So it's been quite a while now since the bolt out of the blue announcement
that Lego had acquired this site. I remember at first there was quite a lot of
concern that they would ruin the site, or at least have an overall negative impact.
However I haven't really noticed any difference so far (perhaps a bit more
downtime from the server?).

Just wondering what other people's thoughts are now that they've had
control of the site for a while. Better, worse, about the same?

I would guess that LEGO has done very little that has directly affected the site
up to this point except:

Non-LEGO items have been removed.
Some language and terms have been updated.
The sales tax/brexit/vat issues were met head on, but I don't know if LEGO
was the impetus for this.
Our volunteer admin are now called Experts.
A few surveys have come and gone...

Did I miss anything?

Lots of people are assuming the LEGO is now in direct control, but I haven't
seen any evidence that this is the case. Help Desk is still slow. Bugs still
aren't fixed. Transparency is actually getting worse. Shrug.

Oh, thanks and you're welcome everyone. Your kind words are making me feel
warm and fuzzy.

I forgot to ask if anyone has these in hand:

Parts: Wheel, Tire & Tread

Part No: 35578 Name: Tire 37 x 14

and could confirm the presence of a molded part number?

Hello all,

I have updated my Common Tire Sorting Guide:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mfflmbrgrwq660d/LEGO%20Common%20Tire%20Sorting%20Guide%202021.pdf?dl=0

It's meant to help you sort out all those pesky tires quickly and accurately.
Remember to be sure that you print it out actual size if you want to be able
to just line your parts up with the images on the page.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements or notice any
errors that need fixing! If the dropbox download isn't working for you, just
send me a message to get a direct copy.

Take care,
Jen

Properly, in English grammar, when there is a countable noun, we do not use the
quantitative adjective "less". That's flat-out wrong. We must say "fewer".

We can say "less milk," but not "less cookies." We must say "fewer cookies."

So here, English grammar demands that we say "Fewer Filters."

I do think that correcting this error will enhance the site's professionalism.

You are correct about the grammar. However, “less” is very commonly used this
way in the United States. Much more commonly than “fewer”. There is a fuzzy
line between poor grammar and a language evolving. They’re/there/their is clearly
on one side of the line for me, as an example, but less/fewer doesn’t bother
me.

I like this point of view!

My kid loved the Weird Al Word Crimes video when he was little. It's been
playing in my head since this thread started yesterday...

I have a mad buyer because he ordered 87568pb02L and 47566 was stamped on the
piece. According to him: 47566pb02L has a light gray print and 87568pb02L has
a white print.

Part No: 87568pb02L Name: Arm Mechanical, General Grievous with White Pattern on Left
*
87568pb02L Arm Mechanical, General Grievous with White Pattern on Left
Parts: Minifigure, Body Part

He himself said he knows that bricklink has 47566pb02L as an alternate item number
to 87568pb02L but also says that I listed on the wrong listing. I got that piece
from a new set and know I listed it correctly.

So is there actually a difference in print between the two? If so, there should
be a note on the listing (like 2345p01)

Part No: 2345p01 Name: Panel 3 x 3 x 6 Corner Wall with Black Lines Pattern
*
2345p01 Panel 3 x 3 x 6 Corner Wall with Black Lines Pattern
Parts: Panel, Decorated

or separated listings (like what happened
to 92747pb01).

Part No: 92747pb01 Name: Minifigure, Shield Elliptical with SW Gungan Patrol Shield Pattern (Undetermined Type)
*
92747pb01 Minifigure, Shield Elliptical with SW Gungan Patrol Shield Pattern (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Minifigure, Shield
Marked for Deletion

The buyer is having a very hard time understanding that I didn't
make a mistake. He's saying it's my responsibility to make sure I list
items correctly, which I did.

I am not sure about the differences, but since BL only has one entry for all
versions, it's up to the buyer to inquire if the seller has the exact variation
they wish to buy. They placed an order for 87568pb02L and you don't have
a crystal ball. ( I assume so, anyway.) I looked quickly and didn't see other
sellers listing this part with a note about the number or print color.

We need our resident Star Wars minifig expert! I only have the older version
so I can't help with the comparison.

Good luck with your buyer... hope they listen to reason.

What is your BrickLink rule of thumb to organizing inventory and pulling orders?

Condition / Category / Size / Color

I pull orders alphabetically by Item Name since that mostly aligns with Categories.

I've heard that sorting by parts not color is a good one. Another is cutting/taping
your own boxes to save on shipping.

This takes a lot of time. If I sold a lot of sets, it might be worth it, but
I mostly sell parts and ship small orders.

And a lot of pros and cons to setting a minimum price/lots.

You need a minimum unless you are just trying to raise your feedback. Otherwise,
you will be losing money on itty bitty orders. Buyers hate lot limits. Don't
use them unless you have to.

My sub-query would be; are there any slow sellers that you
leave in the odd parts bin, or push to the end of the queue (of listing parts)?

Wheels, Tires, Wedges, Windscreens. Hate 'em.

Lastly, is BrickStock worth it or is Rebrickable a nice alternative?

Never tried either one. Shrug.

Thanks,
cycbuild

Good luck!

Alas, you are correct, but BL is not so great with the grammar thing. You
should see the Seller Message Template Settings page if you want to correct something
terrible.

I will say in their defense that not everyone who works there is a native English

It's sso hard to get thingss corrected on this ssite.

Sometimes I don’t understand why we should feel the need to go to such lengths
to edit Legos official renders or even Legos official colour names as in doing
so we just seem to create further problems for ourselves?

Honestly, we are going to these lengths because we think we are actually solving
a problem. Most of our renders are now fairly good, some of them are still bad.

If these official Lego renders were used as White, LBG, DBG and Black I would
soon become accustomed enough to be able to tell the difference regardless of
whether I’m able to see them side by side or not...

And then we have new sellers getting them all mixed up while they are 'becoming
accustomed'? And new buyers ordering the wrong thing?

**The best solution is to have the most renders possible with the best color
accuracy.**

Anyone can contribute and fix the remaining problems with this issue. I should
mention that fixing some of the colors like Tan and Dark Tan are a bit more challenging
to get right than others. Most of the bad examples in the OP were actually some
of my early attempts that need to get brought up to randyf's standard.

I will set aside some time today to contribute some better versions.

Take care,

If it was done this way all the parts in your examples would look correct and

Honestly I think these renders are not good - the shading is so heavy that tan,
for example, looks much darker than it ought

But a lot of this comes down to simple display settings for instance on my PC
LCD they currently look perfect whereas on my Laptop they look a little too dark
but something easily adjustable for those that are bothered by it. Either way
at least all those example Lego images are uniform in colour/shading and that's
the important thing as the OP's examples show tan in different colours altogether?
besides if they're good enough for Legos official site I don't see any
reason why they shouldn't be good enough to use on Bricklink?

Here is where we agree to disagree. I don't how LEGO using them makes
them good enough for our uses. They are not pulling parts using their images.
The accuracy means nothing to them. They use different images in their instructions
booklets and on printed material.

I think their renders are only clear if you have another render to compare them
to. At a glance, the White look LBG, the LBG look DBG, and the DBG look Black.
The Trans images are all terrible. The Yellow all look... well not Yellow.

Would you really go pull a White part from just seeing this render? randyf's
images are WAY closer to the truth.

No, we went from 2D line-drawn renders to a mixture of LEGO and BrickLink's
3D renders.

LEGO's are better than BL's but their colors are still bad. The old renders
were awesome for color accuracy but apparently off-putting to people who thought
them old-fashioned.

Photos would be great, but to really work, they would all need to be consistent
and continuously updated. No magic button that I know of to make this problem

wherever possible expecially when it comes to generic bricks but it would take
a lot of time to expect community volunteers to go through and update them all.
Personally I think this needs to be done by an allocated Lego employee that also
deals with the images on their own site

If it was done this way all the parts in your examples would look correct and
as below for both Tan and Dark Tan respectively:-

The LEGO renders ARE the problem. They are so badly lit that some colors are
very poorly represented. Members like randyf took it upon themselves to adjust
each file manually to make the images actually resemble our colors. This is totally
worth it in my opinion. I can also adjust renders but I am not as good as he
is at it. If anyone ever wants an existing render to be improved, just drop me
a message and I will try and fix it.

This is a problem that can be fixed with a bit of effort and skill. I have not
seen a perfect set of renders out there for us to use, so this is what we have.
Trying to make the best of it!

It also shows what goes with the item ie windows etc

It briefly appears as the screen loads but then disappears, is there a setting

I don't know about the seller in question. It's certainly possible that
the parts where listed without full knowledge of their origin. That being said...

Fake replica stickers are bad. The closer to the original, the worse they are
for the hobby as a whole. This also applies to fake parts that are close to the
originals, even in colors that don't exist yet. I recall a member that created
tree leaves in colors that did not exist at the time. Now that some of these
colors actually exist, how certain is anyone going to be that any of them are
real or fake. This is not likely to end well .

Darren

Just FYI, I had some of those leaves and the differences were noticeable. (plastic
feel, no LEGO logo)

I agree though, that it's more problematic when someone is deliberately copying
an existing part. I once called out a vendor at a major LEGO convention who was
openly selling 'replica' capes. I have no problem with people making
up their own ideas to use on or with LEGO products, but copying is just plagiarism.
Use a different type of fabric. Cut it in a different shape, whatever. (But capes
cost too much! Real LEGO parts are expensive and that's not fair! So, we
feel justified making these. We are providing a service. Yeah, yeah, it's
just an excuse to try and make money dude.)

Quite different !

Since it falsification of lego parts I should I proceed.

You should inform the BL office and get this seller shut down. No one likes a

Hi everyone, I hope you're having a good start to the week.
I've spent the past three days parting out the ninjago city gardens set into
my inventory. When I pressed verify items it took so long to verify that bricklink
timed out, meaning that the parts weren't added to my inventory and all of
the data I had entered (my remarks, prices, quantities etc) were deleted. As
you can imagine, for a set with 5574 parts, losing all of my remarks is a real
pain.
Now whenever I try to upload the set again I have the exact same problem. Is
there a way I can solve this?
Also does anyone have any advice for parting out big sets? I know that some people
use third party websites, but I've never had a problem before when parting
out a set so I've never looked into those.
Any help is much appreciated, Stan.

I am wondering if perhaps the Inventory Note on these problem sets needs to move
to the Catalog Detail page.

"Due to the massive number of lines in this inventory (1000+), the BrickLink
system may time out during the partout process. If this happens, you may wish
to part out the set in two different halves."

There are too many similar Forum questions to indicate that sellers are finding
this information.

Also, how jealous am I at everyone parting this set out! What a project that
must be.

You can add the part yourself here:

and then the image here:

Then, the admins will review and approve it. Do you have a good image? I can
answer any questions if you run into problems.

Seems disingenuous, your expression of concern. He’s a big boy, that I don’t
believe was without compensation.

I appreciate Robert and his efforts as much as any others here, and before most:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1178543

He’s quit the catalog team before though: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1178543

He’s also gone to the extent of quitting BL altogether, unregistering vowing
publicly never to return: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1123830

Only to be reinstated by that evil BL office (admin) you seem incessant in denigrating.

-popsicle

Ouch! You got me there: I harbor no good feelings toward the BL office. However,
I do generally admire your positivity and wish I had more of it. I used to look
on the better side of things and now I don't.

There's too many things that could be better if they chose to make them better.
This rankles me. I do try to be supportive and kind when I see genuine effort.
I help newbies, I support our admin, I contribute. So, I am incessant in wanting
things to be better. You're right. 'Denigrating' implies that I am
lashing out without cause. Is that fair?

I don't feel good about what happened. I think we are worse off. If I came
across as disingenuous, that was not my intent.
Take care,
Jen

  BrickLink,
Russell,

Can you please share the reason of his departure?

Kind regards, Jan.

I very much doubt we are going to get one. The BrickLink office's lack of
transparency is well-documented. Personally, I think it stinks.

The catalog didn't use to be this way. I was an admin for three years. We
were members and leaders and accountable to the community. For years now, when
you ask an admin for an explanation for a decision, you get one. Robert made
the system even better with published goals, definitions, plans, and community
discussion. Every move the BL office makes to move the catalog more toward them
and away from us is bad news. They are not accountable to us, have practically
no customer service, and have very little LEGO expertise among them. They didn't
build this catalog but they did buy it. So, there we are.

I've noticed for months that our admins, who have traditionally been some
of the most vocal people here on the Forum, are now largely silent. I doubt this
is a coincidence. I wouldn't speak for them, but I will speak for me. Whatever
the reason, the admins that work so hard and support our community have my respect
and support. I think we can all see from the XP site what our catalog would look
like without them.

  Good day everyone.
I've often wondered how new set inventories are added to bricklink?
This set has been out for three weeks.
I understand that new parts need a designation.
For example parts 10283stk01 and 10283stk02 for the sticker sheets.
Can any user create the "official" inventory?
I'm eager to get this set listed so I can order duplicate sticker sheets.

Any member may contribute to our catalog. There's lots of rules and guidelines

complicated at first, but don't let that stop you!

No one's working on it.

  Can I help completing it?

If you have a brand new copy to use for inventorying the set.

I bought a copy of the set ~2 months ago. As its my only Lego set, it would
be quite easy to figure out which parts belong to the set. Are there instructions
available what I need to do to add the partlist?

I am not 100% sure of the rules regarding having a new set in hand for an inventory.
An inventory admin will have to confirm. However, if you want to give it a go:

Start at the Add or Change page.

Choose: Add Inventory - Set

Enter your set number and Reserve Set (This gives you 3 days to start the inventory.)

Navigate back to this page and now Choose: Manual Add, enter your set number
and enter 1 in the Number of Entries

This will bring you to the Add Inventory page. A pop-up will come up asking if
you want to use the known data for the inventory. Click OK.

The fields will auto-populate with the generic LEGO data for the set. Read everything
there and then come back here with all your questions!

Forum members are usually happy to help new submitters.

To me it almost looks like a Dark Gray. Is there a reason for that? because most
of the other plate images are consistent in color.

That is what the standard LBG render from LEGO looks like. Almost all of the
other ones have been updated by myself over the years to look more like the actual
color. I guess I never came across this one in a set that I had to update it.
I will add it to my list of parts to get to.

Thank you for this, btw! You create the best and most consistant color renders.

It's easy to make your own guide: find a decorated part that only comes in
one color and use that for direct comparison. There are too many variants in
printing and monitors to trust any other method.

The only thing that would incentivize IC to me is for it to be designed to actually
function with the USPS system.

Stet (IOW, full agreement, no argument)

Does everyone just charge for the highest zone
or aim for somewhere in the middle?

I keep a spreadsheet with all my sales on it. I note which zone, the weight,
and the class of service. That is tabulated into something that gives me a more
clear picture of what zone are ordering which weights. From that, I can distribute
the USPS zone costs into a rate for each weight band. Some buyers are going to
be charged more, some less, but at the end of the year I should be pretty close
the correct average. Zone 8 is getting a slight advantage, and zones 3-6 are
paying a bit more. While it would be nice for BL to get the zones to be fully
functional, I know that some buyers (i.e. everyone in zone 8) is going wince
when they see the rate they need to pay (for break even). Typically tho, if any
buyer is presented with a rate, and they know there are no more hidden or handling
charges, they buy in and go with it.

Thanks for sharing this info. I do see that there is a small trade-off between
exact cost and convenience at check out.

In the past 6 months, I've only had one buyer wanting free shipping … and
they were buying for resale on Amazon. So they were trying to make their cost
of acquisition lower, and at my expense. I politely declined.

I guess what I am saying is I just don't trust
it to work, and I am basically prohibited from testing it in my own shop. The
interface is confusing, the packing dimensions are incomplete...I guess many
sellers are adapting to it despite all this?

What some sellers are doing, is opening a second account for testing. As long
as you do not create any real orders (i.e. with an order number assigned) it's
not hurting anything.

Yeah, I wouldn't be comfortable doing this. My rep and feedback here mean
a lot to me. (former Admin, contributor, store owner) so I will wait until it's
written in the terms.

If you have any specific questions about getting IC up and running, send me a
Contact.

Nita Rae

That's very kind of you! I appreciate it.

The only thing that would incentivize IC to me is for it to be designed to actually
function with the USPS system. Does everyone just charge for the highest zone
or aim for somewhere in the middle? I realize that there is only a $.30 - .60
difference for First Class mail at the moment. But, to me, it just feels like
another bug-prone mishmash system BL threw together, didn't finish properly,
and doesn't maintain. I guess what I am saying is I just don't trust
it to work, and I am basically prohibited from testing it in my own shop. The

Make a search with a list of bricks possible.
If you have a list of brick codes, it would be very helpful to find the store
that owns the entire list or has the largest number of them.
Thanks for your attention.

You are looking for a Wanted List. It's already here on BrickLink. Start
with the little heart 'Want' on the top menu. Or, type in your code in
the search, navigate to the catalog item page and click 'Add to My Wanted
List'

Jen

BTW, I wish we had a different icon and indicator for this on the top menu. I
just don't see how a heart and the word Want conveys to new users that necessary
shopping methods are hidden there. Does anyone have a better idea?

The problem is that we (BrickLink) cannot pay those taxes unless the seller chooses
to use an onsite payment method. We cannot force sellers to make this choice,
so it is up to these sellers to open themselves up to the larger market.

This is why some other members in this thread are advising you to contact sellers
you wish to buy from and kindly ask if they would adopt an onsite method. It
is not a lengthy process - it takes just a few minutes for those who already
have an account.

What Bricklink could do is inform all sellers that since mid last year they need
an onsite payment option to sell to (almost all) US buyers.
And inform them that in case of an error when trying to send an invoice they
have to check there template.
The Brexit mail was good although nothing was really said in it, but for the
US tax changes nothing has been communicated, while given all kinds of forum
posts a lot of sellers don't know about it.

Yes, I think there is overwhelming evidence that many sellers did not receive
the message from BrickLink regarding how the sales tax deployment directly affected
their stores. Despite all the problems and like 900 Forum posts about it, BrickLink
prefers to do nothing to solve this problem. The broken template thing was also
a bug they never addressed. Typical.

online retail listing standards. At this point, you're almost better off
browsing elsewhere (Amazon, eBay, etc), then coming here to plug in the item
number. Keep us here.

Actually, I think that browsing is much more efficient with the small thumbnails
as long as the images are good enough. Larger images would only mean a lot more
scrolling. Different users have different needs! I hope any updates or changes
would acknowledge both needs.

Well, you will be fine as long as you offer an onsite payment method. Paypal
can be used onsite and offsite. I don't believe that you can offer offsite
methods as a new seller anyway.

If you search 'sales tax' here in the Forum, you'll get more info
than you would ever want.

Please stop blocking my access to the parts I need. I am extremely annoyed that
you won't allow me to buy items from so many sellers I need to because they
aren't paying my taxes. They "don't support orders that ship to Massachusetts".
You are literally screwing up my access to rare parts that are only available
on this site. You are hurting part of this hobby for me. STOP IT! I am only
a buyer and not a seller. I understand you must be going through some growing
pains trying to get all the sellers to pay taxes, but don't take it out on
the buyers. Seriously stop blocking my access to the parts I need. Not allowing
me to ship items to my home from sellers who are willing to ship them to me is
a legitimate reason for me to be pissed. You are forcing me to go buy clone
parts off site when I don't really want to as an immediate direct result
of this action.

You are blaming the wrong people for the wrong things. Blame BrickLink for not
doing more to educate their sellers about the recent changes to the site that
directly affected their stores. Sellers received only one communication about
the tax update, and the relevant information was buried in it.

All you need to do is contact any sellers from whom you can't order, inform
them that they need to enable an onsite payment method, and direct them to the
Forum if they have any questions. You will be doing them, yourself, and lots
of fellow BrickLinkers a great service.

Also, many sellers have conflated onsite payments with Instant Checkout and have
resisted changing their stores for this reason. Instant Checkout is confusing
to implement and imperfect, so try to be understanding. Here is a handy chart
you can use if anyone needs convincing.

Good luck,
Jen

I, for one, would like to know how changes brought forward and discussed by the
community, and then reviewed and decided upon by our volunteer admin are somehow
not 'approved' by BrickLink. Is this really what happened?

If BrickLink is, in fact, taking such specific control of the catalog away from
the volunteers, then we need to know about it. BrickLink has only 1 contributor
and no sellers on its entire staff. I don't trust them at all.

Comments from Submitter:
The Inventory currently does not reflect the correct stickers on parts 57906pb* in trans-dark blue and dark blue.

Looking at the instructions each of the 2 parts in the same color gets a different sticker (number 11 and 12 from the sticker sheet.
Which means the set accutally includes 57906pb014 once in dark blue and once in trans-dark blue. The same counts for 57906pb015.

After ordering some parts a while back, I just noticed this mistake while building the set.

The instructions I see have sticker #11 applied to the Dark Blue part on steps
87 and 100.
Sticker #12 is applied to the Trans-Dark Blue part on steps 88 and 99.

I think the catalog admins have been incredibly clear about this entire process.

I have a category based store. I list a lot of used parts so I feel this is the
most efficient way. Yes, changes are disruptive, but I certainly don't have
to close down. Now that the changes are published and scheduled, it's very
manageable.

It takes me a day or two to move the individual parts and print some new bin
labels. It takes a couple weeks for me to remember something got moved as I
am going along pulling orders. The change log is always available on every single
item detail page if I forget.

I think it is pretty great that they have set up a system that accommodates stores
as much as possible while giving the entire community a chance for real input.

I can't seem to add a Match ID to the Extra with this form so please assign Match ID 2 to the Extra. Thanks!

In Suggestions, infinibrix writes:
Just an idea I’m putting out there for future consideration because with colour
abbreviations it can give you useful options for catalog use/navigation!

For starters I glanced at all the different colours and it didn’t appear to be
too difficult to give each colour a suitable 3 Letter abbreviation though it
goes without saying that a few colours may be forced to have a 4 letter abbreviation
but they will likely be just a very few obscure colours such as Very Light Bluish
Grey (VLBG) or Trans Light Bright Green (TLBG) but even if it became problematic
some colours may not even benefit as much from the need to have an abbreviation
compared to the more widely and commonly used colours

Either way here are just a few quick abbreviation examples:-

Black – BLK
White – WHT
Reddish Brown – RBR
Dark Brown – DBR
Light Bluish Grey – LBG
Dark Bluish Grey – DBG
Dark Grey – DGR
Red – RED
Blue – BLU
Dark Blue – DBL
Green – GRN
Olive Green – OGN
Tan – TAN
Dark Tan – DTN
Orange – ORG
Dark Orange – DOR
Yellow – YEL

It’s also worth mentioning that the idea would be to have these abbreviations
on display wherever we see colour descriptions which is pretty much anywhere
in the catalog and so if we had abbreviations like this I don’t think it would
take long for people to memorize them and put them to good use so that instead
of searching for ‘Dark Tan hair’ they can just search ‘DTN hair’ or instead of
‘Light Bluish Gray Helmets’ they can just search ‘LBG Helmets’. The other benefit
is that where space is limited in descriptions a Torso could contain ‘RBR Belt
Buckle’ instead of ‘Reddish Brown Belt Buckle’

However once you have colour abbreviations in places their uses can be extended
in other ways too for instance if they are combined with a minifigure part to
create a unique combined colour/part reference such as Legs-DBR (Dark Brown Legs)
or Torso-GRN (Green Torso) these combos can be exclusively used to narrow down
search results for minifigures in ways where you barely need to worry about trying
to guess or work out what keywords have been used and in some cases you won’t
even need to know the name of the character!

For Example if I start with this Henry Minifigure description in its most basic
form it would look something like this:-

Minifig No: poc036 Name: Henry Turner
*
poc036 (Inv) Henry Turner
Minifigures: Pirates of the Caribbean
Henry - Torso-RBR, Hair-DTN, Head-LNO, Legs-OGN

Granted it’s not the most visually pleasing of minifig descriptions and right
now you’re probably thinking it looks a confusing mess but translated it basically
reads ‘Reddish Brown Torso, Dark Tan Hair, Light Nougat Head and Olive Green
Legs

Now even before I add keywords to that description or even if it already had
keywords and I wasn’t sure what keywords to try? If I had that minifig in my
hand and I didn’t know the name of the character I will at least still be reassured
that with a simple search for some or all of those main minifig part colours
it will either bring up what I’m looking for or narrow it down considerably.

For example if I search for say both ‘Hair-DTN Legs-OGN’ that Henry minifig will
be the only minifigure match that comes up because it’s the only minifigure in
the catalog that currently includes both Dark Tan hair and Olive Green Legs.
Now even if I search for both ‘Hair-DTN Head-LNO’ I’m sure I will still only
get a very small page of matches and that’s before I’ve even attempted to narrow
down with character names Like Luke or Han or the colour/description of the torsos/legs
etc etc...

Essentially if minifigure descriptions were laid out in a format something like
this:-

Minifig Character/Type (*) - Torso/Arms-COLOUR (*), Hair/Headgear-COLOUR(*),
Head-COLOUR (*), Legs/Hips-COLOUR (*), (*Other Keywords)

where the (*) represents where keywords can be added for each core minifigure
component (as/when necessary) it would then mean a revised and more detailed
example of the Henry Minifigure might look something like this even though the
description may not need to be quite as detailed for helping to find this particular
minifig:-

Henry - Torso-RBR, Arms-WHT (Brown Waistcoat, White Tunic), Hair-DTN (Swept Back
Ponytail), Head-LNO (DS, Open Mouth Smile/Worried), Legs-OGN

Its worth mentioning that the ‘DS’ after head represents Double Sided Head (SS
= Single Sided) which would allow you to narrow down even further with just a
couple of extra letters added within search criteria

However one thing to also notice is that you can still search for specific colours
such as the ‘White’ print details found on legs or torsos such as the white tunic
without needing to worry about it bringing up core components in white as they
will only come up if you search ‘Arms-WHT’, Legs-WHT, Torso-WHT, Head-WHT, Hair-WHT
whereas searching for white alone would mean the colour can be set aside for
prints allowing you to be more specific with your overall minifig search results...

Here are a few more examples of how similar minifigs might look:-

Minifig No: sw0278 Name: Han Solo, Reddish Brown Legs without Holster Pattern
*
sw0278 (Inv) Han Solo, Reddish Brown Legs without Holster Pattern
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6
Han Solo - Torso-WHT (Shirt), Hair-RBR, Head-LNO (SS, Smirk), Legs-RBR

Minifig No: sw0823 Name: Han Solo, Dark Brown Legs, Wavy Hair
*
sw0823 (Inv) Han Solo, Dark Brown Legs, Wavy Hair
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6
Han Solo - Torso-WHT (Shirt), Hair-RBR (Wavy), Head-LNO (DS, Closed Eyes), Legs-DBR

Minifig No: sw0841 Name: Han Solo, Old
*
sw0841 (Inv) Han Solo, Old
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 7
Han Solo (Senior) - Torso-DBR (Jacket), Hair-LBG, Head-LNO (DS, Angry), Legs-BLK
(Printed Gunbelt)

Minifig No: sw0343 Name: Han Solo, Tan Legs with Holster Pattern, Parka Hood with Tan Fur
*
sw0343 (Inv) Han Solo, Tan Legs with Holster Pattern, Parka Hood with Tan Fur
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6
Han Solo (Hoth) - Torso-DBL (Jacket), Headgear-DBL (Parka Hood), Head-LNO (SS,
Smirk), Hips-DBL, Legs-TAN (Printed Gunbelt)

Minifig No: cas115 Name: Crusader Lion - Blue Legs with Black Hips, Dark Gray Neck-Protector
*
cas115 (Inv) Crusader Lion - Blue Legs with Black Hips, Dark Gray Neck-Protector
Minifigures: Castle: Crusaders
Knight (Crusader Lion) - Torso-Red, Arms-BLU, Headgear-DGR (Neck Protector Helmet),
Head-YEL (SS), Hips-BLK, Legs-BLU

I appreciate in might not be to everyone’s liking but it does for the most part
seem to work and I’m pretty sure I could even use it to tackle all those samey
spider-man minifigs without having to worry too much about relying on vague (Web
Pattern) keywords and focusing more on the definitive colours of Torsos, legs,
hips, arms and definitive styles such as printed/legs arms etc…

But again just some ideas for another day perhaps?

The only abbreviations I have ever tried to use for colors are LBG and DBG and
then only when pressed for character space. Abbreviations are often difficult
to read and add to visual clutter. I am not sure why the entire minifig's
inventory would need to be listed in its name when that information is already
searchable? Sorry, I am very not onboard with this suggestion. I did a search
for 'spider-man' limited to minifigs and got 24 results. I can clearly
see all of them on one page of thumbnails and can quickly scan for the differences.
That's good enough for me!

Please move the time for the daily maintenance (and any other site updates) to
a time when BrickLink staff are available to troubleshoot and fix problems.

Since BrickLink is global, having the site down for a few minutes will always
inconvenience someone. As your tech support is not 24/7, it makes sense to make
changes to the site when someone is around to fix problems.

It would show us all that you are serious about addressing the issues around
here and that international sellers shouldn't have to bear the brunt of unexpected
errors.

We have not been told that submenus for parts will happen. We have merely requested
them.

You got my hopes up for a moment. I hope whoever is in charge of that listens,
because submenus will be really helpful

If anyone is listening, they sure have a strange way of showing it.

My guess is that any comments that actually reach eyes or ears at the BrickLink
office are getting these responses:

I don't care
That's not important enough to be fixed
The problem won't exist in XP so why fix it in Classic
I don't have time to fix that
I could really break something important if I tried to fix that
This only causes problems for sellers/admin, so why bother
People complained about this in a rude manner, so I am going to ignore the issue
to teach them a lesson...

All in my imagination of course, but this is just my perpetual frustration
speaking up.

This has been bugging me for a while. Many years ago the color of the rendering
images was changed. Ever since, I have had trouble telling the difference between
some color images. I know others complained about it also. Because of this,
I make mistakes when pulling the right color parts.

I have no trouble telling the difference between any colors of real bricks or
any of the photo images. It is only the part renderings. Maybe if enough people
can't tell either, we can get it changed to something that is easier to see.

So, who can tell the difference between these two images? One is white and one
is LBG. They are screen shots of rendered parts without any editing. What say
you?

Donna

The images from LEGO are very poorly rendered with way too much light and shadow
which leads to color confusion. Our old thumbnail images had much more color
clarity but couldn't be enlarged, so what we have now is just a decent compromise.
Since the site changed to using renders, members like randyf have spent countless
hours manually adjusting each image to visually match a color.

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogMembers.asp?viewAll=I

The White items are particularly bad. I am happy to help fix any items that still
have bad part renders that are bothering you. Just send me a message with the
number and color and I will upload a color-corrected image to replace the one
we have. I really don't mind helping so don't be shy!

I will fix the White slope from your example.

How about we rename Light Bluish Gray to Light Grey, and retain the "A" for the
older color:

Light Gray (1970s through 2003)
Light Grey (2004 though the present)

That would be hilarious! And terrible.

We could call retired colors 'colours' too. It would be a theme.

For consistency, retired colours would need to be 'colors' if American
spellings are used for the retired greys.

The only Greys on BrickLink are Gandalf and Phoenix.

Don't forget Fenrir Greyback.

Oh, I missed that one! Should remember to use the * when I search.

It could happen if someone reserves the inventory and then does not submit it

In rare cases, an inventory admin may delete a pending inventory because the
submitter cannot complete it or they don't have the set in hand. (This is
required now for newer sets.)

By your own way you mean in proper English english?

Yes! For certain, I read a lot more books by English authors than any other.
I have no idea where else my preference may have originated. So, I blame Miss

Yeah, all the time spent planning the change, then a few moments as you say,
and then hours of volunteer work making about 2000 necessary corrections in the
catalog. This stuff doesn't happen like Thanos snapping his fingers.

Was'nt it yourself that initially requested the change from Flesh to Nougat
though yet your saying to leave the colours alone?

Yes, my request was one that finally helped instigate the change, but I was very
far from the first to suggest it. I was also one of those who donated time so
the change seemed effortless. Many people cared about it going well and spent
even more time than me.

There is a big difference between the need for that color name change and what
is being suggested here.

I had no problem with the BrickLink color names when I was a newbie because I
started here first. LEGO names all sound weird and long-winded to me. I know
I can google a chart to cross-reference the colors because I learned it as a
newbie when I wanted to start contributing to the catalog.

I am not trying to stir up bad feelings or cause trouble, but the reality
is that if we change our names to suit some users, we are causing problems for

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and sorry if my previous message came across
as abrupt. Long day...

Jen

My 2 cents: leave the colors alone. Our color names are not without flaws but
are better than LEGO's and if I need to cross-reference them, I can google
a color chart in no time at all. Why is this so complicated??

Jen

It won't be complicated for those like yourself that are familiar with BL
and all the reference sites but I want every newbie customers to have zero doubt
about what they are purchasing from my store unless that is too much to ask?

are better than LEGO's and if I need to cross-reference them, I can google
a color chart in no time at all. Why is this so complicated??

I had a question from a buyer regarding instructions of CMF’s.

He bought some from a different seller but due to our nice communication (I guess)
he asked me why the numbering of his series 13 didn’t make sense, he also missed
some and had some double.

If I am correct these leaflets are always the same unless you mark the empty
circle by yourself.
But maybe I need to be educated myself in this case...

The packages are marked with a barcode in the earlier series, later with dots/dents/pimples.

So if I am wrong I would like to know and I can give the information to my buyer
too, I will point this forumpost to him to.

Thanks already!
Ton

There were a couple of the collectors series that had a small printed number
on the instructions that was different for each set.

BrickLink did not differentiate between them.

Here's an example online:

https://jaysbrickblog.com/reviews/review-lego-minifigures-series-14-monsters/

See the 16 in the white circle on the upper corner on the back of the instructions.

Can I make a suggestion that we create a new category for parts that are specifically
designed to go over the leg pins/hips and call it ‘Hip Wear’ or ‘Leg Wear’? as
there are plenty of them and probably many more that I have missed?
In my opinion ‘Body Wear’ should be left exclusively for all those parts that
are designed to go over the Torso/Neck piece only?

I have also asked for this in discussions with the other admins. I believe it
will happen.

Yes, this would be great!

Yes, these were described as LEGO. I have since been able to get in touch with
the auctioneer and they are issuing a refund.

Before I send them back, I wanted to document the fakes for reference.

If this is not helpful, no worries. Just hoping to prevent anyone from making
my mistake in future.

Question: How do most people here know these are fakes? Unless you
look carefully for the LEGO logos, which you can't do from most auction pics,
how do you tell fakes from real?

Honestly, the first clue that a part is fake is almost always how it feels when
you pick it up. Looking for the logo and part numbers are usually step 2 so there
is no help there regarding seeing fakes online.

I would guess items on the auction site are fake by how cheap/plentiful they
are. Many Ninjago figures only appeared in one set and are rare. If Pythor didn't
cost upwards of $20, that was the warning sign. Also, there are tons of fake
copies of this guy and the other snakes available so I wouldn't buy unless
the listing specifically claimed it as authentic.

part look exactly the same.

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I would like to post
pictures for awareness and education so others don't run into this issue.

If someone could suggest where a good place (this forum or otherwise) to put
up pictures of these fakes, I would appreciate it.

Here are some examples:

Most people here know there are fakes, and to avoid auctions where items are
not described as LEGO but have words like compatible in.

Were these described as LEGO? If so, complain.

actually have 5 brown ones in stock.

Does this warrant a split or should a note be added?

I've always listed these for sale with a note about the color of the printing.
Do we know that there are only two exact versions, or are there a range of
printing irregularities between the two? Just curious...

I am going to vote against moving any of these bar parts. Just because something

(4083 and 6187 are used more often on vehicles than fences in my opinion.) Moving
6020 and 30095 would separate them from other very similar parts like 62113 which
could also be used a fence or a ladder I guess.

Anyway, these parts are all comprised mostly of bars and should stay put.

Thanks!

The Building is still done at the same angle as the surface they are atteched.

Do you have a suggestion to fix this? Move the parts or modify the definition
for example? It's nice to post a solution with the problem.

PS. These feel very bracket-y to me, so I would support updating the definition
if appropriate.

From a sealed set. Thanks.

I was not aware of this part variant and I have sold mine already. No one else
has verified the set. I would be comfortable just replacing the part in the
inventory, since I have no confidence that it wasn't always the new part.

The thing is that part 2479 is shown on the box and in the instruction manual.
However, my sealed set contain part 67737.

LEGO often does not update their promotional images or instruction images when
they introduce a new part variant. The printed manual is not a valid source for
part variations.

Finally! This part is being moved to its proper place as a liftarm. . . LEGO calls it a liftarm too.

I am genuinely curious: Why do you think that this piece should be classified
as a liftarm? Unlike the other parts in the category, it cannot act as
a liftarm, and LEGO's official classifications are not always the best for
the purposes of the BL Catalog.

I call it a liftarm because the mold is precisely a 1L liftarm. How it behaves
is also relevant, but it acts as a bushing of sorts and can't connect anything.
So, why not call it what it is?

Jen

Fair, Re: mould. If we changed the category name from "Liftarm" to "Beam", I
would have no problem with it being there (I can see it as a 1L Beam).

Yeah, I'm not really a LEGO purist...I started on BrickLink, so all the LEGO
names and colors names just sound weird to me. Changing our name for the category
won't affect its use, so why go against all our historical memory??

I realize that people who started on LEGO think BL names are strange too, so
I understand where you are coming from.

Finally! This part is being moved to its proper place as a liftarm. I've
tried a couple times to move it and it was never agreed upon at the time. It
is not a connector as it only works with one pin. LEGO calls it a liftarm too.

Someone is transferring the Xref of this part to Dark Bluish Gray, yes?

Jen

Yes - I'm pretty sure given all the evidence that it doesn't exist in
Flat Silver so is safe to do so. I'll contact the original submitter and
have some words

Well, I heard that she didn't have the LEGO data available and did her best
to describe the color of a non-ABS part.

They waited a year for you to finish this inventory! Wow, them are some patient

  Hello!

I submitted an inventory for the set 4002018 almost a year ago, and it is still
waiting for approval. Do you have any updated information about the process?
I also provided a scan of the instructions part list.

Thank you!

Szilard

It looks like it needs the minifigs added, minifig parts subtracted, and extras
counted.

Nope! But at least it's got Binoculars in the name for searching. It's
actually used in more minifigs than anything else so far.

Plate, Round. Minifig, Utensil. Minifigure, Body Part. Not an easy placement...

checkout found that. Set ID: Col19-5, Col20-1, Col20-7, Col20-13, Coldis-14,
Coldis2-18, Coldis2-8 and Colsh-2 are all missing the size. First is this way
its stopping the instant checkout on these items? Second is there a way I can
edit this or the weight in my own inventory as I cant seem to find a way to edit
them?

The catalog page shows the size in studs, which is not the same database field
as the packaging size that you need for shipping. It has been on the requested
features list for a long time to have the packaging size listed on this place
too. And with a direct link to the add or change page.

Change is coming...

.
Is this a real minifig? If so, can someone submit an actual picture so we don't
have a weird photoshopped image.

I've added it to the catalog. Hope you don't mind.

I don't think we can use this image here.

What is the source of this image?

A competitor's website. And someone who isn't allowed to post here anymore.

Where did you find the credit for the photo? I am just curious.

You are right, there is no credit information. But it is possible to see who
has uploaded an image while it is in pending status. So there is no doubt about
the source.
And in addition to that, there is only one person on earth who can take so fantastic
images of LEGO parts and figures.

That's right!

  One of the reasons
I don't contribute to that site is that all the catalog and image credit
appears to be hidden.

Guess we have something in common here.

BTW, that other website says: If your submission needs a little explanation,
or there isn't a suitable field for it, leave us a note. By submitting this
form you agree for your submission to be made available under the terms of the
open database license

https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/

The rights granted cover, for example:

a. Extraction and Re-utilisation of the whole or a Substantial part of the Contents;

But then there is the point 4.0 CONDITIONS OF USE that BL may not meet...

Oh, my issue with credit is not with fair use or anything like that. It just
makes the catalog data opaque. We can't see who contributed what and what
region they might be from, trace changes, or acknowledge sources (like who was
reposting my images there) Imagine Wikipedia without any attributions. It's
the same reason I objected so strongly to BrickLink changing user names to BLUSERS.
It anonymizes the data and anonymous data just isn't good.

Jen
