Sorry to be the only voice of dissent so far, but I am going to have to vote
"no" for this one, and it's not just because I haven't yet contributed
anything to the catalog.

I think as a business idea, it is terrible. Simply put: why pay people for a
volunteer service? It may slash some turnaround time, but it adds a slew of
other problems, including cuts to BL's bottom line.

But more important than that, I think even the suggestion alone might be detrimental
to the current system. Already we have some replies about past contributors
looking for rewards--as in, immediate rewards for years of work. Once the
seed is planted that this work should not be done for free, you will have people
lining up waiting for a payout.

Furthermore, once you begin a rewards system, it will be VERY difficult in the
future if the need came to shut it down (BL hitting hard times), to revert to
the volunteer system. The idea will already be entrenched that this work should
not be done for free, and I suspect very little will get done after, or it will
take a long time for the volunteerism to resurface.

Of course you may get those users like myself, who will be happy to weigh out
a set here and there to earn some rewards, when I was not so interested before
(but a HUGE thank you to the current volunteers! Your work is extremely helpful).
But, like others mentioned, I'm sure the tasks will get snatched up very
quickly.

I would also not be so interested in accepting "points" as payment, because my
fees aren't too high to begin with, being a small store. Points for free
sets, though? That I like.

As this is still a community build and moderated site, all efforts by members
to improve the site, listings, behaviour of members etc, should result in a discount
on fees to be paid.

Bricklink should have a program that rewards members who:
- catalog contributions
- image improvements
- price guide corrections
- listings corrections
- adding help files/video's/translations
- .....

At this day, only BAD behaviour is santioned (NSS, NPB's, site and forum
bans etc....). Let us not emphasize the negative behaviour but reward the positive
behaviour.

I like the suggestion I read in the previous related thread about only including
a store's feedback *as a seller* in that total calculation. The member can
still have their overall feedback (somewhere) but at the top, center of the store's
page maybe this percentage feedback is explicitly for this store's sales
only.

This makes it harder to pad your feedback with a bunch of small buys (but of
course it's no problem if you're doing that to build a general air of
trustworthiness around your name as some sellers refuse to sell to zero-feedback
members).

It has been brought up too many times, the need for a new feedback format that
will eliminate a lot of seller scams that occur on BL. The new format should
appear as the example (the example does not match actual feedback or any registered
member):

Seller - 100 (90.0%)

This would show that Seller has 100 feedback, and 90% of it is positive. The
other 10%, or 10 feedback, would be neutrals or negatives, and it would be an
overall percentage based off of both buying and selling.

I'm open to Constructive criticism or other ideas, but I think this would
greatly improve the overall performance and quality of the site.

I agree that buyers learn a lot from reading an open forum. It's nice as
a buyer to see that sellers have everyday problems and advice, and most of them
are seeking advice because they're striving to give customers the best experience
possible. Reading this forum helped me decide to start selling. Also, I agree
with whoever said earlier that it looks like the sellers have something to hide
with a sellers - only forum. Like we're discussing the latest trends in
scamming or something. As a buyer i wouldn't want to be excluded from an
otherwise public part of the site. I had buyer only status not long ago so I
remember well. Then again, I read the forum much less as a buyer than I do
as a seller.

To all of you Bircklinkers out there...
And especially the administrators and frequent forum posters.

Bricklink is a wonderful place where we all can enjoy our very different passions
of LEGO. We all enjoy being here, otherwise we would be some where else....

The bricklink community is very committed, and has very strong opinions about
the site that they helped to build and populate.

Times are changing, also in Bricklink, and imho its necessary, to keep BL in
the lead. For everybody's benefit.

The new owners hopefully understand that the users of BL are a very powerful
tool, that put in use the right way can be of great benefit for the site.

But my concern right now is that the very long and passionate forum treads are
harming the reputation of the site, scaring away newcomers.

The debate in the forum are necessary and understandable. But imho they are mostly
for admins and sellers, and not a benefit for the common buyer.

So this is my proposal:
Lets have a closed forum for sellers and admins, where the details of the BL
maschine room can be debated. And a forum for everybody where we can discuss
the joy of lego, help newbies and so on.

Regards Jes

(I'm not so old here, but i really enjoy being here, Its like being at a
family dinner, uncle Maxx as always talking about 3001's, uncle Thor lecturing
about decent and civilised behaviour, Mama Admin is trying to make everybody
feel at home, and behave, and so on (-: one big family..)

Register as seller, close store or leave it empty. Boom, free membership. This
don't work.

I didn't want to make a secret club, I wanted to create a place for sellers
to discuss seller related matters. If a buyer wants to know what selling is all
about, he can open a account and read the forum, no problem. But i really don't
thing the average buyer would be interested, he just wants his precious bricks....
Jes

I believe that it benefits people to be exposed to more than what may immediately
be of interest. As a small seller, I have appreciated and benefited from the
perspective that large sellers bring to how business should be conducted. Even
if a buyer has no intent of selling, he could benefit from being exposed to the
seller's perspectives. I prefer keeping a low (no) barrier to entry for
that exposure.
