Sure looks like modern Pearl Dark Gray, but I can’t find a unique production
number for this part in that color. How does it look next to other PDG parts?
|
Here it is next to several other PDG parts, as well as a few Dark Bluish Gray
and Pearl Light Gray parts
|
If I had to guess, i'd say it came from build a minifigure (BAM) in LEGO
stores. They sometimes produce unique colours not in sets and not picked up by
BL.
|
That sounds plausible, I forgot all about BAM.

Yes, my question is where this specific color (Pearl Dark Gray) came from as
it's not in the catalog at all. Perhaps it was an alternate possible color
in some sets and no one ever made note it?

* Add 1 Part 2780 Black Technic, Pin with Short Friction Ridges (Extra)
* Change {12 to 11} Part Black 2780 Technic, Pin with Short Friction Ridges
Comments from Submitter:
There are only x11 of these per instructions:
x1 on page 30 step 21
x2 on page 36 step 3
x2 on page 43 step 1
x2 on page 43 step 8
x4 on page 45 step 12
I am guessing the 12th one was an extra part, as this piece is often included as an extra and there are none listed in the extra section

I recently acquired this set used in the box, still has the papers and sails
sealed in a bag. It came with this leaflet and 8 extra bricks that are not in
the catalog entry. There is also a small comic book. Should all these items be
added to the catalog in some way?

The color looks a bit off to me, not sure whether that's within the normal
variation for reddish brown. Unless it's old brown
|
On top of that I just tried putting some feathers in it, they don't fit.....gotta
be a fake then

Hmm, suspicious, my first thought was it was real, because numbers do exist in
hats.
But the rim inside isn’t familiar to me…
But if it is a fake, it certainly looks the part.
Do you know where it came from?
|
No idea where it came from specifically, I received it in an order recently.

Concerning these two parts specifically in Dark Brown....
I recently acquired set 6073-1 complete in the box, and it looks barely touched
since it was opened. All the pieces are in like new condition and all the feathers
are still on the sprues and the pamphlet is even in the box. Curiously, the bows
and quivers are dark brown instead of the standard brown, or at least they appear
dark brown compared to standard brown parts I have.
While it is hardly proof that this is a possible source of these pieces in this
color, it's a pretty strong indication. I just thought some people might
find it an interesting find.

Hello! I'm not sticker expert, but my understanding is that every stickered
part in a set gets its own catalog entry, even if the exact same stickered part
is used in a different set. I'm not sure why this is or if this is the best
way to go about cataloging stickered parts, but if I understand correctly, that's
how it's done around here. Also, some of the stickered parts that you listed
are not the same. For example,
is on a 1 x 4 tile and has black Aurebesh characters on a yellow background,
whereas
is on a 1 x 3 tile and has dark red Aurebesh characters on an orange background.
So, these parts definitely do not need to be merged.
|
I've seen at least one exception to this, these two parts from Hidden Side
sets:
Various stickers sheets have the same stickers, though they are placed on identical
parts so they just have on entry. I think this is fine, though care should be
taken to make absolutely sure that the stickers are -exactly- identical and placed
on identical parts before considering a merge. Like you mentioned, some stickers
are similar though not identical.

string is easy enough to untie from my experience, but when it comes to the thin

I have found it nearly impossible to untie this string from parts without damaging
the string.
So the question is what parts would be considered an acceptable counterpart?
There are some assemblies I imagine may not be counted as so, such as the drawbridge
string in Black Monarch's Castle (The string is tied to two pieces with various
pieces caught up in the middle) and the hook string in a few of the vintage pirate
ships (this is often strung through one of the mast segments)
I have noticed a few parts that have counterparts listed already, such as these
pieces:
One part that I think should be listed as a stringed counterpart would be this
one:
|
Interesting question. I don't think there are any guidelines or limits at
the moment but maybe we could discuss that as part of the catalog project #10
(Define Part Assemblies).
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2476
We would need to adress some of the assemblies with strings anyway because they
sometimes include parts or colors which are not part of the regular items section
(because the assemblies often have multiple parts with N/A colors or undetermined
string lengths - see example below). Unfortunately we don't have much these
days to move on with anything as we are completely overwhelmed with new parts
and set inventories.
|
I have noticed that some of these assemblies are not really up to snuff, as you
said with no colors applied or undetermined string length....I will probably
try and add a few of these assemblies to the catalog if I own the set in question.
Some of them may need to be deleted at some point or their inventory changed
and applied as a counterpart to the correct sets.
I would only bother applying this to the thin string, I think.....I have never
had a problem untieing medium string, it loosens very easily with no fraying.

In the above video is a brand new set being opened, you can see the string a few times and I estimate its length to be about 17-20cm, which would make the 20cm string the correct part for this set.
