In my opinion, following the logic for instructions entries were we have width
x height x thickness the dimensions for flat boxes should also follow the
same logic and I would therefore suggest to make this: width x height x thickness
(of the flattened box).
Depth?

I have moved this message to another topic since there was nothing here that
a Catalog Admin can do.
Here is the help page for measuring boxes:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2510#EmptyBoxes
The help page refers to "thickness" of the flattened box, so I agree that it
should be changed on the form.

Can we change this? Otherwise sellers are going to sell either parts under either

The inventory on BrickLink was compiled from a sealed set and verified by at
least one other user from a sealed set. BrickLink has the most accurate LEGO
inventories anywhere.
The data on Brickset is retrieved from the LEGO replacement parts service, and
is very often incomplete or wrong.
And, when in doubt, you can always look for photos of a sealed set being opened.

come in the same bag, which I will attach in replies to this post.
I'm not quite sure which pieces match a couple of the descriptions, but I'll
let someone else figure that out.

Has there been any further discussion among catalog admins about this? I see
a note was added that the part appears in left and right variants, however, this
isn't really what a variant should be. Variants appear randomly and unpredictably
but with part 50018 each and every bag has distinct left and right parts that
are deliberately placed there by LEGO.
I would like to be able to sell this part without having to create two separate
lots for left and right.

We separated the left and right versions of these
that come in a multipack, so we can definitely separate the left and right versions
of those, also, if you would submit the entries and relevant images.
The new item numbers would be 50018gL and 50018gR.

After further investigation, there are only a few wedges that use the term "curved".
There are way more wedges that are curved that do not use the word "curved".
In my opinion, the term should only be used to differentiate a "non-curved" version

such as

Otherwise, a lot of other wedges should be renamed to be consistent. In fact,
to make the names consistent in either direction is going to create a good bit
of work due to all of the decorated versions of either set of parts needing to
be renamed (seven alone for the 11291 parts).
I will discuss this further with the team and we will decide on a direction to

I am back today after three wonderful weeks of fun, sun, hiking and biking!
To the OP, Jon is correct. Stickered counterparts always take a back seat to
everything else because they are very work intensive and do not provide much
value to the site. LEGO released more than 100 new sets over the last month,
so all of the new parts, new minifigures, and new inventories for those sets
are priority number one. We also have to keep up with the constant flow of change
requests. With the addition of the ability to enter packaging dimensions for
everything in the catalog, we have been swamped with change requests.

| Hello everyone,
In response to some voices we heard last year, we have released a tool to help
folks out with using the catalog macro tags in the Forum and system messages.
This custom macro is one of BrickLink's signature features, and you can see
them peppered everywhere in the Forum, particularly in catalog discussions.
A while back we introduced the ability to specify color for parts, and people
started using it even though they had to look up or remember the BrickLink color
number. The tool we released today helps with the lookup of the color and will
actually write the macro tag for you - no coding experience needed.
So today we were also able to mark a Forum suggestion as Implemented:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1215932
We also fixed a bug that wouldn't allow Gear macros to have color:
We also changed the logic to only show the color name when the author specifies
it. We did this because the default color can be changed by a catalog admin,
so we want people to use the macro color code if they are specifying a color,
even if the color happens to be the current default color.
Enjoy!

Oooooo! This is nice! I love it! 😁

| As far as things go on the catalog side, this is the guidelines we have been
given to help make things in the system work better for everyone:
- All parts start out as Weight Bound by default.
- Any parts that are 2cm cubed or larger should be set to Volume Bound.
- Any parts that have at least one dimension of 8cm or larger should be set to
Volume Bound.
- All flat parts should be Volume Bound, such as baseplates, sticker sheets,
and items in the Plastic and Cloth categories.
- Flexible parts should stay as Weight Bound, such as hoses, string, power cables,
and chains.
We are pretty quickly getting a lot of these things into place on the catalog
side so that individual stores will not have to deal with these things any longer.
As with all things, though, patience is required since the amount of packaging
settings needed in the entire database is quite large.

Randy

I keep trying to buy part 48729 but being sent 48729b - is there actually a difference
(except for a hole in 48729b) or can they be interchanged ??

Yes, the jersey piece is extremely shiny. The LEGO copyright information and

| Oops, didn't check that, thanks for letting me know.
BTW, what's the difference bt "pending approval" and "in progress"?
|
"In Progress" means that the inventory has been reserved to be inventoried. "Pending
Approval" means that the inventory is in the process of being completed and verified
by an admin.
Any images provided publicly by LEGO are able to be used here.
| I've never seen a cloth piece that has any number anywhere on it. They come
in little boxes, in the case of 41662, two different pieces in a box, with a
long string of numbers printed on the box, that has nothing to do with the item
names on BL...
|
A cloth piece can be assigned a part number immediately if the inventory for
the set that contains it has been made publicly available by LEGO. Then, you
just need to look it up through Brickset or through LEGO Bricks & Pieces.
If the inventory has not been publicly released, then BrickLink will assign a
'bb' number to it. This is a placeholder number for a part for which
the Design ID is not known.
The little cardboard sleeves and boxes that parts like this come in are listed
in the "Cardboard Sleeve" parts category:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogListOld.asp?pg=1&catString=1060&catType=P&v=2
These can be inventoried, also, so that buyers and sellers can know what comes
in them without having to open them.
Cheers,
Randy

Gear items do not have box entries, so there is no way to add it as a box. What

you with it.
All of this will be changing soon for these Game sets, though:

Part 24434 is listed as an alternate of 6183 however they are different.
In the image 24434 is in front, 6183 is behind. The curvature on 6183 is slightly
higher on either side so if you have a mixture of both parts the difference is
quite noticeable as they don't site "flush" with each other.
Thanks

Without having both on hand, is there a way to know which variant one has?
|
All 24424's have the number molded into the bottom of the part, so it is
easy to know you have that version. If it isn't molded with the number 24424,
then it is a 6183.

My daughter got them as part of a DOTS make and take event well over a year ago

The version with tan printing is
It was released in 2010 and has a Design ID corresponding to that time frame
(the latter 8xxxx and beginning 9xxxx were being used at that time).
The version with white printing is
It was first released in 2014 with the old mold number. Then, the mold was redone
and numbered as 47566 for use in the 2018 and 2020 sets.
All this to say, there is no way that the tan version would have ever had 47566
molded into it. Only the white version has the newer mold number.

Randy

Thanks for the info. Customer seems to think there is a third color print of
light gray and that the 47566 always has the light gray and the 87568 always
has the white. I asked for a picture of the piece I sent him next to the figure
he has but he never did.
|
Oops. My bad. I read "tan" in your original message instead of "light gray" since
I had just dealt with these parts a couple weeks ago.
The only thing I can think of is print density, then. The color white *is* printed
on dark bluish gray, so it will look light gray if not printed thick enough.
