The color code for Tan in the database is 2, and the color code for Trans-Clear
is 12. I think this was a data entry mistake when the inventory was created because
an alternate for it was added almost immediately (three days after approval of
the inventory). I have no idea why an alternate was accepted in the first place
instead of just correcting the inventory.
| | The 1x1 flower plates in my set are slightly darker than other dark pink parts (however I would still call them dark pink), maybe this is the reason why someone added them in light purple as an alternate. I don't have any parts in light purple for comparison at the moment, but since this part does not appear in any other set in light purple and there isn't even an image in the catalog, I doubt it exists in that color.

I fixed up the inventory with respect to the undetermined and alternate minifigures.
However, I have a strong feeling that some of those skeleton minifigures should
not be actual minifigures for the set.

I just parted out three of these sets and got 69 of these (23 in each set = 1 extra). On the other side, I only got 258 ordinary black pins (86 in each set = 1 extra). Could one black pin has been miscounted in the original set so there is actually only one extra of each of these two parts?

I would definitely expect there to be more than one extra black Technic pin in
a set that contains 85 of them.

This situation is difficult because it does seem that both of these mold types
were used in parallel over a substantial amount of time. It is also hard to determine
which one came first, although I have a strong feeling it was 30389c. The reason
for that is due to Jon's finding here:

That set would have been one of the first to use the part with an axle hole included,
and it is the only set to use the part in white.
I would say that we go ahead and switch the one in this set to 30389c based on
the fact that this is also a 2002 set and your data is factual.

Thanks Randy, also I didn't know that a Match ID was needed even if not part
in the inventory is matched.
|
We do that for a couple of reasons:
(1) If another alternate part is found in the set, it makes sure that the next
correct Match ID number is used instead of overlapping with the alternate part
just added.
(2) In the future, if the inventories get updated to make figures just another
form of counterpart assembly, then the individual figure parts will all get placed
in Regular Items section of the inventory. Once that happens, it will be easy
to see what parts of figures had alternate parts and need to matched up.

Although we usually say the instructions are definitive, that is not currently
the stated guideline. The guideline actually states, "A part with sticker applied
to it in a manner inconsistent with official LEGO set instructions or images
should not be added to the catalog."
That guideline has "set instructions *or* images" in it, not just instructions.
And that is the reason why the following case is in the catalog:
with
and
The first of those counterparts above shows how the stickers are applied in the
set instructions. The second set of counterparts (left and right) show how the
stickers are applied in official set images.
According to the guideline, this situation is acceptable because it shows the
stickers being used in two different ways in an official capacity, one from the
set instructions and one from set images.
So Reza definitely has a point here, and I believe the point to be correct. The
set instructions show the sticker applied one way, but the set images show it
applied another way. If we are to follow the guideline as it is written and maintain
precedent, then both of these scenarios that Reza shows are legitimate and both
counterparts should be in the catalog.
If we choose to ignore the guideline as it is written and ignore precedent (which
I am not in favor of), then the guideline needs to be rewritten and the second
set of counterparts for 41999-1 above need to be marked for deletion.

There seems to be a slight overlap in the variants within this theme, so we can
just leave them as is for now. If you nail down all of the other sets left with
these besides those two, we can probably change them at that time.

If you have instructions for a set that BrickLink lists as not being available,
you fill out and submit a Catalog Change Request to have an instructions entry
added to the set.

Instructions" and then select how many separate books/leaflets/etc. there are
for the set.

I tried to use the link you gave. There is not a "Number of Instructions" check
box. Also there isn't any way to upload a photo.

You don't need to change the number of instructions, because the set already
has an instructions entry. You just need to upload your image here:

Add a note when you upload it referencing this thread and the fact that it is
a replacement image for the current one.

Set 4105 was released at three different times:
The first version in 2002 started with the Creator branding and then transitioned
to plain branding. You can see the early style packaging if you look at the Original
Box entry for 4105-1.
So what you have there are the instructions that appeared in the earliest versions
of the set. Your image can be added as an additional image to the instructions
entry for 4105-1. You can submit the image here:

The set only comes with two of these to replace the black ones included with
when the two sets are combined to motorize the engine.
All of the other ones that look similar in the main set are brick built.

If they are already in the catalog, you would just fill out an Inventory Change
Request to add them to the set.
