilt. I kind of slide
the LEGO box into the unbuilt shipping box, it becomes a big flat package. Then
I tape around the edges of the box. I also put paper around the edges of the
LEGO box so that it doesn't stick to the tape. I've been able to reuse
a bunch of amazon boxes this way. It's kind of a lot of effort, and I think
it's really only worth it if you're getting $10 or more for the box.
Otherwise, between the cost of the shipping box and fees (BL and PP), you're
not really going to break even or find the profit is worth the effort.

These are exclusive sets for Blue Oceans Publishing's LEGO Star Wars magazines.
The sets should have a number on them, e.g. 912055, where 20 is the year of issue

I have the same issue but it extends to all emails generated by bl. Invoices,
but also order and payment notifications and messages. Sometimes I'll randomly
get one of those emails but 99% of the time I get nothing.
And it's not going to my spam folder either

In Technical Issues, Lego2play writes:
We regularly experience issues with messages/mail sent through Bricklink. The
most common issue is that delivery of our copy of a message (eg an invoice) is
delayed. This delay can be an hour or so, but occassionally also half a day or
more. Sometimes we receive all of the delayed messages at once after many hours
and it also occurs that we receive duplicate messages.

Is there a known issue with the Bricklink mail server?
If not, what could be the cause of these issues?

BTW: we use outlook office365 and it doesn't seem to be an inbound issue
(like spam filtering). All of that is checked already.

Kind regards,

The average sale price in the last 6 months is around 600. That's for a
sealed set I'd assume with the box in good condition. I'd expect someone
willing to pay 600 for it would want that nice box too. I don't expect you'd
get that much for a set with a damaged box, but I think you'd be able to
sell it for more than 325, although I'm not sure how much more, or how long
it would take to sell.

Now if you were to part it out, apparently you could make over 600, but it would
be more transactions/time/energy, etc,

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogPOV.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=75053&itemSeq=1&itemQty=1&breakType=M&itemCondition=N&incInstr=Y&incParts=Y

Just my 2 cents.

I found this question thought provoking and would like to share an example of
holding a sealed set and selling it later. Of course, this all depends on how
long you're planning on keeping them before selling, but here's an example
to think about.

SW set purchased 14 years ago for $25
sold it this month (sealed) for $42

$17 profit right?

well - bricklink fee and paypal fees add up to 3.72, so the profit becomes 13.28

But what about taxes? The goverment here would treat this as capital gains and
tax it at 28% (I believe). So that's another 3.72 taken away, leaving an
actual profit of 9.56.

9.56 - for something i held on to for 14 years, keeping it in amazingly
new condition.

Would that original 25 i had 14 years ago be worth more now if i had put it in
a low cost index fund? something to consider... I mean it would have been a
lot less work/time/space

In Off Topic, ImperialFleet writes:

Maybe a new setting I don't know about?

Thanks!!
