Please change the category "Dragon Knights" to "Dragon Masters".
While both names have been used, "Dragon Masters" is the more common
and well-known; additionally, "Dragon Knights" is the name of the Kingdoms
faction, so I would like to avoid confusion.

Also, please merge the categories "Lion Knights" and "Crusaders";
they are the same faction. "Crusaders" was the first official name (with
Lion Knights being the colloquial name for the earlier sets of the same faction),
though "Lion Knights" has now been canonised via the Lion Knights'
Castle.

Just bumping this, since the Icons-branded Dune Ornithopter is in the

What about, instead of renumbering everything, we just create DC and Marvel sub-categories?
Then, entries can be classified along the lines of “Super Heroes - Marvel - Avengers”/“Super
Heroes - DC - The Batman”.

Also, I would do the reclassification work!

I have been searching through the catalog for a minifigure to go with a book.

The book is listed with a picture of the minifig but the minifig is not linked
to the book or in the book listing it says it doesn't consist of anything,
whereas it should consist of 7 books and 1 minifig

The book is 9781465466709 and the minifig that goes with it is SW0503

Minifig No: sw0503 Name: Special Forces Commander
*
sw0503 (Inv) Special Forces Commander
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Yoda Chronicles
[B=9781465466709]

That would make it appearing in 5 books and not 4 as listed.

Many thanks.

Do you have a copy of the book, or can you at least confirm the contents via
a YouTube review?

There is no differentiation between these shades on Bricklink and it had caused
me to order the same pieces from different stores several times until I had the
correct amount of pieces in the correct shade I wanted. This is especially frustrating
with the most uncommon pieces in dark red. For those of you who don't know
the differences, here's a link to an article that explains it well :
https://www.newelementary.com/2019/05/has-lego-color-dark-red-changed.html?m=1
Since the original dark red and the newest dark red have a similar translucid
effect, I think they should be in the same category. The dark red shade produced
between 2009 and 2018 is more opaque and most importantly, more brittle. So I
suggest a new category for this specific shade but I don't know how to rename
it. Please give your suggestions.

BrickLink does not differentiate between production differences within a single
colour (154 New Dark Red).

Agreed on differentiation. 👍

My suggestion would be “Pearl Light Silver” (296 Cool Silver / Pearl Light Gray),
“Pearl Medium Silver” (131 Silver / Pearl Light Gray), and “Pearl Silver” (315
Silver Metallic / Flat Silver). This better represents what LEGO has produced,
and is more descriptive of the shades and colours (PLG is a silver colour, but
the name does not contain the word “silver”!).

Last year, BrickLink decided to reclassify the Pearl Light Gray color as encompassing
both the lighter Pearl Light Gray (Cool Silver) parts that were made from 2006-2010
and the previous darker shade which was then grouped as "Flat Silver"
(131 Silver).

Since the new update, it has been very difficult to source the correct shade
of parts, which are differentiable and belong to specific sets, especially within
the Bionicle range. I believe it is time for BrickLink to reclassify the darker
shade into a new color so the community can list/purchase parts with greater
accuracy. Propositions for the 131 Silver color name could be something like
below, (or whatever the BrickLink team would find appropriate):

-Flat Pearl
-Medium Pearl Light Gray
-Pearl Medium Gray

BrickLink stated about a year ago: "Future: BrickLink will most likely introduce
a third silver color so that all three LEGO silver colors (131 Silver, 296 Cool
Silver, and 315 Silver Metallic) have a direct correlation to a BrickLink color.
The BrickLink color names may need to be updated to create harmony between them."

Can this be done?

Maybe something like this should be done for pearl gold lol they are really different.

Pearl Gold’s variations are within a single LEGO colour (297 Warm Gold) though,
unlike with the silvers.

UGH. These are not better.

~Jen

Oblique viewing angle on patterned parts.

The parts can be rotated via the spin feature, so there are other possible angles.

All the minifig parts I saw so far were still oblique (shot from slightly above).

Ah, OK.
To be fair, though, the older type of renders were from basically the same angle.
🫤

I always worry about how inconsistency affects our catalog images.

Fair, but images provided by BL members also run into the same issue (not everyone
has a professional setup for photographing parts, as some of our members clearly
do!)

My worry was that LEGO will stop producing the images we are currently using
and start using these new renders. Some are better, some are worse. We can't
just reapply every part in every color. So now there will be a mix of old and
new. And anytime someone at LEGO feels like it, the part is now presented at
a different angle. Or someone uploads the images at all different angles and
now admins (or submitters who care about such things) have to go run down a better
version.

Maybe we should create some standards for image angles, then? Additionally, perhaps
both old and new renders can be included in part entries when possible, in order
to better facilitate a potential transition. Obviously this would take a lot
of time and effort, so maybe we could start with new parts?

I see the catalog images as needing to serve two masters: accuracy and identification.

Accuracy means that images show what the part really looks like with actual paint
colors, mold marks, variants etc.

Identification means that when going through browsing for parts or picking orders,
the images and colors can be quickly compared. Good identification means having
all the colors consistent and all the identical parts presented at the same angle.
It's also really difficult to compare patterned parts when they are all flipped
at different angles.

Sorry, I am just brainstorming here seeing all the potential problems. I am sure
there are some positive factors I will think of tomorrow.

These look really good! As for their being used as BrickLink images, since they
are high-quality and official, I see no reason that they would not be accepted
if they were to be submitted to the Catalog.

not, I fear that the gummies gang will take over the forum!

Hi. Brand new to the forum and excited to be a late Lego bloomer. My fiance and
I had recently bought a house and most of the belongings were left behind. I
noticed a giant box of Lego that looked to be in immaculate condition, so I started

a bunch of other vintage complete sets.

This is literally every AFOL’s dream! Congratulations!
Which other sets did you get?

E) yes, it would be nice new inventory to part-out & resell.

Considering that there are a lot of obscure out-of-production colours
(e.g. 176 Red Flip/Flop), it would be almost impossible for LEGO to make a full
set of crayons even if they wanted to. Additionally, Brickset has a full database
of LEGO’s colours (complete with images of parts in said colours and a list of
sets where each colour appears), so just using that as a reference when needed
is far easier and more economical for all involved!

This is fake; LEGO does not make entirely transparent Minifigs.

No, but I strongly believe that all flexible rubber hairpieces should contain
a reference to this fact in their part titles.

No just that it is for mini doll figures

Even this is incorrect, as many hairpieces from the “Mini Doll, Hair” category
have been used on regular Minifigs (and all Minidoll hairpieces are compatible
with Minifigs). IMO, it is an arbitrary and unnecessary distinction that just
clutters up the Catalog and makes things harder to find.

For my entry, I decided to play on the historical origins of the song (I.E. a
hick in formal-yet-garish clothing), and my recent work on Pirates Catalog entries
brought the idea together as an American pirate captain who goes by the name
“Yankee Doodle” to taunt the Imperial Guards from whom he steals!

Additionally, please take a photo of the suspect torsos from the top down, focused
on the LEGO trademark that should be on the top of the stud. Genuine LEGO torsos
almost always have the LEGO trademark on that stud in italics, some fakes that
have been found have the logo in capitals but they are not in italics.

+1!

I'm not certain if the Chinese factory had been using italics on their torso studs or not, but it may help in identifying them properly.

One does wonder, though, if a few early releases slipped through, before TLG
corrected the problem.

They discovered the problem with the Chinese factory, is it known at all whether
there were torsos made from it before TLG visited them and replaced the incorrect
molds?

Cheers ...

ghyde

The problems were with the transparency and texture/quality of the plastic, as
well as colour-inconsistency when compared to normal parts; to my knowledge there
was never an issue with the logos.

following question may suffice: can anyone confirm if counterfeit (printed) torsos
*with* Lego markings on the top of the neck stud are a known issue? Please
note that we are not referring to counterfeit printing on an otherwise genuine
plain Lego torso and that the item in question is the 973pb0527c01/973pb0527c02
torso.

Polaris

We received a shipment of used 973pb0527c01/2 torsos. We have dozens of these
in our personal collection and dozens of these in the yellow hands variant in
our store inventory (new) so we are very familiar with this ~ decade-old torso.
We have encountered counterfeit minifigure parts in bulk used lots and the occasional
BrickLink order but the items we classified as counterfeit lacked a Lego marking
(such as a Lego marking on the neck stud of a torso).

Several of the issue (used) 973pb0527c01/2 torsos we recently received have
a Lego marking on the top of the neck stud but...
- these lack the black band on the neck stud (this is not the result of wear
- there is no indication that any material was ever applied to the neck stud)
- these have uniform printing defects (the gold print on the front is not metallic
and this is not the result of wear as the printing is intact; the knapsack on
the back of the torso is very dark and not the usual dark brown, etc.)
- the red ABS torso is off colour and the torso shows no sign of discoluration
from UV exposure (this uniformly applies to the front, back, and both sides of
the torsos)

We can come up with potential explanations for the above three issues but there
is one remaining issue that we cannot make sense of:
- the finish of the neck studs is unusual and inconsistent with the dozens of
new and used versions of this torso in our personal collection and store inventory.
The dimensions are very marginally off when compared with parts that we are ~certain
of being original Lego (i.e., parts from sealed sets that we opened/items from
a BAM station). The top of the neck studs are rounded and not smooth/flat and
the ribs are inconsistent with other Lego torsos from the same timeframe. It
looks like someone copied the Lego torso mold but could not match the tolerances
of the genuine Lego injection molding process (or there was a very major problem
at one of the Lego factories when this torso was in production).

Pictures can be viewed here: https://imgur.com/a/1ks5YSg

We are considering two explanations:
- these are genuine red Lego torsos with counterfeit printing (which makes sense
but why go through the effort of counterfeiting quite common plain red torsos?)
- these are counterfeit Lego torsos (with counterfeit printing)

We were not active Lego collectors back when this torso was introduced in sets
(~2009-2011) and are not up to speed on known production issues concerning the
finish of Lego torsos produced at the time and have not encountered counterfeits
that feature a Lego marking on the top of the neck stud. Any guidance will be
greatly appreciated.

Polaris

Based on the description and pictures, these seem like legit LEGO parts from
the old Chinese factory; the lack of a neck mark and the translucence of the
plastic are giveaways in this regard.

I doubt they are counterfeit torsos. They are probably just from this set

What makes you think that these torsos are fake? Could you post some comparison
photos of the presumed fakes alongside verified real ones? I am not sure if fakes
have shown up with the LEGO logo on the top of the neck, but pictures would allow
the differences between the torsos to be evaluated.

So you're off the off-topic, Sir Chicken.

The Concorde is not retired - It has not been released yet!

Indeed it is white!

just parts. I’m wondering what the quickest and easiest way to sort them is?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Whatever you do, don’t sort by colour.

Can confirm! 😬
Especially with dark colours such as Black, everything just blends together!

Thank you. I don’t know how you all do this for a living or side hustle. It’s
much more than I expected when I started this “little project “.

I am not a seller - I just remember the disastrous results of trying to sort
by colour when I first got into LEGO (around age 3)!

Parts: Plate {Reddish Brown}

Just on a whim, and possibly because I once before witnessed a Furty torso crack
(also from a 70111-1), I gave the plate a rotational flex. Nothing severe, pretty
mild flex. It snapped immediately. So I checked the other 11. They all snapped,
some with more flex, some with barely any flex at all. We are all aware of the
brittle parts from that era. This is the most extreme example I have seen. If
you have any of that part in your inventory, in that color, and there is a chance
it is from that era, pull them out and give them a flex. Listen closely. If they
are about to snap, you will hear a sound of plastic sheering from itself just
before it goes. One of them actually sent shrapnel flying when it went, but did
not hit me. Obviously those will not be listed for sale, but I might think of
a way to work them into a MOC.

yikes on Reddish Brown.
sounds like a lawsuit w/ Lego sooner than later if a "easily breaks/sharp
edges" warning regarding reddish brown parts isn't displayed on packages
with that color parts.

The era of Brittle Brown was roughly 2009-2016, with the issue being fixed by
2018 (IIRC), so I highly doubt that there will be a lawsuit. If that were going
to happen, it already would have, as very few children are playing with bricks
from the Brittle Brown era (one born at the end would already be around 5!).

IMO, the presence of a stud makes a part a Plate (and the absence of one makes
it a Tile), regardless of the stud-to-flat surface ratio.

These two look different (and greener) compared to the rest of the parts; to
ensure that this is not just colour-variation/inconsistency (since TNG existed
over the course of decades and multiple changes to LEGO’s colour pallete), get
some known Trans-Neon Green parts and compare under the black light.

Those might be made of MABS plastic.

Maybe? LEGO started switching over to MABS around 2018, so we have around 3-4
years in which sets were released with Trans-Neon Green 1x1 rounds post-change.
The way to check this would be to get some Trans-Neon Green parts from one of
the more recent sets (2021-2022) and compare.

(This might seem like an invalid request but please read for details.)

The head of this figure, at least on every version I have seen including my own from a sealed set of 7961, is part 3626cps8, not part 3626bps8 as is currently listed.

These parts are supposedly linked by having the same printed design on a different head (b vs c type heads). In fact, the prints are very noticeably different, such as the nose being more detailed, the chin being wider and additional black markings near the eyes being present on the newer version. (Note- these are not the 'print variations' shown in the image on the item page of 3626bps8. This is a 3rd design, the same as is shown on the page for 3626cps8.)

The same issue is present in the inventory of sw0423 'Santa Darth Maul'.

Additional note: I attempted to include a row in my change request to add part 3626cps8 to the inventory but this was not allowed as the system believes that part is already listed in the inventory.

The PCC for the head on Minifig sw0003, per the instructions for Set 7663 is
4512841.
The PCC for the head on Minifig sw0323, per the instructions for Set 7961 is
4629999.

While LEGO does sometimes change part numbers for the same piece, when combined
with the fact that the respective heads look notably different, I think this
is proof that the heads are in fact different.

Can you post comparison photos?

Head accessories removed for better comparison. I've had these figures for
a while so they have some wear but the relevant print differences are still visible.

The eyes appear closer together and the nose is less pronounced on the right
one; it looks like the head on the right matches the figure’s photo, while the
head on the left matches the head that is in the Minifig’s inventory.

I would suggest getting some parts that you know are Trans-Neon Green
(along with some Trans-Yellow as well) and just compare them. A black light would
also be helpful, if you have one, for differentiating between Trans-Yellow and
Trans-Neon Yellow.
Also, consider the source of the parts (if known); Trans-Neon Green was extremely
common (appearing across basically every theme over the course of around 30 years!),
while the Trans-Neon Yellow 1x1 rounds only appeared in one Belville set from
2005 (Set 5960).

Minifig No: sw0323 Name: Darth Maul - Horns and Cape, Plain Legs

sw0323 (Inv) Darth Maul - Horns and Cape, Plain Legs
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 1

* Delete 1 Part 3626bps8 Black Minifigure, Head Alien with SW Darth Maul, Red Face Pattern - Blocked Open Stud

Comments from Submitter:

Can you post comparison photos?

Torso Assembly is Part 973pb0204newc01, and Torso is 973pb0204new.

Do you by any chance have some of the late-1990’s Pirates Minifigs, or their
early-2000’s rerelease counterparts? I need someone to check them to see what
type of torsos they use (prongs or X-ribs). Unfortunately, I do not have any
of my own to check. 🫤

I think that we should make a decision here based on whichever version is more
common; mistakes (missing pieces, for instance) happen, but they are not documented
in inventories. If more copies of this set have a single cape, then the ones
with two must just be aberrations and not worth referencing in the inventory.

Although as randyf mentioned extras are extras and not in any way a guarantee
that they are included. But for fabric like this I must wonder if since it’s
such a small and light part it it’s a common packing mistake as I know on multiple
occasions with cmfs I’ve received multiple fabric pieces instead of just the
one that was supposed to be included instead of an extra

Capes also stick together, so more than the intended number can end up in the
packaging (this actually happened to me with a seller here!).
The key IMO is whether this packing mistake is common or rare; common warrants
an inclusion in the inventory, while rare does not.

  This message system is suck.

It may be a simple solution to just send them another message and say the previous
one was incorrect

I just realised that since the switch from small prongs to X-ribs in torsos occurred
in 1997/1998, the Minifigs in both the original and rereleased versions of the
Red Beard Runner, Armada Flagship, Enchanted Island, and Black Seas Barracuda
need to be checked. Obviously the BSB Minifigs and torsos need to be split into
'89 and '02 variants, and since the other three sets were released between
1994 and 1996 (and reissued in 2001), those Minifigs and torsos also need to
be split.
Unfortunately, as I do not have any of these sets, I cannot check things for
myself. Additionally, since Pirates I continued through 1997, there is a chance
that some of those Minifigs had X-ribs, so all sets from the late Pirates I era
will also need to be checked.

Please help.

Having separate entries for reissue torsos has never been a systematic thing and probably has all been done retroactively. It obviously wasn't a priority a decade ago.

Ah; odd, but I can see that being the case. 🫤

I have both minifigures if you want assistance.

Yes! Thank you!! I need pictures for both the 2009 Torso Assembly and Torso entries,
plus a shot of each comparing the two with ribs visible (to be added to all four
entries).

BTW, could you also upload a new photo for the OG torso? The existing picture
has terrible print quality, and misrepresents what the part actually (usually)
looks like, IMO. I would do it, but your photos are great, and mine are. . .
less great.

Which sets are you having difficulty with, specifically? I think that they look
different enough in instructions, and the two colours almost never appear together
in sets (or if they do, not for the same parts).
