Hi

The replacement service for 'signed for' is called 'tracked 24 or
48' with our without signature which is insured up to £150 and costs from
£3.95 for 48 without signature.

To insure a parcel up the value of £50 for small parcels in the UK is now £12.95
[special delivery} with Royal Mail. Thats up from £4.65!! Reluctantly, I've
started using Evri. Since RM have gone into private ownership, prices have shot
up & the service down hill. One way to kill a business.

  Hi

Just a quick heads up for those sellers who may not have noticed (LIKE ME until
today !!) that since the beginning of April, Royal Mail have reduced the compensation
on 'signed for' postage DOWN from £50 to £20. The main option to provide
cover over £20 is to use the new 'tracked' service (now up to £150 cover).
This new service was supposed to be available at Post Offices from the beginning
of April but it's been delayed so the only way at the moment is use the online
'click and drop' service.

Cheers

I've used defendapack.co.uk since I started selling on BrickLink in 2010
they seem fairly competitive and quality and reliability have been good.

Hi

This is not a major issue but is quite irritating. If I have sent an invoice
to a buyer the system takes me back to the orders received screen (no problem),
if I then decide to send a message to another buyer immediately afterwards, when
the system automatically takes me back to the orders received screen I get this
message at the top

Oops! There was a problem processing your request:
Order #12345678: Payment status just changed before your updating' on a red
background.

The same happens if I change the status of an order and then send a message to
another buyer (slightly different wording). If I click 'orders received'
the message goes away.

Anyway of stopping this happening or is it a bug?

Thanks

Regards

Steve

Since the email went out there has been a massive backlash about this change.
I suggest everyone sends their concerns directly to BrickLink Admin (via the
help page) to make sure your voice is heard.

  Hello everyone,

As a platform, we have decided to take a hard look at some of the mold variants
that we are currently asking you to recognize. For sellers, more variants means
extra sorting and extra work while pulling orders, plus the issues that arise
from variant misunderstandings.

For buyers, excess variants mean that it's harder to assemble a wanted list,
find stores, and ultimately obtain the parts you are looking for.

I have put together a quick Help page to outline these proposed changes:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2625

Notice the date on this is coming up quickly (Feb 1), so I'm not giving a
lot of time for discussion. I'm aiming for about 1 week of discussion and
then we'll give sellers 2 weeks to adjust the descriptions on affected items
if they wish to retain the distinctions.

I plan to construct a full FAQ page with answers to all your questions. This
will serve to inform users about what was done here in February 2024, and also
help point the catalog in the right direction in the future.

To get started, I'll list a few here:

1. This sounds like you're dumbing down the BrickLink catalog to make
it easier for new users. Is that what is going on?

Not really. There are many, many other variants we expect people to sort and
care about. These ones don't really seem to matter much, and some of them
(e.g., the minifigure heads) actually cause problems for the catalog that cannot
be corrected otherwise.

2. What if I really care about a certain variant that is going away? Can I
still buy and sell that variant?

Absolutely! You can add notes to your listings to make them as "determined"
as you wish. Buyers can still search within notes for extra details, or they
can simply observe them as they browse listings.

3. How do I know which exact variants will be merged? I only see one example
in each category.

Please ask in this thread and I can be very specific. Usually we are talking
about a handful of parts and the printed versions.

4. Has a merge like this ever been done before?

Yes, there was a precedent - the Headlight Brick with Slot:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1016584

It was marked for deletion a few years ago and was finally merged last August.

5. Are these the only parts up for consideration, or are there other variants
that will be merged as well?

This is all for now. Based on how well this goes, we may elect to remove other
entries later. However, we will keep all functional variants and important cosmetic
variants.

Where there are TWO entries for mini-figures with a different stud head will
be used as there is 1) sometimes a big difference in price between the two variants
and 2) will the number of items of the 2 variants be combined and if so what
average price will be used?

That argument is a bit like saying to a library don't worry that a particular
titled book is a 1st edition, as long as you have the Author and Title, that's
fine.

Bricklink’s worst update I’ve ever seen. Completely removes the point of Bricklink
being a Lego Database.

This is a retrograde step, as well as degrading the BrickLink Database it will
cause disappointment for buyers looking for specific mould types particularly
for vintage sets, make MORE work NOT LESS for sellers and buyers sorting all
of this out with refunds etc AND reduce the value of certain parts (mostly mini-figures
with specific stud types) and loss of information as to EXACTLY what made up
certain sets.

PLEASE BRICKLINK DO NOT DO THIS - IT IS NOT NECESSARY

BIG RESPONSE SINCE EMAIL WENT OUT AGAINST THIS CHANGE

BrickLink is a DATABASE, there are different entries for GOOD reason, what we
are being asked to do is create our OWN entries by writing text in a description.
Also what about those parts 'like' minifigure heads that have a big
difference in value between a 'hollow' stud and a 'blocked open'
stud version (e.g. Star Wars heads), that will be lost and some sellers will
be out of pocket.

So somebody has decided that having a distinction between tiles with and without
grooves is UNIMPORTANT, well I can tell you IT IS, if I send one without a groove
to the majority of people I WILL GET A COMPLAINT. Nobody in the BrickLink community
(and those are the important people) has asked for this to be done.

Tried several times but kept happening, however I've just added postage to
a UK order OK (As expected) and then retried adding to the one from Germany and
it worked this time (looks like adding postage to a non-taxed order reset something
in the background). Interested if anyone else comes across this problem.

Might help if you could get one of the buyers to get a screen capture of the
error?

This is the first time anyone has reported this to me and I process hundreds
of orders a month, I understood if making payment by 'PayPal Onsite'
it should just work passing the amount, etc. to PayPal and then updating BrickLink
to say it's been paid. There is clearly a new problem somewhere between
BrickLink and PayPal processing here.

  Hi

I've had 2 buyers in the last few days report a problem when trying to make
onsite payment. They get an error message and told to 'return to merchant'
to arrange payment. One buyer also said he'd had similar problems with some
other stores, but not all.

I spoke to PayPal who said they can't see a problem at their end or my end,
anyone got any ideas or had a similar problems?

Hi,

Is it really an “error message”?

I remember the wording is a bit weird (“you need to return to merchant to (something
like finalize or is it arrange?) the payment”) but the buyer is, normally, sent
back automatically to BrickLink to click yet another button and finalize the
payment.

So, are they not understanding the message, or not waiting long enough, or maybe
the redirection doesn’t work?
In the last case, there should be a link/button to return to BL (I don’t remember
well, the automatic redirection is rather fast).

The ping-pong between sites may be a bit confusing….

This new system of collecting VAT by BrickLink (and other websites) is NOT working
and EVERYONE is losing business mainly due to the EU not doing their job properly.
I've followed ALL the rules using Royal Mail's electronic shipping systems
but EU buyers are still getting charged VAT again on arrival of their package.
The EU is only interested in adding more bureaucracy and making trade more difficult,
which has helped it into recession. I will not be selling to the EU again until
there is proof the systems are working properly; so probably never.

A month late here, but having just been hit myself with a double VAT, it's
important that not only the IOSS number is registered, but also that an HS number
is provided for all items declared - it will otherwise be rejected.

Basically, the postal service or courier will only avoid charging if the IOSS
entry is complete, and their system can handle all the paperwork automatically
- if a human is going to need to find the appropriate HS code, or any other manual
work, they'll just ignore the IOSS entry and do everything manually, and
charge appropriately.

That being said, if the customer has paid VAT when receiving it, BrickLink needs
to refund the VAT they collected. Who knows how to get that done.

For some reason I remember hearing it’s the other way around. If bricklink charges
tax and customs charges charges tax you need to do the legal stuff with the government
to get it back and it dosnt involve bricklink

First time with a VAT problem, don't know where to file for help.

US order, German customer, BL collected VAT, but customer had to pay again when
picking up the package. I'm sending him a copy of the VAT form that was on
the package.

Thanks for any tips.

I kept trying and eventually it worked, is this due to a timeout issue, although
when it didn't work the message came up almost immediately.

  Hi

I tried to refund a buyer that I'd completed the order on but the package
was returned to me 3 weeks later by Royal Mail and the buyer requested a refund,
however when clicking the 'issue refund' link on that order a page came
up saying 'this site can't be reached'.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks
