Comments from Submitter:
I have two of the 8209 sets, that both have the "Technic, Shock Absorber 6.5L - Soft Spring, Standard Coils" part in red. I have a "normal" spring part as well and can confirm it's not the normal one but the soft one.

Can you tell the source of these sets. Did you buy these sealed?

Thanks,
Diana

Hi Diana,

No I bought these used. Would be something to find these sealed though 😀. they
come from different sources.

Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 8048 Name: Buggy
*
8048-1 (Inv) Buggy
314 Parts, 2010
Sets: Technic: Model: Off-Road

* Change 4 Part Light Bluish Gray {2850 Technic Engine Cylinder (Undetermined Type) to 2850a Technic Engine Cylinder with Side Slots}

Comments from Submitter:
I have a version with the 2850a part. Since the 2850b part is already an alternate, I thought I would set the change request so that the "undetermined" variant would be replaced.

Set No: 8593 Name: Makuta
*
8593-1 (Inv) Makuta
199 Parts, 2003
Sets: BIONICLE: Titans

* Change 1 Part {Black to Pearl Black} 44815b Bionicle Mask Kraahkan, 4 Hole Chin (Alternate)

Does this Mask exist in both Black and Pearl Black and if you have both, could
you please add an image of those side by side. If you only have the 'Pearl
Black', please add an image with some other Pearl Black parts and some Black
parts, for comparison.

Thanks,
Diana

Per LEGO's customer service inventory, 8953 Makuta Icarax uses 44815 in black,
and 8593 Makuta uses the same piece in pearl black. No difference in design ID.
I don't think there's any reason to assume they would have switched to
black in this set, especially when the noted difference with this alternate has
always been the number of holes. It seems like more of an assumption to assume
the part is not Pearl Black, and a left-over from switching the main part to
PB.

As far as I can see:
- 44815 pearl black only came in set 8593, which was produced 2003-2005 and listed
on Bricklink as 44815a (6-hole chin)
- 44815b (4-hole chin) came in 2005, doesn't have an image in Pearl Black
and not one for sale in Pearl Black

So I really would like to see an image of a Pearl Black 44815b 4-hole chin, before
I can approve this change request. Please let me know if you have the part in
Pearl Black, or if this request is just an assumption.

I don't see any proof that 44815b came in this set at all, but changing color
to Pearl Black, when it doesn't even exist in that color, doesn't make
any sense.

Diana

After some more research, my conclusion is
- there's no evidence 44815b came in Pearl Black (no image, no pcc, no lots
for sale)
- 44815b in black has PCC 4525189 and came in 2008
- set 8593-1 was produced 2003-2004

So I can't approve this request, but 44815b will be removed from the inventory.

Diana

PS
there is a PCC for black 44815a, but there's also a suggestion to move all
to pearl black?:
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=323644

I have 2 makuta's from different bulk Bionicle sources. Both of them have
the 4 hole version of the mask.

The inventory for 8593 Makuta only has the 6 hole version listed as part, which
does not add up to my makuta versions.

I would say this set at least so came with a (alternate?) 4 hole mask, as well
as the 6 hole mask. Do my masks have the pearl black color? I can't really
tell to be honest. The difference in color to other Bionicle parts like 44807
or 43559 is so subtle...

  Hi Nita,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have tried overriding the dimensions on some products
but Customers are still complaining.

Is there any formal way of logging this with BrickLink? This old Bulletin Board
System just seems to be users complaining about the issue?

Hints:

Rule 1: DO NOT enter manual dimensions (and remove the ones you entered).
For those lots, set up a specific method like "Invoice me manually" and calculate
the price yourself, on demand.

Rule 2: For every shipping method you can set up a size margin.
If you don't believe BL sizes are exact, simply add 5 or 10% to the BL size
in the shipping method

HTH?

Sylvain

Hi Sylvain,

I don’t normally enter in manual dimensions as I don’t normally have any issues.
As I mentioned earlier I did put I a few to diagnose and prove the issue.

I have entered in packaging dimensions to allow for padding of envelopes etc
and have since opening my store with no issues.

I really don’t want to invoice orders manually as this obviously causes more
work for me as the seller and more faff for the customer as they have to come
back and pay at a later date.

I was just hoping someone from BrickLink would acknowledge the issue and sort
the problem.

Thanks
Tim

Dimensions on lots are totally legitimate. They were put there for a reason.
If the dimensions are to be removed, BL should notify us of that fact. They have
not done so.

What is missing in all of this is a road map, so that we can understand what
the target is, how we are going to get there, and how to behave during the transition.
That does not currently exist.

USPS zoned shipping is certainly doable, and without API calls to USPS. That
we need more than tinkering with shipping weights/dimensions.

Nita Rae

I've noticed this as well, and I think I have the same issue.

I posted a message in November, that there are inconsistencies in the use of
MM and CM on different pages. ( https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1314467)
Admin Russel replied "We haven’t updated that part yet, but we plan to do so
very soon."

I guess we have a different understanding of "very soon", because it's not
updated yet. I work mainly from the inventory pages, which are all still on MM's.

I saw today that a lot of my dimensions have been changed to a CM value. e.g.
it used to be "35", it was changed to "3.5". I use this a lot for sets. As the
pages are still not updated and use "MM", all sets I posted since december have
been added with a MM value. So today half my store used CM values and half used
MM values.

I'm not sure it the checkout system is now set to MM or CM's. I would
like to fund out soon though! I've put everything back to MM value, so either
it works as it used to, or some sets need a 1,5 meter box . I may need to
ask someone to check it out in my store to verify.

  Hi!

I'm not sure if this is already reported, I could not find it with a quick
search.

I've noticed a small inconsistency in the packing dimensions "flow" of screens
when adding an item to your inventory. I know it's been worked on, but at
the moment in one place the packing dimensions are shown on screen in mm's
instead of cm's.

You can reproduce it like this:

- Add a part to your inventory with the inventory_Add page
- The packing dimensions can be added in CM's, e.g. 20x15x2.7 cm
- On the next verification page inventory_verify, the packing dimensions are
shown with the values you entered, but with MM's behind it: 20x15x2.7 mm.
This is not correct, it should either be 10x10x3 cm as the previous page, or
as 200x150x27 mm as in the following page
- after adding the item to the inventory, when checking the inventory on the
inventory_detail page, the packing dimensions are displayed as 200x150x27 mm's

So Packing dimensions listed in CM's are correctly saved as MM's, so
that works good. Only a small fix needed to the inventory_verify paga, change
one "m" to a "c" to go from "mm" to "cm" and everything checks out. Typical "low
hanging fruit", right?

Thanks for the report. We haven’t updated that part yet, but we plan to do so
very soon.

Thanks for the quick reply! I figured that much, but being part of a software
dev team taught me it's often better to share something than assume something
🙂

Keep up the good work!

Hi Russel,

An update to this message. I saw that somewhere in December all my own dimensions
have been updated from MM to CM value in my intentory. I use custom dimensions
for all sets that don't have a box and for example a "27" value is now listed
as "2.7". I assume some sort of script has run to change all MM values to CM
values?
However, all pages are still not updated, so the dimensions are now displayed
as "2.7 mm". I'm really confused what values should be used. I read complaints
from other sellers that orders are places as parcels because of this issue as
well

For now I've changed everything back to a MM value, as that is how it is
displayed on screen. If it should be centimeters, please let me know so I can
change it back. And pleace update the web-pages accordingly a.s.a.p because it's
just unclear at the moment.

Thanks!

did have stock and showed up fine in my store and inventory. Buying even one
part of the 30 I had available was nog even possible though. I had to remove
the part from my inventory and re-list it, only then could it be purchased.
I used the part-out function to add this part a few days ago, so nothing out
of the ordenary. I did not get any error messages as well.

The main problem is: I can't tell which part(s) cause these problems. Also
Buyers also can't tell (from what I know now).

Has anyone experience these kind of problems before?

I have some new information:
- This error occurs at the last step (4) of the checkout process.
- This error only occurs when ordering from my store directly. placing an order
does work from the "global cart" function on the BL page itself. So at least
that's a good work around.

Yeah, the item was in stock and not in stockroom. The buyer was able to add it
to his cart as well. When I looked it up in my invetory, there was nothing wrong
with it. It had quantity, amount etc, and no stockroom. Really strange.

Are you sure that part was in stock but not marked as stockroom? Bricklink changes
this when someone places an Instant Checkout order but doesn't finalise the
payment. You can quickly know about this because it appears as In Progress in
the top right of the orders received page. The parts for the order are marked
as stockroom temporarily (minutes to hours idk) and then unmarked and being available
again.

*
4695-1 (Inv) Knight Bus - Mini polybag
54 Parts, 2004
Sets: Harry Potter: Mini: Prisoner of Azkaban

* Add 6 Part 3009f2 Trans-Clear Brick 1 x 6 Transparent with Frosted Horizontal Line - Three Sections (Alternate) (match ID 1)
* Change 6 Part Trans-Clear 3009 Brick 1 x 6 {match ID 0 to 1}

Comments from Submitter:
I just picked up a box of used lego bionicle with 2 knight bus sets included in the mix. Both these sets have the 3009f2 Brick 1 x 6 Transparent with Frosted Horizontal Line - Three Sections as part of the set. As this was the only "normal" lego in the box, I'm confident these belong to this set. (also it was partly assembled) I've included this part as altenerate with this change request.

I have noticed that a lot of listings for Kraata either do not have their
own photos or do not list the tail colors.

The page linked below has a great set of thumbnails with all known color
variations and stages of kraata. Would it be possible to add a drop down menu
or a select option so that when shops post Kraata they must choose the image
that most closely matches their piece?

That would eliminate the human error factor when posting Kraata and allow
people to more accurately choose what they want to buy based on coloration.

I just got a big bag of Kraata's yesterday, with lots of color variations.
I've been listing these in the past as best as I could with the correct color
and tail description. But it is not perfect, I agree. For example, a lot of listings
for the "Pearl very light gray" kraata are listed as "white", "pearl white" "Pearl
light gray" of "Very light gray". So sellers find it already hard to list them
with the correct color. The tail color itself is a whole different story.

I like your idea as well, but I do think that Bricklink tries to minimize any
"special" features intended for specific parts, and rather tries to come up with
a generic solution.

Looking at the 6 Rahkshi sets, I think these all came with the same color+tail
color variation. So a Guurahk would have always included a metal blue kraata
with a medium blue tail. So in an ideal world, the bricklink entry for that set
would include that specific kraata. That would require a Kraata bricklink part
as " kraata with medium blue tail" (with "metal blue" as ).

But as there are a lot of different combinations, as can be seen in your (rather
excellent) link, that would mean a lot of differen new kraata entries. And that
could in turn cause new problems with the added complexity.

Comments from Submitter:
I'm in the process of parting out this set and my copy has these variants of these parts. I bought this set recently second hand and most of the set was still built, so I'm confident these parts came with this set. (sorry, missed this part with my previous change request)
