I'm interested in doing a bit of a study. For myself, as a seller and
as a buyer, I'm firmly of the belief that the seller should leave feedback
first. I myself leave feedback when I've shipped the order, even in some
circumstances once the order is packed - at any rate, definitely before the buyer
would leave it. Some have the opposite opinion - that the buyer should leave
feedback first.
Limited evidence (I have a small store, not many orders, maybe my store attracts
a certain kind of buyer?) suggests that leaving feedback when I do has a positive
effect on whether or not I receive feedback in kind. The reason I say this
is that my feedback-to-orders ratio has consistently been between 65-70%, and
yet I've heard that the average feedback-to-orders ratio across BL is more
like 50%. Now I try to be professional and communicative, and because my store
is small I can ship quickly, but many other stores on BL that are larger than
mine offer exemplary service, and I don't think my service is so good as
to account for the higher feedback ratio.
So, if you're willing to answer, would you mind answering with:
- when you leave feedback (before or after the buyer: I don't know if it
has to be specific)
- what your store's current feedback-to-orders ratio is
Thanks!

"Who should leave feedback first?"
I actually don't believe there is a wrong answer to that question... the
topic always brings up a wealth of differing opinions; and yet, they all seem
to be correct (at least I can see the reasoning for each opinion, and agree with
them based upon that reasoning)...
That said, for myself, I have been leaving positive feedback for a Buyer after
I ship their order (it's part of my process); only on rare occasions will
I not do so... I see a Buyer as making payment for an order as their requisite
part of the transaction, and the verifying, packing, and shipping of their order
is my responsibility; everything else after that is in the hands of the shipping
service... if something goes wrong, I will do my best to remedy the issue with
a communicative Buyer; but that doesn't change the fact that the Buyer did
everything required of them by placing an order and paying me...
So am I wrong for leaving feedback before the Buyer receives their order,
considering the transaction isn't actually 'completed' at that point?
Maybe. However, I have too many things going on in my life to be worried about
whether the USPS damages the package or fails to deliver it (which have both
happened on occasion); but those issues do not change the fact that the Buyer
placed an order from me, and paid for said order promptly... the only thing in
my control if something goes wrong during shipping is to work with the Buyer
to make things right (which I believe my feedback illustrates that I do)...
Am I losing out on feedback from my Buyers by doing this this way? Well, maybe
(see my stats in the screenshot); but there's no guarantee that those Buyers
were going to leave me feedback regardless; besides, I am merely expressing my
gratitude to my Buyers in leaving that feedback. I cannot control all outcomes--nor
do I really attempt to--but I can control my communication with my Buyers,
and I feel that feedback is a critical part of that (regardless of whether others
see it that way or not)...
So the truest answer to the question of "Who should leave feedback
first?" is simply "to each their own"...

I must admit I held off on implementing onsite and instant payment for as long
as I could (I think mainly out of stubbornness, but also because of quality control:
I felt I wanted to check all items before I had someone pay me for them);
|
There is a common misconception, Onsite Payment is not the same as Instant Checkout
Onsite is just that, when and invoice is sent, there appears a PAY button in
the order and in the orders received page for the buyer to pay.
Instant Checkout is configuring your shipping methods to send the invoice to
the buyer automatically. And this is configurable for each one, you can have
IC for domestic only or for smaller orders, whatever you want.
You can have PayPal Onsite and Stripe linked but maintaining your shipping methods
in Manual.
| but now that I have been using it for a few years with instant payment, I wouldn't
want to go back... it eliminated a lot of previous hassles with NPBs that I didn't
realize were occupying way too much of my time back then, and it seems my concern
with the quality control of my items and inventory was just my own paranoia;
because I rarely make mistakes, and my Buyers are just as happy as before the
change...

I am aware of the distinction between the two; I was simply saying that a bunch
of my previous issues with NPBs disappeared once I implemented both around the
same time...

Also, remember that if you only use Instant Checkout, you need to make sure all
the items in your store inventory have the volume/weight required to allow for
it (some of the volume/weight for items are not in the catalog, and if someone
tries to buy one of those items from you, they typically cannot checkout)...
the simplest way to check all the items in your inventory that are missing some
bit of information that prevents them from being purchased via Instant Checkout
is by going to "My Store--Inventory", then making sure the "Instant Checkout
Unavailable" box is checked, and hitting the "Go!" button... if anything pops
up, those items missing information that would allow for Instant Checkout; you
can then add whatever info (volume or weight) is missing manually (as you can
see in the screenshots, I added a weight to mine)...
It took me a while to figure this out because a Buyer asked about a specific
item that they were unable to checkout with (and I only use Instant Checkout
now), and it turns out I had a bunch of items that couldn't be sold via Instant
Checkout; as the missing volume/weight info prevented any Buyer from checking
out if any one of those items was in their cart...
I regularly check it from time to time now, as I add more items to my inventory,
so I don't have that issue again...

There are two fairly obvious reasons:
It cuts the prices you can ask for the new parts (and still sell it).
It cuts the number of people likely to be interested.

My high prices and continued sales would refute that reasoning...

Been doing that for years; it makes managing a massive inventory (I've maintained
over a million parts for years now) much simpler that way by myself... the only
items I will typically list as new are minifigures, cloth items, sticker sheets,
and a few various items (like stuff on sprues)... but the bulk of my parts is
listed as Used, even though many would be considered brand new; I find my Buyers
are always really happy to find that the "Used" items they ordered, are in like
new condition...
Still though, it makes managing a massive parts inventory easier as one inventory
("Used"), as opposed to two ("Used" & "New")...

I arrive at the following classification, from very small to very large:
1. very small store 1-500 parts
2. -----------------500-2500 parts
3. -----------------2500- 2500
4. -----------------12500-62500
5. -----------------62500-150000
6. -----------------150000-360000
7. -----------------360000-864000
8. very large store 864000-and more
Do you think this is useful? Apart from the two first classes (1-500 and 500-2500)
every next step is about 2,5 times the size of the previous one.
What do you think?

I've shipped nearly 300 orders to California addresses this year, and have

Again, just my POV, but this is to me the most disappointing GWP to ever come

The color scheme just hurts my eyes and the build looks like something that belongs
in the monthly mini-build series.
All kidding aside: was this a special project where a child could enter to create
the next GWP? If so, kuddos to the child for succeeding in making its build into
an actual Lego set.
If this was genuinely created by a certified Lego builder: how drunk was that
person and moreover, how drunk was his / her boss to approve this for a GWP?
