Now, we talk a lot about 'scam stores' here and by making suggestions
we try to help by offering 'options' to look at by the site, but I have
another question for you Foster:
What would need to be the reaction from the site, if a buyer turns out to be
a scammer or if there are repeated cases of NSS or Paypal claims against sellers
by a buyer? These kind of situations do exist, yet are hardly being talked about...

This is certainly another problem that should be addressed by BrickLink. I think
BL already has tools in place to deal with most of these problem buyers. If a
buyer does not pay*, the NPB system can take care of that. If the buyer files
multiple bogus NSS claims, BL has the authority to ban the buyer. As for bogus
PayPal claims or multiple chargebacks, I already made suggestions to deal with
that:

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=475780

and

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=817702

For buyers who make duplicate accounts, I made these suggestions:

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=523696

and

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=522617

Some more good suggestions made by other members to deal with problem buyers
include:

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=482235

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=932387

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=916643

Thor

* NPBs do not necessarily mean the buyer is a scammer. But there have been a
few occasions where people have submitted multiple bogus orders for the sole
purpose of causing problems. The one I remmember had his buying privileges suspended
long before any NPBs were completed against him.SEE PEOPLE the TRUTH came out and the true colors the guy has cancelled all the comments someone sent by this user fosterbengoshi???? Now I see really WHO the SCAMMERS are on this site and bricklink and all the inside help will be shut down sooner than later. If all you can talk about is scammers your one yourself no getting around it!!

Actually, the posts were most likely cancelled due to the slur used in reference
to another member. Also, with these posts under this other account, you are pretty
much confirming the reason your other store name was called out - multiple previous
accounts that have been suspended for preventive action. If you were a legitimate
store, you would comply with what Admin is asking for on all of your other stores,
instead of just continuing to open up new ones once another is shut down.

I'm starting to think what others have suggested about value limits until
a certain amount of time AND feedback is reached may be the best way.

This suggestion is not meant to take the place of other measures to combat scams.
It is not an either/or proposition. It is going to take a combination of several
measures to make a significant reduction in scammers. No one suggestion will
work on its own. And no one suggestion will be foolproof. But combine this suggestion
with one or more of the other suggestions that have been made, and I think we
can kiss goodbye at least 90% of the scammers.

Thor

hello, I have never posted on this forum before, but I buy a lot of lego here.
I am a little ashamed to admit,72chipjava got me for a few hundred dollars. as
soon as I found out he was a scammer, apparently well after most on this forum
knew, I felt obligated to do something, besides get my money back. I left him
- feedback stating that he was a scammer and purchased all his remaining minifigures,
to help stop another innocent buyer get robbed. very surprised to see I was the
only one to do so. I received 5 emails from people asking me what my problem
was with the seller. people do read the feedback. if the administration cant
or wont shut them down, its up to the bricklink community to do so. its kind
of just sitting back and letting it happen, which is bs.
on a lighter note, here was mr scumbags response to me when I bought the remainder
of his figures. I thought it was a little funny

Hi Mark, thank for the big order our club & the kids are so happy you can help
us out. After church this morning the kiddos are going to pack your order !
Again thank you so much from canyon lake Lego club. Jennifer,Shelly ,Ryan and
the rest of us.In Problem, fosterbengoshi writes:

I have an idea I want to pitch. Ok a single vigilante is frowned upon, as Thor
pointed out that is too much power for one person to have. But how about as
a group?

What do people think about voting on scammer stores to have their inventory bought
out. Say someone spots a suspicious store like 72chipjava and proposes that we
vote on buying his inventory out. If we get mostly yes votes totaling over 10
or so then we act on it and buy his inventory so no one gets screwed out of their
money.

I think this is a horrible idea. Instead of one vigilante you want a gang of
vigilantes? If it is wrong for one vigilante to do this why is it OK for ten
vigilantes to do this?

I don't like this sort of mob mentality. I have seen innocent people wrongly
accused by mobs here in the forum and elsewhere.

IT IS NOT OUR JOB TO BE SELF-APPOINTED POLICEMEN SHUTTING DOWN STORES MERELY
BECAUSE WE THINK THEY ARE SUSPICIOUS. THAT IS BRICKLINK'S JOB. Our job is
to report suspected wrongdoing. It is then up to BrickLink to take action IF
THEY FEEL ACTION IS WARRANTED. BrickLink has more information than we do. We
should also keep encouraging BrickLink to take more proactive members.

I know it is frustrating that BL often appears slow to act. But did you ever
think that rather than being slow to act BL already reviewed the store in question
and found nothing to warrant closure? BL does not announce the results of these
reviews. So how do we know BL did not already check out the store in question?
Don't automatically assume BL is not acting and that you can therefore act
on your own.

Thor fosterbengoshi u little [...] surfer boy you are having all your buddy's on bricklink buy my items to damage our account so your the SCAMMER HERE punk.. Everyone listen here I have 10 orders who every buyer has just showed me that this clown and all his buddy's are the SCAMMERS!!! See there so worried about new buyers than why in the hell you opening up so many different accounts and buying items from me and leaving bad feedback???? Everyone email me I have the list of names of all these clowns !! See if you want to stop the scammers you have to stop yourself before it will stop that's the way it works . See being a scammer and a follower it's a chain reaction. I have 100% PROOF you people are the SCAMMERS I will be plastering it all over the web !! If you people would use your damn heads and worry about yourself and not others you might do much better???? See if you no how scammers work you must be one yourself proven fact.

It sounds like the buyer initially wanted items you had for sale. If you were
to show the buyer you were able to fill their order, maybe you can still have
a sale. Also, the previous posters can be shown that you are legitimate and this
stops, instead of just responding like you have so far.

Could a new store not be " limited " to use PayPal as the only accepted medium
for payment?.

I was thinking about that, but how could that be enforced?

Shaun

Fairly simply -- only allow that option to be added (Paypal On Site payments)
for new sellers.

--
Marc.

True...but couldn't a scammer just put something in his store terms saying,
"I also accept cash, money orders, Western Union..."? And oh gee, PayPal doesn't
seem to be working, how about this payment method...?

I do like the idea if it could be enforced.

Except that Paypal *will* be working. When a store has On-Site Paypal as the
payment type, there is automatically a "Pay" link in several places. They buyer
just needs to click that, and they are paying by Paypal.

1. Thor was speaking AGAINST that sort of activity

2. That was in a different thread, and there is no need to post the same exact
response this many times
