I have been thinking about building something showing the colors in that 3D space,
but I gave up because I could not think of an elegant way to do it.

That’s why I added comments after looking at the plot under different angles.

I've thought about this before and if we really have a full go at it, then
we should drop the 'no adjectives' al together, and name all colors with
adjectives from light to dark (light - medium light - medium - medium dark -
dark). The no adjective color creates this problem as that is not a defined position
on the imaginary scale.

Well, first, some colours are inherently already light (or dark). E.g. Lime
is a light colour (high J component). Light Lime is very light. I don’t know
what name would be the matching “centred” colour but, even you find it (say,
‘G’) and rename Lime as Light G and Light Lime as Very Light G, people will see
Light G and say “eh, why isn’t this called ‘Lime’?”
Or if you say “Lime is the base colour,” you’d have people asking why Medium
Lime is lighter than Light This or Light That….

Anyway, here, it was just an exercise on LEGO official names, to get a hint on
some sort of objective rule in TLG’s use of the adjectives.

While I have no Horse in this race. I personally DO not only NOT want to see
these on Bricklink but anyone SELLING them should get an Arrow to the Knee. The
Purpose of these are for Blind Children, Not so there is a Scummy market of third
party sellers making a profit and I know we have a few here that would do it.

If BL had some better management to address LEGO in the Buying side verse History
Archive I'd say it would be here for History reference without an option
to buy.

End of Line......

They will definitely be on sale on other marketplaces, so there will always be
people profiting from these.

IMO, if they are LEGO, then they should have a spot in the catalog.
And having them for sale is also a way of getting them to kids that can't
get them from LEGO itself.

Maybe a crazy/stupid(?) idea, but what about setting them to a fixed (cheap)
price on BL?

I think that would be illegal.

Sellers that want to help getting them spread all over the world can put them
up for sale, while buyers that need them (or want to donate them) don't have
to pay ridiculous prices.
"Scummy market" sellers aren't encouraged anymore for selling them here,
since they can't make any (big) profit.

for the blind by buying these special bricks? For every brick purchased, say

We also see some school charity donations finding their way to resellers after

E.g. the 3001 brick comes in 3 major differences on BrickLink, but if you count
all the (technical) differences then there are at least 42... so where
to draw the line?

most of the Trans-Purple Clikits parts did not match the modern Trans-Purple.

I don't think so. Randy detected the two colors of Trans-purple and 7554-1
has entirely eluded us in this project.

a "catalog color problem" before.

I have searched for the different Clikits colors years ago, when I joined Pikachu3
on the project of finding out about the LEGO colors. I have not found more Transparent
Bright BLUISH Lilac parts (in reality and in online databases), but that is no
guarantee that they do not exist.

I can say with certainty that Transparent Bright BLUISH Lilac is rare in Clikits,
while Transparent Bright REDDISH Lilac is common. In LEGO System sets, it is
the opposite (only one part known).

Harder than some of the other ones.

I have just checked all my clikits parts. ALL trans-purple Clikits parts are
the Transparent Bright Reddish Lilac color, except clikits007. So we would only
have to check clikits007.

The color difference is pretty obvious in reality, but sadly not in the set images
in our catalog.

The glitter version also uses the (regular) bluish version. That does not have
to be changed.

I think all Transparent Bright Bluish Lilac stars came from set 7555-1

Light Purple is grouped with Flamingo Pink into BrickLink's Bright Pink.
(Flamingo Pink is used for parts clikits141, clikits135, clikits135pb01, clikits100pb04)
The color is clearly different from Bright Pink. Flamingo Pink was only used
for a few parts, and there are no parts that are available in both colors. Keeping
this grouping as it is could be ACCEPTABLE.

I would like to see this one broken out because it is markedly different and
unique. It was lower priority than the others I had added last year, but I hope
we can add it at a later time.

Transparent Fluorescent Blue and Transparent Light Royal Blue (used in Clikits)
are grouped into BrickLink's Trans-Medium Blue. I propose NO CHANGE.

This one will not be separated out.

I agree here, also.

BrickLink has a tradition of grouping colors. In some cases, that is no problem
(Bright Yellow and Fire Yellow). In some cases the group should be split.

For this, my personal priorities are:

1) Groups where parts have been made in both colors
These should be split.

2) Colors that look different, but have no overlap in the parts that were made.
For these, I would prefer a split but maintaining the group could be an acceptable
compromise.

3) Colors that are difficult to separate (for example dark pink, or yellow).
In a purist catalog, those should be split. In a catalog aimed at practical use
and sale, they should remain grouped. The grouping should be mentioned in the
color help file though.

"Trans-Light Yellow" would be recognisable,
but I think that confused sellers will be using it for other parts also.

My thoughts:

(1) "Tran-Light Yellow" was my first thought for a name, so I am glad to see
you mention that. It is distinctly lighter than normal Trans-Yellow, so I think
it fits nicely in the current list of color names.

Trans-Light Yellow is probably the best option.

(2) "Trans-Fire Yellow" is a non-starter because it doesn't make any sense
and current "Trans-Neon Yellow" looks much more "fiery" than this color.

Agreed.

(3) I would do anything to not have the "Clikits" name in the trans-colors list,
so a name with "Clikits" in it is most likely also a non-starter (even though
it was only used in the Clikits theme).

It might prevent some sellers to list regular parts as Trans-Light Yellow, but
an update (with photos) to the color help file could help there.

(4) The fact that it fluoresces is not apparent just by looking at the color,
so I would stray away from anything with "Neon" in the name.

These items were moved form Trans-Yellow to Trans-Neon Yellow because they are
fluorescent. That is why I mentioned it. I agree that it is not apparent by looking
at the parts.

I got the last two colors added ("Clikits Lavender" and "Trans-Light Bright Green")
due to the huge Clikits project that was worked on all last summer, so I can
see what I could do to get this one added.

If anyone has any other thoughts on this, please post them here.

P.S. A couple of other issues with the Clikits colors are the fact that there
are two shades of Trans-Purple which are not distinguished (this color difference
bleeds into other areas of the catalog, such as part 30374), and there are some
pink parts that are not distinguished (I believe it is known as Flamingo Pink).

Fire Yellow is grouped with Bright Yellow into BrickLink's Yellow.
I propose NO CHANGE.

Light Purple is grouped with Flamingo Pink into BrickLink's Bright Pink.
(Flamingo Pink is used for parts clikits141, clikits135, clikits135pb01, clikits100pb04)
The color is clearly different from Bright Pink. Flamingo Pink was only used
for a few parts, and there are no parts that are available in both colors. Keeping
this grouping as it is could be ACCEPTABLE.

Transparent Fluorescent Blue and Transparent Light Royal Blue (used in Clikits)
are grouped into BrickLink's Trans-Medium Blue. I propose NO CHANGE.

Transparent Bright Bluish Violet and Transparent Bright Reddish Lilac are grouped
into BrickLink's Trans-Purple. If I remember correctly, I have clikits007
in both colors. These colors SHOULD BE SPLIT.

I wish it didn't feel that way to you. I have the same ideal as you that
Trans-Fire would get added to the catalog and we could do it perfectly. I only

It does feel that way, but I can understand your point of view also. We just
have different priorities/preferences.

- The color is a fluorescent (but less so than Trans-Neon Yellow
- The color was used for Clikits only

I think that not many users would know what "Fire yellow" means.

That color is so close to yellow that it does not make sense to add a new color

"Trans-Clikits Light Neon Yellow" might be least confusing, but that is an awkward

but I think that confused sellers will be using it for other parts also.

Yellow. They can be differentiated as you found. Trans-Fire Yellow doesn't
glow as strongly as Trans-Neon Yellow.

There are many more parts in trans fire yellow, originating in more Clikits sets.

The parts on the left are LEGO Light Reddish Violet. The parts on the
right are LEGO Rose. Both are called pink on BrickLink.

I am not sure if BrickLink's Light Pink actually exist. I suspect many are

I recently found a rare 9290-1 for sale. I took the band off myself, so I'm

or humidity or anything else. The set is 24 years old.

I didn't notice any problem as I prepared the inventory and sorted the set
out in my kitchen and living room. But when I got it ready to sell the pieces,
in my stockroom with bright white light, I found the white pieces all off-white.
They aren't terrible, you know? I've seen way worse. But they were
not factory white. So I have given them all to my daughters. But none of the
other colors seemed bad until I was consolidating pieces that I already had in
my inventory. This pic shows what I found. Maybe the pink is damaged, but I
just wondered if maybe it wasn't. If 5890 and 9290 come with different old
pinks, then I want to keep one of each for reference. And I have enough to prepare
3 more reference sets for other people. I take some hope from the fact that
the ones in 9290 seem lighter. I'm not sure what a yellowed old pink piece
would look like, but I would expect it to get darker rather than lighter.

Set 5980 was made from 1994 to 1995.

Set 9290 was issued in 1996. It is not included in the LEGO Collector's guide,
so I am not sure how long those were released.

Ryan uses 1994 as the year of the color change. In my earlier message
(PM), I thought it was 1997.

Both of these are the newer Light Reddish Violet.

Had a largish haul of parts with a lot of Dark Pink bricks. Whilst sorting I
found quite a few sun damaged so just binned as I found them. But just had another
look at one and I don't think it is sun damage after all. It has totally
changed colour and completely consistent throughout. I would say this is the
same as the 'brittle blue' thing. Attached an image so show different
(photo doesn't quite capture it perfectly). Another one I'll add to
my ever-growing collection of weird Lego colours.

The color Dark Pink was changed around the same time that the new grays replaced
the old grays in 2004. So there are two true distinct shades of Dark Pink:

I have never been able to tell the difference with certainty. I have bought parts
that must be one of the two colors because of the date the part was made. There
is so much variation that I could not tell them apart.
