  Dear BrickLink members,

Welcome back and thank you for your patience. We were down for longer than anyone
would have wanted. Now that we’re back up and running, we can share with you
what’s happened.

As many of you will know, we received a threat and ransom demand on Friday, November
3rd. We’d been aware of and actively managing some limited suspicious activity
since mid-October, with unauthorized sellers offering products at huge discounts
and fraudulently accepting payment from buyers.

As soon as we were aware of the potential escalation on November 3rd, we put
the site into maintenance mode out of an abundance of caution. We did this to
protect our members and keep complete control of the platform while investigating.

We found that a relatively small number of BrickLink accounts may have been accessed.
It is important to note that there is no evidence so far that our systems were
compromised.

At this stage we believe this was a ‘credential stuffing’ incident, where
someone obtains lists of usernames and passwords from a third party, often illegally,
and opportunistically tries to use them on a website.

Actions we’ve taken

Although we know that the BrickLink site was not breached, we've further
strengthened our security. We take the safety of BrickLink and our members very
seriously and will continue to step up security across the platform.

We’ve informed people where we have reason to believe that their accounts or
stores may have been impacted, and reminded members of ways they can make their
accounts safer and more secure by practicing good data security. Keep your systems
up-to-date with the latest patches, Use security software and create strong,
unique passwords for each website you use.

Again, we’re sorry for the interruption and inconvenience this has caused you.

If you have any questions or concerns, have a look at the FAQ for more details,
or reach out to customersupport@bricklink.com.

Many thanks,

Your BrickLink Team

Thank you!

  Hi @ all

For our ERP where we create exact invoices, we fetch orders via your API. However,
the information about refunds is not defined in any parameters of the individual
orders. At the same time the order total does not change accordingly to the refund
amount. Is there a fix to this problem and how are others dealing with this issue?

Thanks in advance
Pierre

Manually. I have not find a way to do this through the API, and it happens too
little to invest hours in writing some script.

Not really a problem, we're not testing a part of the name - as you said,
search for "bricks"

I didn't dare to do that search as I know how fragile the bricklink servers
are. A search with 50% of the store names as result might break the spaghetti.

Have had a spurt of these over the last couple of months - IC is not the answer
for us we need another tool or option, perhaps where we can set a minimum feedback
level for a buyers first order - an option of course and that would allow stores
to choose rather than Bricklink.

Happily serving 0 feedback buyers since 2015. Send them my way please. I'll
be happy to give them their very first feedback on Bricklink.

And yes IC is the answer. Instant Checkout removed 100% of non paying buyers.

Probably because it is very similar to

71075 Brick, Round 1 x 1 x 1 2/3

And as a curved version of this:

That's interesting! I wasn't aware of this history.

With that in mind I would say, let the history not define current logic in the
catalog, and I would like to request the Technic piece to move to the Technic,
Connector category. Thanks for considering.

I charge a flat fee of 4.95 independent of package size and weight. Sometimes
I pay less, sometimes it's more. Average is ok. Since a year I also offer
free shipping on orders over 35, people use that quite a bit.

I'm so glad I got rid of the complex tiers, individual weighted pricing,
etc etc. This is just straightforward, easy, everybody knows what they're
getting, and I've had no complaints at all.

  Hi guys,

I've received my first cash back from Stripe and was wondering what your
experiences were with that.
A customer ordered a Star Wars Millenium Falcon UCS with automated check out.
Payment received by stripe. We have some communication back and forth both by
direct mail and Bricklink Mail. He orders also a UCS AT-AT in a second order,
also payment by Stripe.

The orders were correctly delivered last week although he hasn't changed
the delivery status on the Bricklink Order.
Now, today I received a cashback request from his bank for the first order. I'm
alarmed but thinking he might be confused, so I contact him directly. This time
the mail account is closed.

Stripe offers support in how to reply to the cashback in order to convince the
bank that it isn't a fraud. Luckily, I'm well documented. However, the
money will be withdrawn from my account and the bank can take up to 3 months
to review my evidence before deciding.

Of course, I'm aware of scammers on the open marketplaces, but I always thought
this platform was a well protected one. Star Wars UCS sets are not cheap as you
know. I'm wondering what your experiences are with this sort of things and
if Bricklink itself offers any support on this.

Thanks for your comments.

Koen
Koen's Space Port

You lost.

No matter how strong your case is, the credit card institutions will always side
with their client, the user of the credit card. This has nothing to do with Stripe,
but with how the credit card system works.

I've had it twice now, for both I built an extensive case, all evidence of
a correct order was there, name and address matched perfectly. CVC check done,
invoice, shipping documents, delivery status, everything sent. Bank rejected
it on the deadline, no appeal possible.

The biggest issue is that Stripe charges (at least here in the US) 15 or 25 bucks
for every chargeback on top the amount you lost with the chargeback. This means
you lost your parts. You lost your shipping expenses, and you lost another 25
bucks on top. If the margins are thin, you can't have this happen too often.

I was pretty sour the first time, but then looking back, over a 1000 orders through
Stripe, I had 2 charge backs. I think my margin can cover that. It's part
of doing business.

Anyway, sorry for the loss....

Later that day I receive an order form the same buyer: 6 items in 4 lots, totalling
40 cents. Yes, 40 cents.
Buyer selects 'collect locally' for shipping (that is an option I'm
offering).

Set a minimum of 50€ if this is a problem?

I mail back: do you really want to collect the items at my location? Because
he lives 1 hour by car from my location (you know what gasoline / benzine costs
today). No reply, instead he added an item to his order, a 2x2 white round plate
for 4 cents. So this makes the total worth of his order 44 cents!

Yes, but you're losing your time.
Either limit this option, or don't ask any question.
Some are happy to drive for 1 hour to pick 3 parts; they probably need to see
the shop.

I cancelled his order and calculated that he kept me busy for half a day. For
44 cents that never came into my pocket!

Next time you'll get 200€ with almost zero work.
The life a shop is to be counted as an average, never every action separately.

Just like costs.
You lose 100€? Fine if you get 5000€, it's 2% - so you gained 98% it's
far better than 0

BTW: if you want to add this buyer to your stop list, please contact me. Buyer
has a 15 FB rating which I think he doesn't deserve.

Please do this - add restrictions - I'll gladly take more buyers

Averaging - This is one of the reasons I went to flat rate shipping, and I ignore
insurance options alltogether. Every order under 35 dollar is 4.95 usd shipping,
everything over is free shipping. On average it works out perfectly.

I only purhcase insurance on the extreme orders (500,750 etc), everything else
I just ignore. I've had two parcels gone missing over the past 4 years, I
just reshipped the order at my expense. Yes, that did cost me 20-30 bucks, but
over 4 years I saved a lot on not purchasing shipping.

As long as the averages work out, you're good.

‘Windowed enveloppes’ (enveloppes with a clear window) are supposed to be recyclable
here too.  But I think it’s more because the windows are separated from the paper
in some way (like stapples or other bindings).  So maybe that ‘wax’ can be easily
separated too.

But it’s not paper.  And who saw them?  AFAIK they had only be seen in the Employee

On a similar note, does anyone know of a good way to recycle bubble mailers/jiffy
bags? The plastic ones are recyclable in the U.S. but the paper ones are not
because they are lined with plastic bubble wrap. I've tried separating the
paper from the bubble wrap but it is not easy.

All my orders go out in paper mailers, but not lined with plastic bubbles, but
with recycled paper stuff. All fully recyclable. It's slightly more expensive,
but I've only getting positive responses so far.
