8558-1 (Inv) Cahdok & Gahdok
630 Parts, 2002
Sets: BIONICLE: Titans

* Add 4 Part 78c13 Pearl Dark Gray Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 13L (Alternate) (match ID 106621)

Comments from Submitter:
I parted out "8558 Cahdok & Gahdok," and it had four Pearl Dark Gray 78c13 hoses (with 41 ribs) rather than the 78c12 hoses stated on the parts list.

Mine are short of 13L, but closer to 13 than 12. I have always had these hoses
err long rather than short, but it is true that this one is closer to 13 than
12.

For what it is worth, mine from that set are also 41 ribs, but I apparently found
them within the slushy range that gets called 12L. I can't go measure them
at the moment.

Now we have a situation where some set inventories, particularly educational
sets, contain items that would properly be considered original boxes or original
instructions. Because sets boxes have variants (different box sizes, different
printing, etc.) and set instructions have variants (1 or 2 booklets, different
sizes, different languages, etc.) , the ideal solution would be to stop tying
boxes and instructions entries to sets.

However, that would require adding tens of thousands of new catalog entries for
original boxes and set instructions. It would also require rewriting the site
code and working with sellers to get items for sale moved to new catalog entries.
Or, put differently, it's way too much work to undo 20 years later.

There is perhaps a middle road here. Most sets have a box that is consistent
and well covered by the system Dan set up. Dacta sets, at least since mid-90s
do not. There is no original box for these sets. The original box entry could
be taken away from just them.

Hi

I have the innertray from set 8266. (will add it later)
Found this number:
4112766 and there is also 8266/2

What number do you have?
And does it also come with 8440/2?

You are right. I did the incorrect inventory and you can see the difference

found variants during part out, thanks

We were unaware of both of these newer variants when I inventoried the set and
I didn't keep any pieces. I would support just replacing them, as it is
likely they were always the newer ones. If someone finds the old ones we could
always add them back.

I would have said so as well, but I actually found both variants of each part
during the part out process.

Oh.. I mean, yeah, I was totally in control the whole time.

This is the only useful pic I could find among my reference pics. You can't
count them, but you can definitely tell that there are more than 6 each of the
blue and red 3003.

Comments from Submitter:
I have deleted my previous requests on this set and am doing it a different way.

- On the blue and red bricks, this variance is what I have found when I parted out two sets before and again when I parted out 1 yesterday.

- I was missing the trans-red slopes before and again and last time I didn't know what to balance them with, but this time the blue 41855 (and maybe/probably last time as well, I don't know) were in the bag with the regular parts, not the floor sweepings, so I think they alternate each other.

-I will also record here that when I parted out two sets before, I only got 2 yellow 3005pe1, not 4 and this time when I parted out one set I didn't get any of them. I suspect that this piece belongs in the extras, but I have no handy proof. I am making these requests from work and it now occurs to me that I may have pictures of the unopened bags last time that would shed some light on this. I will check later.

Should dual molded legs or arms in their respective assemblies really be considered
as decorated?
To me BL considered the decorated as by means of printing or applying decoration
using stickers.

example

Part No: 970c00pb0970 Name: Hips and Legs with Molded Dark Orange Lower Legs / Boots Pattern
*
970c00pb0970 Hips and Legs with Molded Dark Orange Lower Legs / Boots Pattern
Parts: Minifigure, Legs, Decorated

the reasoning is, how is that any different from legs assembly with single color
legs but different color hips or mismatched leg colors?

Part No: 970d46 Name: Hips and 1 Medium Azure Left Leg, 1 Bright Light Orange Right Leg
*
970d46 (Inv) Hips and 1 Medium Azure Left Leg, 1 Bright Light Orange Right Leg
Parts: Minifigure, Legs

I feel the same way about dual molded arms

Part No: 973c83 Name: Torso Plain / Yellow Arms with Molded Green Short Sleeves Pattern / Yellow Hands
*
973c83 (Inv) Torso Plain / Yellow Arms with Molded Green Short Sleeves Pattern / Yellow Hands
Parts: Minifigure, Torso Assembly, Decor.

There are reasons for not separating them, mainly for new buyers not knowing
or caring about the difference or just the general way of looking at it, but
I feel like there is no real definition for the term decorated that should be
defined. As far I am concerned, dual color molding is not really decorating.

Any thoughts?

Miro

I support the change. Also the pics you posted are lovely.

If we had perfect knowledge, I am sure we would find that other sets had light
gray also. But most of those sets were opened and built and then went to garage
sales and trash cans. The ones that actually get opened and investigated are
a small sample. I have a vintage set on the way that has never been inventoried
before. And plenty of other sets haven't been verified or haven't been
parted out a lot by people who correct inventories.

Manufacturing pieces is one operation and packing sets is another operation and
the people or machines who pack the sets use the parts they have on hand.
It is clear from sets like 9797 and the Star Destroyer that set packers considered
LG and LBG to be the interchangeable until the time came that there were no more
LG parts in the bins. Hygrotus pulled a variant piece from a new set last year
that hadn't been seen in a new set in something like a decade. 32064c should
phase out somewhere around 2005, but Turez found one in a 2008 set. Because
some facility that packs sets still had some.

Frequently when entering PCCs on new pieces, I find something like (I am making
these specific numbers up!) most new PCCs we've been entering for months
are like 6301111 and 6301333 and then a new hair piece comes out with 6271222.
Sets are designed long before they are announced and released and there is no
reason to assume that a piece that didn't get released until 2006 wasn't
produced a few years earlier in some quantities. Some of the Dots elements were
made for Dots and then they decided not to release Dots and some of the pieces
made their way into sets last year. Then they decided to release Dots a year
later. They used those pieces in other sets because they had been manufactured
and were just sitting there. Similarly, LG 56145 may have been produced for
a set that didn't get released and then when they started making the piece
in LBG they used up the LG too. Or maybe when they develop a new part that they
want to start putting in sets, they start manufacturing it in the most obvious
colors, but by the time a designer put it in a set, they had changed over the
LBG, but still had the LG. We really don't know. But I promise you that
I can tell the difference between them and I found what I found. I have not
parted out 20 9797s. But I have parted out 8 of them from 5 different sources.
I have found all 3 heads and both kinds of hats and both kinds of light grays.

I'm sure LEGO won't release the item (56145) in Light Gray color to put
it only in some 9797 sets and not use it anymore. I think LEGO could allow a
marriage in the composition of the plastic and the detail has changed color a
little over time. In the photo, the cap and legs that I took out of one sealed
package from the DACTA set. These details are blue, but the cap has a yellowish
tinge. And such blue details with a yellow tint I have seen in many sets of DACTA
and Educational. In my opinion, this is not a new blue color, it is a marriage
of plastic (I do not sell such parts).

I don't think we should continue the argument. This is a question of the
difference between my experience and yours. I think the bricklink database administrator
already has enough information to make the right decision.

If necessary, I can send a request to LEGO to see if the 9797 set included parts
with the Light Gray color.

A little more information about the configuration of 9797 sets:
Items 41752 and 41753 were included only in the set of 2006, in the future (2009
and 2012) rubbers lay in cardboard boxes.
Part bb0273 could only be included in the 2006 kit along with the x1678 battery.
Part bb0527 could only be included in the 2009 and 2012 set along with the 87662c01
battery.

That hat color is known here as Brittle Blue. You can search that on the forum

  Hi,

I apologize in advance for my English, it is translated by Google.
I bought and sorted 9797 sets a lot, so I have information about 9797 sets.
Lego released 3 versions of the set in 2006, 2009, and 2012. You can distinguish
the set versions by the LEGO copyright information on the boxes and paper sheets.

The first version of the set (2006) had the following differences:
1 version of NXT - Complete Brick
6538b Black Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Ridged with x Hole x Orientation)
4716 Black Technic, Gear Worm Screw, Long
6558 Black Technic, Pin 3L with Friction Ridges Lengthwise
3647 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Gear 8 Tooth
4019 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Gear 16 Tooth (First Version - 4 Round Holes)
32269 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Gear 20 Tooth Double Bevel
3648 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Gear 24 Tooth (2nd Version - 1 Axle Hole)
x1678 Dark Bluish Gray Electric, Rechargeable Battery 7.4V - NXT, AC plug

The second version of the set (2009) had the following differences:
2 version of NXT - Complete Brick
6538c Black Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Smooth with x Hole + Orientation)
4716 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Gear Worm Screw, Long
6558 Blue Technic, Pin 3L with Friction Ridges Lengthwise
3647 Dark Bluish Gray Technic, Gear 8 Tooth
94925 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Gear 16 Tooth (Second Version - Reinforced)
32269 Tan Technic, Gear 20 Tooth Double Bevel
3648 Dark Bluish Gray Technic, Gear 24 Tooth (2nd Version - 1 Axle Hole)
87662c01 Very Light Bluish Gray Electric, Rechargeable Battery 7.4V - NXT, DC
plug
Add 55615 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Pin Connector Perpendicular 3 x 3 Bent with
4 Pins

Third version of the set (2012) had the following differences:
Removed x1676 Black Electric, Converter Cable, Mindstorms NXT 35cm
Removed 6035c01 White Electric, Light Brick 1 x 2 with Single Side Light (6034
/ 6035)

There are errors in inventory 9797, this set did not have details of color "Light
Gray".
I didn't track the differences in the parts of the minifigures.

Best regards
Alexei

I have parted this set out many times. I did find light gray pieces once.

Thanks for your reply.
I think this is a mistake.
Or the parts were replaced with parts with the color Light Gray (in the used
set). Or the parts are yellowed with time (if the set was sealed).
If we look in the Bricklink database for details with the color Light Gray (3023,
3894, 3702, 3703, 56145), then we will see that LEGO did not use this color after
2004. A set of 9797 began production in 2006. The 56145 wheel was not produced
at all in the Light Gray color.

Second, I haven't seen sets where LEGO used "old" and "new" gray parts. Sets
always use parts of the "old" color - Light Gray and Dark Gray, or only parts
of the "new" color - Light Bluish Gray and Dark Bluish Gray.

I think this is a mistake.
Or the parts were replaced with parts with the color Light Gray (in the used
set). Or the parts are yellowed with time (if the set was sealed).

Sealed sets, very nice Light Gray, not yellowy Light Bluish Gray.

If we look in the Bricklink database for details with the color Light Gray (3023,
3894, 3702, 3703, 56145), then we will see that LEGO did not use this color after
2004. A set of 9797 began production in 2006.

And sets routinely come with older variant pieces that were no longer in production
when the set was produced.

The 56145 wheel was not produced
at all in the Light Gray color.

What I am telling you is that they did. I have seen them and I sold them in
January.

Second, I haven't seen sets where LEGO used "old" and "new" gray parts. Sets
always use parts of the "old" color - Light Gray and Dark Gray, or only parts
of the "new" color - Light Bluish Gray and Dark Bluish Gray.

I have seen it several times in Dacta Technic/Mindstorm sets.

Sets: Racers: Williams F1

* Delete 2 Part 78c10 Blue Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 10L
* Change {2 to 4} Part Blue 78c11 Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 11L

Comments from Submitter:
From the manual, there is no blue hose with 10 stud lenght. There is not 2 10L and 2 11L but just 4 11L.

I parted this set out some 16 months ago and have so far been unable to sell
the ribbed hoses. Maybe my price is too high. But I have from this set 2 hoses
that are 32 ribs long and 2 that are 35 ribs long.

If you go through the instuction manual you can see that the purple color is
only for silver hoses and not blue ones. I bought missing parts for this set
and all 10L were too short.

I agree with you. The instructions show that all of the blue hoses designated
by the light blue dot should be the same length. The length definitely looks
like it should be about 11L. Your requests have been accepted.

Cheers,
Randy

Huh? The original inventory had the book and put in what he put in and what
I got out of a sealed set matched what he said. I have definite continuity on
the pieces in question.

This set was revised in 2004 also per attached photo.

Yes, my card has all 3 years. And the inventory card was probably correct in
2004. 20-some pieces are different colors in the 2005 download and in my set,
but it is not the parts from the first version.

Comments from Submitter:
To be honest, the "b" type in this inventory makes me a little nervous. I thought it was phased out last year and I would feel much better if someone could confirm the appearence in this set.

The inventory was completed by Jonathan (axaday), who is *very* good about variants.
Also, our back end admin tools allow us to see variants that have been superseded
by newer entries in pending inventories. This variant would have been tagged
for questioning, so if it made it through the verification process, I would suspect
that it was really found in the set. I can ask Jonathan to verify this, assuming
he still has access to the parts in queston.

Cheers,
Randy

I wish I was always worthy of the praises that I receive, but Turez really did
catch me here. I do still have the mech and it has the 'c' variant that
he says it has. I cannot account for my error.

I am just changing the green 32064, because the current entry is a stealth undetemined piece. The rest should be pretty self explanatory. I have not opened the bags and counted extras, but I have tried to check and photograph variants in bags.

That's not the standard.

Do you have more than 1 example?

The one I inventoried from came from Walmart in the USA and I didn't sell
it to LearnedBrick.

Someone (not my customer) messaged me a few days ago to say that they didn't
get the extra in theirs and I told him that all of mine did, but on further thought
I cannot really say all of mine did. I had a case from the United States and
one from Europe, so I opened and sold several of these. I saw others with extras,
but it did not occur to me to ensure that they all had it and I've sold all
I had except mine that I inventoried from.

The parts on the left are LEGO Light Reddish Violet. The parts on the

Rose is commonly called "Paradisa Pink" and is often sold as "Light Pink" on
BrickLink.

I am not sure if BrickLink's Light Pink actually exist. I suspect many are
misidentified.

I had never noted this difference. I parted out a few Paradisa sets quite a
while back, but I guess none of them had the same pieces as Belville sets I parted
out.

Pics following. When I realized I had trans-aqua here, I worried I had made a mistake before, but circumstances propped me up. I have a sample of the piece in Trans-Light Blue and this is the only set that has it in the inventory, so I definitely had TLB before.

You can see the flowers are Transaqua by comparing them to the clip in one pic.
The other pic is my references of 22a with the bag of pieces I pulled from this
set.

These were the same ones that I bought from you, and I have always questioned
them being listed as Trans-Light Blue. I think they are all supposed to be Trans-Aqua,
but some got a little more dye in the mix than others.

It IS paler than a lot of trans-light blue things I have handy, but it is also
thinner. Very easy to distinguish from other trans-aqua.

Is it thinner than
[p=clikits025a]

I will need to take out my references of those and these flowers.

That question isn't diagnostic, because 25a doesn't come in trans-light
blue. By my reckoning, I have attached a pic of 2 trans-aqua pieces and 2 trans-light
blue pieces.

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 9707 Name: Intelligent House Building Set (Control Lab)
*
9707-1 (Inv) Intelligent House Building Set (Control Lab)
155 Parts, 4 Gear, 1996
Sets: Educational & Dacta: Technic: Control Lab

* Add 1 Part 6538a Light Gray Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Ridged with + Hole + Orientation) (Alternate) (match ID 2)
* Change 1 Part Light Gray 6538b Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Ridged with x Hole x Orientation) {match ID 0 to 2}

Comments from Submitter:
I didn't notice until sorting the set out and my reference pictures didn't notice either. But I actually got the A, which was nice because my 6538 project is really loading my up with Bs.

Comments from Submitter:
- Replacing undetermined blue wire. Mine is 168.

Your comment and the change request do not line up. Which one is correct?

The blue one is 104. The black one is 168, so it is pending.

* Change {5 to 4} Part Light Gray 3713 Technic, Bush
* Change {2 to 1} Part Light Gray 3647 Technic, Gear 8 Tooth
* Change 4 Part Yellow 4624c02 Wheel 8mm D. x 6mm with Black Tire 15mm D. x 6mm Offset Tread Small (4624 / 3641) {Counterpart to Regular}

Comments from Submitter:
- My set was new and banded. I didn't get 69 stud wire and it isn't on the parts list card. I'm saying extra because the original inventory says sealed set.
- My two long wire are 168 studs, not 162. I have submitted it, but cannot make the change until it is approved.
- Replacing undetermined blue wire. Mine is 168.
- My blue bands are definitely x89. I doubt x37 in blue actually exists, but their nearness in size has been a historic confusion.
- The instructions just use 1 each of the bushing and little gear, but the parts card shows 4 bushes. My set has 5 and 2 like the inventory says, so there is an extra of each.
- Attempted to contact member that split up the wheels in a change, but don't have a response yet. They didn't verify the inventory, so I believe it was a procedural change, but my sealed set matches the original sealed set with the wheels assembled.

Proper minifigure has been added to catalog.

If you want my opinion it is not "proper" to obscure his outrageous tiger shirt,
but I am not the king.

The other pic is my references of 22a with the bag of pieces I pulled from this
set.

Comments from Submitter:
I just opened 5843-1 with the pearl very light gray skates and realized the ones I have from this set are also pearl very light gray. I am asking for a switch instead of an alternate because my gut says they don't actually exist in pearl light gray.

* Change {4 to 2} Part Light Gray 4274 Technic, Pin 1/2
* Change {11 to 10} Part Black 6558 Technic, Pin 3L with Friction Ridges Lengthwise

Comments from Submitter:
The 6558 is a little puzzling. You do use 11 if you connect it with 5206. But 5206 has one in its set too. But it is an extra there. So should it be a regular part in this set? All the change requests I have made bring the part count to 4 more than the box says. I don't know what other piece to check. It isn't the 2L Axles.

Did you verify the counts of these extra parts with what you have versus just
subtracting out what was originally in the inventory? We already know something
was screwy with the number of 4265c in the inventory versus what you really got,
so I want to make sure these numbers line up with the true extras that you have.

I have gone through all of the instructions. The other two discrepancies that
I found in the inventory were:

(1) The inventory currently shows 3x red 2412b but only 2x are used in the set.
(2) The inventory currently shows 4x black x138 but only 1x is used in the set.

Can you check the amounts you have of these parts?

The set also definitely only uses 4x light gray 4265c in the main and alternate
builds. So that pending change is incorrect.

The only difference I had in totals was 1 less 4265c in each set than expected.
Inventory said I would have 18, but I only got 16.

So just to be clear then. You had 6x red 2412b across your two sets and 10x black
x138 across your two sets?

Correct on 2412b. That will get us ONE off from part count. But I actually
only got 9 rubber bands. 1 was already being called an extra, so I didn't
say anything about it.

Comments from Submitter:
My previous question was confused because there are instructions to attach this to 5206 and it uses 2 more, but 5206 comes with some of those, so I guess they don't need to be regulars in this set.
