Were sticker sheets systematically included as extras in some sets in the way
that other parts are? We really don't know, since we haven't been keeping
data on extra appearances. The current inventory guidelines don't address
how frequently an extra must appear in order to be added to the inventory, but
the unwritten rule has been one time.

What are your thoughts?

I too have received an extra sticker sheet a time or two, but never frequently
or consistently. For example, parting out 10 copies of a set, and ending up
with 11 sticker sheets. The extra sticker sheet seems more like a packing error
by TLG, and as such, I don't think I would add them as extras in the set
inventory.

I don't think sticker sheets were ever systematically included as extra parts,
in the way that 1x1 plates, technic pins, and other small parts commonly are.

Invoices (with the payment details too) should also be viewable on BL, not only
in email. That way a buyer cannot claim it is not their fault if their spam filters
reject them.

I would definitely vote for this. This has been suggested many times. It is one
of the most reasonable suggestions ever. I have no idea why BrickLink keeps ignoring
it.

Thor

I do receive invoices for purchases in my BrickLink messages. If other people
are not receiving them, I assume there must be an option to turn it on and off
somewhere. I took a quick look, but didn't find it. Anyone else know where
it is?

OK, so I've opened all the bags, sorted all the parts into little piles and
verified the counts, and now I just need to physically merge them into my existing
inventory. I typically do this by scrolling through the part out screen once
more and checking off each part in order as I add it to my inventory storage.
It would be rally handy at this point if I knew how many (if any) of that part
I already had, so that I would now if should retrieve an existing lot to add
the new lot to, or can just dump the new lot into a new baggie and add it to
the drawer. It'd also allow me to do a quick validation of existing lots
to make sure I actually have the qtys that BL thinks I do.

Essentially I'm asking for one additional field on the Part Out Review screen
that shows, for each lot being added, my current quantity in stock.

Thanks,

-djm

Here is another method, which I've found useful. When I do a part-out, I
use the option to "Upload all items as Stockroom C Items." Then down below,
in the consolidate lots settings, choose "Old Stockroom Option." The result
is that any items that I already have stay where they were, and all the new lots
are in Stockroom C.

The order detail page is one of the most frequently used - this is where sellers
pull the pieces for each order.

It shows the standard catalog details for each item ordered, as well as specific
information from the sellers own inventory:

Comments
Remarks
Left (quantity left)
Price

I suggest that these 4 fields be made editable on the Order Detail page. This
would speed up the process for sellers to correct or update their information
while pulling the order.

Just a tip you can use in the meanwhile:

You can switch on the "qty left" field, and you can click on it while pressing
the Command key (if you have a mac, I don't know if a similar key exists
on Windows). A new tab will open with your item where you can change everything
you want.

Rob.

With Windows, it is the Control (CTRL) key which allows you to open the link
in a new tab.

Clicking while holding the SHIFT key opens the link in a completely new window.

Wouldn't it be nice if the catalog has some search mode for out of the ordinary
colored items like prototype colors andsoone?

I have several dark purple Halberd Elaborate 6123 that might interest buyers.
But it's not something you generally look for if you don't know such an item
excists.

Maybe a search in the catalog named HTF or Hard to Find, rare or whatever term
Catmin chooses?

It would be nice for me/us as seller(s) but also for the buyer that looks for
something different he/she otherwise would not find.

I think it's a nice idea, but I have one question; what would be the definition
of rare?

I think if left to individual sellers it could be open to abuse by some.

Yeah, that's one of the big problems with ebay. "HTF" is so over-used that it
has become meaningless.

Maybe it could be automatically applied to items that are not in any set?

That's a good idea, and it solves the maintenance problem. Once a piece appears
in a set, then it would lose it's "difficult to obtain " designation.

Or are there large quantities of these, maybe from PAB?

In fact, it is already possible to search for parts that do not appear in sets.
It's an obscure search feature, though. I doubt if many new BL'ers would find
it. I guess I would say that this search feature is HTF...

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?pg=1&catLike=W&noIn=Y&sortBy=N&sortAsc=A&sz=100&v=1

Playing around with that search feature a bit more, it doesn't seem as useful
as I first thought. I don't see a way to get it to display common parts in uncommon
colors.

It doesn't happen in the real world (hardly) so why would that happen here?

Please reconsider my suggestion.

In the real world, everyone can see you standing in the middle of the store with
an overflowing shopping cart, but not buying anything.

I'm just thinking outloud about a way it "might" work, but even if it were done
as I'm about to describe, I would still vote NO.

The only way I could see your suggestion working would be if the reserved items
still showed up for all to see, but with a note saying something like: "This
item is currently in the shopping cart of Thunor." With the shopper identified,
there would be much less malicious activity.

The person could then click a button to inquire about the item and Thunor would
have a short time to respond, say 5 minutes. Otherwise, the item is released.
This would be similar to walking up to a fellow shopper in the local store and
saying, "Excuse me, I see you have the Newest Whiz-bang Gadget in your cart,
and there are no more on the shelf. If you aren't planning to actually buy it,
could I have it?"

Wow, this is getting more ridiculous the more I type.

I think the system works fine as it is. In over 30 orders placed as a buyer,
I've only had something bought out of my cart one time. It's annoying when it
happens, but it doesn't happen very often.

I vote NO.

I have bl on for weeks at a time. It does not log you off.

Well, this is only if the browser program has ended without "logoff". I'm not
sure what happens with the session if the browser stays running BL but there
is no activity. It depends on how BL has implemented the timeout...

Arnoud

I think there are two different things at work:

1. When you log in to BL, there is a checkbox to "remember me," which I checked
off, and it sounds like you did, too. I've never had to enter my password again
since, which I assume means there is a cookie on my computer which prevents me
from needing to enter my password. The risk with this is that somebody who finds
a lost laptop could really wreak some havoc. Or somebody's eight-year-old could
place an order without permission.

2. I read somewhere (and I can't remember where, but probably on one of the help
pages), that BL updates your last active time whenever you go to a page that
would require you to be logged in. I would assume this is what would trigger
the store closing.

The cookie prevents me from ever needing to enter my password again, but BL only
considers me "logged in" at that instant when I access a page that would require
me to be logged in.

Or, I could be totally wrong
