When LEGO tried to develop a larger brick for young children, they first experimented
with Jumbo bricks. Soon, these were replaced by the Duplo size we stil know today.

The LEGO designers tried several things, and as a result there are two very different
versions of the 2x4 Jumbo brick x1446.

Part No: x1446  Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
*
x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Jumbo Bricks

Samsonite verion
Best known is the Samsonite version.

These bricks were designed in Denmark using the metric system, but produced and
released in North America. A 1x1x1 brick unit size would be 25x25x25 mm, minus
(2 x 0,2 mm) tolerance taken from the ends to allow for building. The resulting
2x4 brick would be 50 x 100 x 25 mm minus a tolerance taken from the length and
with to allow for easy building. As a result, the actual 2x4 brick is 49,6 x
99,6 x 25 mm in size.

This is close to imperial (inch) based sizes, but it really is SI metric. The
height including the stud (and logo) is 30,3 mm. The stud diameter is 21,6 mm,
noticably larger than on the European bricks.

The Samsonite Jumbo bricks are generally known to "not work with any other
LEGO system", but in reality the size of these bricks IS exactly 5x the Modulex
system. The bricks themselves don't connect with each other though.

Samsonite Jumbo bricks were used in:

Set No: 041 Name: Pre-School Beginners Set
*
041-1 (Inv) Pre-School Beginners Set
24 Parts, 1964
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 042 Name: Jumbo Brick Pull Toy
*

9 Parts, 1966
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 044 Name: Jumbo Bricks
*
044-2 (Inv) Jumbo Bricks
30 Parts, 1969
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 105 Name: Pre-School Beginners Set
*
105-4 (Inv) Pre-School Beginners Set
24 Parts, 1964
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 300 Name: Jumbo Bricks
*
300-2 (Inv) Jumbo Bricks
30 Parts, 1972
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 14 Name: Jumbo Building Bricks
*
14-5 (Inv) Jumbo Building Bricks
60 Parts
Sets: Educational & Dacta: Jumbo Bricks

European version
Less known is the European version of the Jumbo bricks. This seems to be mainly
because they were made in smaller quantities and were available for a shorter
time.

The size of these bricks is exactly 3x the regular system. This seems to be a
later design idea, leading to the 2x system size of the later Duplo bricks.

A 1x1x1 brick unit size would be 24x24x28,8 mm, minus (2 x 0,2 mm) tolerance
taken from the ends to allow for building. As a result, the actual 2x4 brick
is 47,6 x 95,6 x 28,8 mm in size. The height including the stud (and logo) is
34,3 mm. The stud diameter is 17,9 mm, noticably smaller than on the Samsonite
bricks.

European Jumbo bricks were used in:

Set No: 501 Name: JUMBO Pull Toy
*
501-3 (Inv) JUMBO Pull Toy
9 Parts, 1966
Sets: Classic: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 502 Name: Pre-School Medium Set
*
502-2 (Inv) Pre-School Medium Set
8 Parts, 1968
Sets: Classic: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 503 Name: Pre-School Large Set
*
503-2 (Inv) Pre-School Large Set
16 Parts, 1968
Sets: Classic: Jumbo Bricks

Looking at the images (especially when you find better quality images of these
sets), the difference in relative stud size is recognisable.

Please separate part 99206 and. 4304.

Part No: 99206  Name: Plate, Modified 2 x 2 x 2/3 with 2 Studs on Side
*
99206 Plate, Modified 2 x 2 x 2/3 with 2 Studs on Side
Parts: Plate, Modified

*
4304 Plate, Modified 2 x 2 x 2/3 with 2 Studs on Side - Hollow Bottom Tube
Parts: Plate, Modified

Earlier this year, part 4304 was introduced. In our catalog it is seen aa an
altenative for 99206.

I think that New Elementary does a good job at describing why it is intentionally
functionally different.
https://www.newelementary.com/2023/08/lego-brickheadz-sonic-review-sets-40627.html

Looking at the images in the article, the bottom side is different so the parts
can be distinguished easily.

Because the part was recently introduced, it should be easy to correct the set
inventories, and hopefully there will not be many problems with store inventories
for recently parted out sets.

Two versions of the sticker for set 10269-1 exist. The difference is in sticker
number 2. The first version (58480/6270452) had a "MILWAUKE" spelling
error, the second version (69195/6312751) corrected this to "MILWAUKEE".

For the -a versions (with the MILWAUKE spelling error), we can use the current
catalog images for part 10269stk01 and 14769pb302.

I have uploaded an image for 10269stk01b.

I do not have a 14769pb302b (tile 2x2 with the corrected sticker).

Could someone with set 10269 or with part 14769pb302, please check the version
of their sticker, and upload a catalog image for the revised version?

Apparently, minifigure sh010 was released in two versions:
- with black lines on the torso, as shown in the catalog image of the minifigure;
and
- with green lines on the torso, as shown in the catalog image of the torso.

Minifig No: sh010 Name: Poison Ivy, Hair Over Shoulder
*
sh010 (Inv) Poison Ivy, Hair Over Shoulder
Minifigures: Super Heroes: Batman II

Part No: 973pb1107c01 Name: Torso Batman Poison Ivy Plant Foliage Pattern / Light Nougat Arms / Light Nougat Hands
*
973pb1107c01 (Inv) Torso Batman Poison Ivy Plant Foliage Pattern / Light Nougat Arms / Light Nougat Hands
Parts: Minifigure, Torso Assembly, Decor. {Lime}

Looking at the catalog images, it looks like this might be a difference between
production for the 2012 (green version?) and 2015 (black version?) sets, but
I cannot confirm that. Looking at the instructions, all use the same ElementID
so that would make it a variation and not a different part design.

If both versions of this figure are common (and I think that they are), I think
that the variations are so different that both should have their own catalog
entry. Is there a reason not to do this?

I do not have the required parts to do submit them to the catalog.

I recently posted a few images taken with my new USB-microscope-camera-toy. I
got several messages asking for additional information, so here is a quick review

I do not have any previous experience with digital microscopes, so I got frustrated
trying to find good information to make an educated choice. In the end, I just
got one of the “Best Sellers in Lab Handheld Digital Microscopes” (currently
listed #6). The main selection criteria became 1) price, and 2) the availability
of a vertical stand that provides the possibility to adjust height precisely
(using gear wheel on gear rack). So that was a bit of a “guess this will be good
enough”-buy.

Cost:
Digital microscope ~50 euro
Stand ~25 euro
I later found out that I could have gotten that stand for free if I posted a
5 star review on Amazon.

Positive remarks
+ easy to use
+ does what I want it to do
+ I can read the smallest LEGO mould numbers now, I am amazed at what LEGO can
do now.
+ the led lights are usually good enough to illuminate your subject

Negative remarks
- the 8 lights do reflect on the object and will sometimes be visible in the
captured photo
- comes without proper stand, the default is not good enough. Sold separately
(or free if…)
- No camera raw image capture, limiting the possibilities for later editing (maybe
different webcam software would help... I don't know if any is available.)
- The center of view is in focus, at distance there is some blurring and reduced
light. (Because the short focal length this is to be expected).
- A perfect vertical mount in the universal stand is difficult. Again, “good
enough”.
- I have mine connected to my computer. It does not come with it own software,
but uses the general camera software (like a webcam).
- There is colour adjustment in that software, some colours are difficult to
capture.
- I had some problems with the image freezing, replacing the provided cable with
a new one and adjusting the computer setting that allowed the computer to shut
down usb devices for power saving seem to have almost completely fixed the problem
- It should be possible to connect the device to my phone by WIFI, but I never
used it that way. It would use the wifi connection that also connects the phone
to the internet, and I don’t want to remove that automatic connection.

Resolution:
The captured image is 3840 x 2160 pixels (~8 MP in 16:9 aspect ratio).

Placing an object under the protective cover/shield, I can fill the image frame
with 1 cm. That 1 cm is captured with 3840 pixels (long edge of the image). Placing
the object within the cover, a bit more magnification is possible.

There is a second focal point, although it is more tricky to find which shows
approximately 2.85 mm to 3840 pixels (again, object below the cover). This means
that 0.01 mm details can be seen.

At the other end, moving the microscope up to increase the field of view, I can
take an image of a 2x4 brick. I guess the maximum would be about 35 mm width
(4 studs and a bit), but then the effects of the distance from the focal point
become clearly visible.

This captured digital image can then be displayed on your phone or computer screen.

When I worked in a printshop, we advised prints of 150 pixels per inch. (Then
the print will appear to be sharp under normal viewing circumstances, assuming
that the original image was sharp.)

3840 / 150 = 25.6
25.6 inch = 65 cm

So large screens or prints should be no problem.

Sample images
The captured images were taken at 3840 pixels, and then later scaled to 1000
for upload on this forum.

Wanted – 2011 Ninjago spinner parts

The 2011 Ninjago spinner sets used some common parts with alternative part numbers.
I am looking for those parts (in any colour) with those alternative part numbers
moulded into them.

Buying new sets would help me find these parts, but that gets expensive quickly.
I would buy used sets with these parts, but over time most of these parts have
been replaced by their regular versions (probably except the boat stud under
the turntable).

I am looking for:

Part No: 3022  Name: Plate 2 x 2
*
3022 Plate 2 x 2
Parts: Plate
with part number 94148

Part No: 87747 Name: Barb / Claw / Horn / Tooth - Medium
*
87747 Barb / Claw / Horn / Tooth - Medium
Parts: Animal, Body Part
with part number 93788, according to the catalog notes this will be
the “solid plastic” version instead of the “more rubbery” version.

*
4085d Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Open O Clip Thick (Vertical Grip)
Parts: Plate, Modified
with part number 93793

I do not yet know if parts 63965 and 4085d already had design numbers moulded
into them, or if the parts were to small for that at that time.

Part numbers 93787, 93789 and 93794 also fit within this range or part numbers,
but these do have their own catalog entry so they are easier to find

These parts were used in the following sets:

The Hinge Brick 1 x 2 Base is known to have been made with a mold assembly error,
causing one or two of the side plates to be reversed. The resulting hinge
does not work, but it is a fun oddity that I would like to add to my collection

Please add alternate item number 30499 to part 3684a.

Item number 30499 is currently only associated with part 3684. The 3684 catalog
entry is obsolete and will be marked for deletion once it is removed from all
inventories.

I have a few part 3684a (with hollow studs) with the part number 30499 moulded
inside. They have both the smooth/textured surface and both versions of the internal
supports. Parts made in mould 01 have a textured surface and has internal supports
on both sides of the center tube. Parts made in mould 03 have a smooth surface
and has internal supports on one side of the center tube.

The new Satin Trans-Clear 2x4 bricks use a new mould with part number 3556.

It looks like this is a new mould for transparent bricks, and I think that we
can expect more transparent brick now LEGO is using MABS plastic and the new
mould has been made.

The mould does not have cross-supports. I guess this will look better when building
with transparent bricks, but it could be confusing in our catalog. Should we
identify this as a 3001 or 3001old (or 3001-something-new), and why?

Someone told me that on February 1st, set 40655 "Discover Braille - French
Alphabet" was planned for release.

Does anyone have more information?
Was this set released recently? Or will it soon be?
Where might it be found?

Please undo the merger of the Play Day 2018 and 2019 bricks.

The 2018 bricks are printed single sided.
The 2019 bricks are printed double sided.

6427 Duplo Utensil Suitcase with Embossed Duplo Rabbit Logo on Front and Back
Parts: DUPLO, Figure Wear & Utensil

87075 Duplo Utensil Suitcase with Debossed LEGO Logo on Front and Back
Parts: DUPLO, Figure Wear & Utensil

Part No: 20302 Name: Duplo Utensil Suitcase with Plain Front and Back
*
20302 Duplo Utensil Suitcase with Plain Front and Back
Parts: DUPLO, Figure Wear & Utensil

Date used
Inside the suitcase there is the part number, the mold- and cavity number and
(C) 2008 The LEGO Group.

This suggests that this suitcase has been in use many years ago, but was never
included in the BrickLink catalog. I would guess that it was used after 6427
and before 20302.

The different shape of the suitcase handle might make it possible to identify
the different versions in set images.

Info on Brickset
The part number 87075 is not known in the LEGO replacement part database as seen
on BrickSet.
Looking at part 6427, a few of the images do show a square at the position of
the LEGO logo.

This suggests that 4624835 (Orange) and 4508202 (Red) might be the ElementID's
for this version of the suitcase. I do not consider it enough proof though.

This square is not visible on the thumbnail images for design number 20302

I just noticed this key chain in the catalog.
The current name is " 2 x 4 Brick - Satin Black Key Chain".
Should that not be "2 x 4 Brick - Chrome Black Key Chain"?
Or am I mistaken here?

I don't know what the current status is of the planned catalog color project,
but in preparation here is a photo of some pink parts.

The parts on the left are LEGO Light Reddish Violet. The parts on the
right are LEGO Rose. Both are called pink on BrickLink.

Rose is commonly called "Paradisa Pink" and is often sold as "Light Pink" on
BrickLink.

I am not sure if BrickLink's Light Pink actually exist. I suspect many are
misidentified.

Parts 35442 and 35449 were just added to the catalog. They are currently named
"Plate, Modified [size] with [amount] Flower Petals".

Part No: 35442  Name: Plate, Round 2 x 2 Gear 6 Tooth
*
35442 Plate, Round 2 x 2 Gear 6 Tooth
Parts: Plate, Round
[p=35449]

If you look at how these parts are used, then they are actually gear wheels.
Should the name not be "Plate, Modified [size] with [amount] Gear Tooth"?

Is part 3299miB really a Minitalia part?
It looks like a LEGO System part with split tubes from the 1970s.
