Hmm, which source it could be...?

The UCS set itself in sealed condition.

My remarks mention only that I could have made a mistake during building.

Hi Marek,

I am not sure, if the third one was included in bag 1 or 2.

"Normaly Lego add one extra of part 4073 per bag (of course there are exeptions
like in some 2017 sets)"

-- No, see my approved change request for Ship in the bottle, there were
5 extra light blue round plates included into this set, but only 3 bags with
these
plates. Two bags had 2 plates extra in each bag - and this set came out 2018...

Comments from Submitter:
3 are used in the building and 3 are extra parts.

One red 4073 is in one of bags numbered '1', two red 4073 are in one
of bags numbered '2'. Normaly Lego add one extra of part 4073 per bag
(of course there are exeptions like in some 2017 sets), so from this logic there
should be two extra only (part is in two bags). Here I also see only two extra
of this part https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/103774-review-10246-detectives-office/

So you found in your set one more extra red 4073 is this correct? Just want to
be sure

Marek

Many of seller have the problems here for older or rare sets that there are no
sales between last 6 month.
Therefore we should have a price guide for let say last 50 or less sales for
every product...

It will be good, when the requester will be able to do that by himself.

I have approved your requests and updated the inventory.

I hope sets not conforming to the chosen solution will be updated.

I believe in consistency, but for the time being no changes will be made to existing
set inventories. I have suggested a solution to management which will require
a bit of coding, but should result in a more accurate reflection in inventories
of this type of situation.

IMHO that's a better way to do it. I hope that a decision will be made on

Could someone help me out, how I can make an alternate for an extra part?

In this case there are 3 regular parts and 1 extra part.
I wanted to add 2 new alternate entries, with quantity 3 as regular parts and
quantity 1 as extra part, but for the extra part I am not able to set the match
ID...

Thanks Mauro

1. On the last page of the instructions, three light gray 1x2 bricks (3004) are added to the picture. The image on the box (in the center of the frame) shows they are for dropping down the ladder slide. Currently BL inventory shows 12. Should be 15.
2. In building up the set, there are only two brown 1x2 plates (3023) used. One more for the horse equals three. Peeron inventory also shows only three. Currently BL inventory shows four.

Very good eye, sir. I have confirmed the above changes with the online instructions
at Brickfactory:
http://www.brickfactory.info/index.html

I just want to check with 1977_mauro first before approving the changes, since
he was the last to adjust the inventory and he typically works from sealed sources.
This may be a case of multiple versions of instructions. Thanks for bringing
this to our attention.

Please recheck first of all the extra black bricks, they come from 5th or 6th
polybag - in my eyes there was no mistake from my side during building but I'm
not 100% sure.

Good idea, this would mean less fee money for BL but in this way they would save
money for 'professional' inventory employees...

In Suggestions, StarBrick writes:
As this is still a community build and moderated site, all efforts by members
to improve the site, listings, behaviour of members etc, should result in a discount
on fees to be paid.

Bricklink should have a program that rewards members who:
- catalog contributions
- image improvements
- price guide corrections
- listings corrections
- adding help files/video's/translations
- .....

At this day, only BAD behaviour is santioned (NSS, NPB's, site and forum
bans etc....). Let us not emphasize the negative behaviour but reward the positive
behaviour.

  Hi all,

I've had this idea some time ago and didn't see a reason why it shouldn't be
possible: Why isn't Bricklink opening an 2nd PayPal Account in Europe, to let
the sellers pay directly in Euro and to save losses
a) due to the bad paypal conversion rate and
b) due to higher paypal taxes for international transactions
As a lot of sales is done in Euro it would be a very good opportunity to let
the european sellers pay their fees in Euro.

Of course I'm aware of the fact that BrickLink needs his money in USD, but i
suppose it would me more rentable to let the sellers pay in Euro and to exchange
the money by the bank exchange rates.

As a seller I got to handle this problem by letting people pay in USD, so I can
use that money for BrickLink fee payments. Nevertheless I suppose that other
sellers from EU accepting just Euro have to pay the bad conversion rate paypal
gives them (if not paying directly by credit card in USD, of course). But in
fact this suggestion should be of use especially for BrickLink itself.

I'd like to know what you are thinking about this.

Best regards
Andrei

Hi Andrei,

the idea should be considered. The investment mother company of BrickLink has
operations in Belgium so they could then also offer to pay BL fees for EU members
in Euro with SEPA.

This saves EU members to convert into USD and saves 5 % paypal Fee.

kind regards,

Stefan

Sold out doesn't always mean retired. It might be sold out in one market,
but still available in other country. Lego might make another production run.

They won't.

So I assume at all it is not such easy as you describe here from logical point

Mauro

I think you misunderstand my suggestion. I am NOT asking for automated notices.
My suggestion is an alternative to the automated notices people have been requesting
for years.

Under my suggestion, the system does not have to "remember" anything. It is not
automated. Instead, the seller goes to this new page and manually enters the
numbers of those sets he has recently parted out(1). The system will then tell
him which of those sets had their inventories changed and how. This information
is already in the system. This page just makes it easy for the seller to get
that information at one time for all sets they ask about. He does not have to
separately check each set or manually sift through hundreds of approved inventory
change requests.

As an additional step the seller could then ask the system to show if any of
those changes affect the seller's current inventory. During this second step,
the system would compare the listed changes (if any) with the seller's inventory
and tell the seller if he should have more or less of something in stock.

Thor

(1) If you want to put a time limit on this inquiry, OK. But I don't see
why the system could not tell you if a specific set had its inventory changed
even from two years ago. When entering the set numbers he wants the system to
check, perhaps there could be a drop down box asking the time period for the
system to check. E.g. Past 90 days, since the last check by this seller, or since
the set was first inventoried and added to the catalog.

What would you base the decision on? All I can think of, without placing another
order with them, is feedback.

Presumably the seller had reasonable or decent feedback when you least favorited
them (otherwise why did you buy from them?) so why would decent feedback change
your mind six months later?

An easy example:
Maybe you least favourited them for having some kind of fees you don't agree
with. (PP fees, lot limits/fees, whatever.) In that case you might want to take
a look at their store sometime later whether they have changed their policy.

People least favourite stores / stoplist folks not only for having a bad experience
with a transaction but for other non-business reasons, too. Like because of forum
posts.

Not only a selling mistake leads to least favourite store.

I can remember that I have mentioned that it does not make sense that states
get their customs fees from buyers who buy a very seldom LEGO set from outside
their country because it is not available in their country. They haven't another
option to get it so it is not right for me (but it is right for regular sets
which are avilable in all countries).

After this one user has listed me as least favourite store...

And perhaps this user thinks now the same as me after he has paid a lot of custom
fees for a very seldom set...

I don't know how it works for others, but if a seller makes a mistake, I give
them a chance to rectify it. That is their second chance. If they rectify it,
then it is fine and I'd buy from them again. If they refuse to act when given
a second chance, then I see little point in giving them another chance for my
custom later. They've already had a chance to rectify a problem and refused.

I have not said, give him the second chance to make something wrong in your store
immediately after it occured the first time.
I have mentioned, let the time go ahead and after one year or two years give
hiom another chance.
As an example there were some very experienced users that had some problems at
the beginning of the BL carrier. And some of us will never buy from them again
even they are now better then our positives...

  Hi all,

I see one big problem. When you have marked a store as your positive favourite
store ther eis a big chance that you remove it from the positives when you have
bought something again and it was not ok in your opinion. So you can say the
check for positives is recurring.

For the negatives it lookes different - one time negative, allways negative.
The reason is that you have never again a check if such a store has improved
because you will never buy from it again...

In my opinion there should be a check after one year or another longer time where
you can confirm or refuse that this shop is a negative one for you.

Mauro

Tell if I wrong.... the least favored is aimed to remind one that he didn't like
the way a seller had dealt with his order. Then it's supposed to avoid to take
the risk to buy another time from this shop and get un-happy with your order.
Then, your suggestion it to encourage people to take the risk that the least
favoured option try to prevent them to take. Is it logical ?

Then, a reminder in the "MybrinckLink" popping up every 6 month( as an example)
telling you something like "you least favored X shop, have a look if you want

You have made one mistake here:

"There are a lot
  of restaurants near me"

Sometimes not, sometimes your least favourite sellers have the set you wish since
a long timer but you even don't know it...

In Suggestions, mabccc writes:

I've only had a couple of problems in the past. When I don't want to buy from
someone again, I don't want to buy from them ever again. Same thing in the real
world with restaurants, hotels, etc. If they were bad one time, why bother giving
them a second chance? Especially a second chance after a fixed time period. Why
wait a year and not just a week?

Restaurant is a great example- a year later could be a different experience.
You might at least be tempted to stop and look if you drove by, right?
But with a store on your Least Fav list, you'll never even see it.
This makes up for that.

No. Unless I saw an "under new management", I wouldn't bother. There are a lot
of restaurants near me, and there is no point going back to a bad one. That is
similar to BL, there are a lot of stores and if someone is so bad to mark them
as least favorite on one occasion, I wouldn't go back.

But if anyone wants to give a second chance, it is of course possible. Just date
the least favorite comment and manually remove the block later.

Yes, it is logical, because people change, the world change, and also experience
can change...

I see one big problem. When you have marked a store as your positive favourite

check for positives is recurring.

I don't really see the point. If I don't want to buy from somewhere/someone,
I won't buy from them. Having to confirm that I still don't want to buy from
someone would be annoying. There is the manual solution that you check your (least)
favorites list regularly and choose to give a store a second chance if you want.

You'd probably also want to do the same for sellers lists of unwanted customers.
If you have previously banned someone from your store would you really want to
have to confirm they are still banned some time later?

Otherwise a scammer could come back after one year having previously a lot of
negatives and could make his 'business' again...

Again, that is not right what you say.

No one is happy about the fees from PayPal and nobody is satisfied to get only
the 96% of the money. But sometimes this is the cheapest method for international
orders (USA to Europe or vice verca).

Beside this PayPal has the advantage that the seller gets the money immediately
so the fees are ok in my eyes... This is a service where the seller pays for
which a bank cannot fullfill...
When you pay via IBAN I get 100% but I'm waiting for the money several days.
In these days I could make further profit with this money...

Nevertheless I'm also against all fees...

as paying with I ban is giving you more than what the order is worth (since you(re
ok as well with 96% of the grand total...).

Furthermore, you indicate that buyer should read the your full terms...... on
your splash page.... isn't that in accordance with BL terms? Are you hidding
something there that you don't want buyers to know about ? (I didn't checked,
just underlying that you use some freedom, then way other couldn't had some freedom

I buy very few sets on BL - because I am not buying discontinued sets, only snagging

So parts of that £900 approx £100 was spent here, buying from other sellers,
the other £800 + went to TLG direct.

Which means that's £800 in lost sales to B/L and about £32 in "commission" B/L
would have received.

One seller lost a £70 order (and we "fell out") because I baulked at being ripped
off

I used to buy all my parts here, but little by little I got tired of all the
BS charges, even if TLG are more at least I know exactly what I will pay!

Just a small fish granted, maybe (rogue) sellers don't care as there are plenty

When it comes to selling, parts should be priced correctly to include all the
costs of selling, those "rogues" with all their extra's are skewing the sales
average by I would say at least 5%, likely more - which means that honest sellers
are loosing.

I don't see any way the costs per order should exceed an average of 50¢

Niemand, let it away with: "I tried to keep the shipping cost as low as possible"

Why to do so? State clearly in your store terms the prices for shipping.
When you are able to send something cheaper - refund it, the customer will be
happy.

But me as buyer, I allways want to know the prices BEFORE checking out...

And it is not difficult in my eyes, when the bricks are 300g, then they are around
450g with the parcel and then you can take the money for a 500g shipping.

If it depends on countries then you can also state this, again, exactly as Ebay...

Mauro

I don't take any fees for PayPal and don't include it in my prices as then my
prices would be higher than they are...

The problem here is the camparision problem, during buying at Ebay you know the
shipping price and also at all other buying portals you know it before...!!

(Also when you buy parts at S&H!!!)

And it should be also possible to know it here before buying as we have the weights
for the most pieces/sets here...

And all handling fees belong directly to the part prices and when one seller
says: "I need the handling fees because the buyer bought 150 lots..:", then I
will answer: "Be happy that you have sold such many lots...!"

Mauro

From my experience, many portal are dedicated to one store, or used standard
shipping method. Then it's easy to tell about different cost. But since I tried
to keep the shipping cost as low as possible (I like bricks, not shipping service
), I may use different shipping methods, depending of many factors including
the payment method. The French post cost pdf is 4 pages, and the parcel dedicated
service 2 pore pages.... Then I quit sure BL could manage this for every country.
Then the only way to get the best price before ordering is stil to ask before
ordering.
The same way, when I need some special professional services (plumber, builder...)
, I ask a cost estimate first

And as you referred to other on-line business, many ask to registered as "pro"
or individual. Then the point you underlined about handling, I will completely
agree with you for non-pro. And in another hand, for pro I understand that this
fees are strongly linked to the order specification. Then standards price are
not completely fair...

You mention 'I think that if I pay through IBAN, I will pay fees (and a service)

I really don't understand what you mean.
Paying in a € country as France is means IBAN payments are free for both buyer
and seller. So, no fees for both, opposite to Paypal that charges seller +/-
3,5% and a fixed amount of about € 0,35. Also, what service (as I read well)
IBAN payment gives is it you don't need or want? I think all services given by
a payment method or a seller are requiered.

It is also very hard when I look on the price guide and assume that the Euro
listed prices are from Europeans and the $ prices from non Europeans, but there
are still $ prices from European sellers.

So in such case an option would be great to show ALL European prices and let
the non Europeans away. This was one point he has mentioned.

that Bricklink is 'worldwide' and many of ths stores accomodate that, however
having the ability to look at your regions pricing would be very useful.

What do you mean? Charge your customers different prices for your items depending
on their location?

--
Marc.

I think I refers to the price guides - some regions of the world tend to have
lower prices than others, a phenomenon I have quite often encountered as a buyer.
Several times, I had to carefully calculate the trade-off between a higher shipping
cost for lower part prices versus the opposite. I can imagine this discrepancy
can be even more frustrating to a seller attempting to price items in a market
that significantly deviates from the worldwide BL average.

Rob why me?

Ask the other 50% the BL users for the reasons...

I have been asked several times from USA users to send the PayPal as personal
payment.
We have no such options so I had no the option to break the laws for this...

But such questions and others similar to this one happen often here. So I think
that such a suggestion will not help to prevent such questions.

But in general I understand that countries need taxes for several projects and
I pay them without beeing angry as I know it. But laws are not allways fair and
when the laws are not fair then the people are not willing to follow it.

As an example in Germany: It is not fair that you pay 46% of your earned money
to the country as taxes and for health organization and so on but when you go
to the dentist then you have to pay between 25 - 100 Euro for a white plomb!

This means that not only 5% of BL users want it but almost the half (in my opinion).

So it does not make a big sense in my eyes...

Beside this, I can understand the people.

The custom taxes are there to protect the own market against foreign influence.
This is great and makes also sense for new LEGO sets.

BUT:

It does make NO sense for very old sets that exists ONLY in a foreign country.
From this point of view the buyer has no chances to buy it from his own country!
So what does the customs here protect??? Nothing and in this case the people
pay the tayes for nothing!

And I would say that in most cases people are buying sets from foreign countries
not because of cheaper prices but because of missing them in their own states...

Mauro

So, you are in favor of violating laws? You are in faovor of unfaair trade? You
are unwilling to deal with your own government's use of taxes, so you suggest
simply undercutting the system under which you live?

Laws are not suggestions...

In Suggestions, Rob_and_Shelagh writes:
This suggestion is a summary of my recommendations, plus input from others' many
private messages I received on this over the last few days that I would like
Admin to consider in the site upgrade.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION:-

The BrickLink site has always required its' members, both buyers and sellers,
to trade legally and fairly. This is an essential aspect of the site's reputation
which makes it an attractive venue for buyers and sellers to trade here with
confidence and safety. The continued success of the site and enjoyment of it
experienced by its' members both depend heavilly on this being maintained.

The site continues to grow rapidly and welcomes many mew members, both buyers
and sellers every day. The financial success of the site has indeed secured its'
future beyond the loss of its' inspired founder. In the early days, this site
was a small community and the founder members and early adopters clearly did
a great job in building the principles of the site and policing it in a self-regulatory
way. For the most part this still works today but, as is demonstrated in the
many threads recently, some (buyers and sellers) are falling short of those principles
and indeed the law! This may be driven by the vast increase in membership which
makes this place less "personal" for some and combined with this; the laws and
regulations covering internet trading become more and more complex as governments
focus on the explosion of such trading and their need to close tax loopholes
and try to protect their consumers from substandard trading and scams.

I believe the site and ALL its' members (except for any that come here to do
unfair or illegal trading) will benefit from a more developed policy on safe
and legal trading for both their own protection and for the reputation of the
site in general which should help promote its' continued growth and success.

The following suggestions are simply my thougths on "how" some of the issues
might be addressed taking into account the direct input I have had from several
other members as well as many forum threads over the years but some recent ones
in particular:-

SUGGESTION #1 - EXPAND ON THIS IN TOS:-

TOS #11 REQUIRES the following.

"General Compliance with Laws:
You shall comply with all applicable laws, statutes, ordinances and regulations
regarding your use of our service and your listing, purchase and sale of items."

Whilst this "covers" the site in demonstrating to authorities its' intent not
to encourage illegal behaviour, in practice it does little or nothing to:

1. Help inform its' members about what those laws might be and where to find
out about them. Many of the problems here (for buyers and sellers) are caused
by a complete lack of knowledge on the relevent laws.

2. Provides no penalty for breaking them which unfortunately is the reason why
some of the intentional law breakers are comming here.

I suggest changing the TOS #11 to spell out some of the specific laws that members
need to comply with, namely:

Customs - sellers are required to complete customs documents as required by law
honestly and accurately which, for the purpose of selling here, means declaring
the sales value of the goods as stated on the invoice and NOT misprepresenting
commercial sales as gifts.

Compliance with local advertising, selling and consumer protection laws - sellers
are required to comply with all relevent laws applicable to their selling activities.

Taxation - prior to listing any items for sale, sellers are advised to check
the rules in their country relating to any taxation they may need to charge their
customers (e.g. sales tax, VAT as applicable) and any requirements to declare
to their tax authorities any sales activity they conduct on this site.

SUGGESTION #2 - MAKE CUSTOMS FRAUD A REPORTABLE OFFENCE:-

Just as we can report listings that do not comply with the TOS, have a similar
funtion where:

1. Sellers can report (with evidence e.g. private message) to Admin that a buyer
requested a fraudulent customs declaration.

2. Buyers can report (with evidence e.g. private message or something in sellers'
terms) that a seller is offering a fraudulent customs declaration.

3. If a penalty is given, just like an NPB or NSS, a buyer or seller can have
feedback removed if it was given in relation to a transaction subject to the
penalty.

4. A buyer or seller has the right to cancel an order without penalty if subject
to a validated request for customs fraud.

Validated reports would result in a penalty ranging from 1st warning, through
temporary suspension of buying or selling rights, to membership termination for
repeat offenders.

SUGGESTION #3 - HAVE A HELP GUIDE ON SAFETY AND THE LAW

Which members have to declare they have read before they can buy or sell on the
site.

Unlike eBay which has legal resources in many of its' markets, BL has a central
Administration which cannot be expected to be expert on these matter in all geographies.

Perhaps we cound have voluntary "country Admins" for this purpose who would be
responsible for maintaining content with an opening statement relevent to their
market and a number of (official government only) links to any laws relating
to internet buying and selling in their country and the official taxation and
customs sites for their country. This must have a legal disclaimer saying these
Admins and the site are not giving legal advice and it is the ultimate responsibility
of the individual member to ensure he/she complies with all applicable laws.

SUGGESTION #4 - HAVE SOME FUNCTION TO PROMPT BUYERS WHEN BUYING INTERNATIONALLY
-

When you put something in a cart of a store not in your country, you are prompted
to look at a page that says something like:-

"You are about to purchase from a store located outside of your country, you
are advised to check if you may be liable for any customs charges relating to
importing this item into your country WHICH ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY before committing
to this purchase. Purchasing from overseas may also limit your rights as a buyer."

Obviously, this needs some more thought! I would not want this message for EVERY
item I put in a store cart, maybe just the 1st one for example. Maybe give an
option "do not show this message again" after a couple of hits on it within a
certain time period.

SUMMING IT UP FOR ME:-

None of this changes anything that is not the intent of the current TOS.

It is not to differentiate between "private" or "business" sellers for any purpose
of promoting one above the other, although for UK at least and many EU countries,
Gareth's suggestion on that would help keep sellers on the right side of the
law so I still support that too. There does seem to be some differences of definition
on that between countries which would need to be addressed further.

This is intended to HELP buyers and sellers comply with their laws and avoid
some of the risks many are taking now through ignorance of them. Being reported
for falling foul of a law or being caught not complying with it in most cases
carries penalties that most people would be pleased to avoid if given a chance
and informing them better simply helps to avoid that possibility

I would be happy to do more work on this if required as I am passionate about
keeping this a safe, respected place with trading standards that we can ALL be
proud of and enjoy.

CONGRATUALTIONS YOU GOT TO THE END OF THIS POST -

Thank you very much for your time!

Robert

You can also list a set as NEW & COMPLETE. This INCLUDES also the box!!!

When it should be listed separetly as USED then it would make no sense for the
whole set to declare it as NEW & COMPLETE.

I understand you that you say that an open box is open and used but because of
my explanation above I tend to have no condition for boxes.

Definitely NO, boxes should have NO condition.

When I part out a set and remove polybags from it then my boxes are looking like
new and were NEVER used... Otherwise you would have to to declare parts also
as used because of sorting...

Therefore REMOVE the condition for boxes...

Not quite, this is a separate issue from parts. Parts state and condition are
covered in 102 http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=102

This is about the box, which in my opinion is only new when still sealed and
filled with a set. How can it be new if you opened it.

Not good, another suggestion, we get 2 checkboxes for sets, one for included
box and another for included instructions...

In case that user does not flag one of them the status goes automatically to
COMPLETE...

Caveat: I understand the value of warning the community about systemic abuses.

Suggestion: When we notice a listing that seems wrong -- we should try to contact
the seller first before bringing the listing in question to the public forum.
Firstly I think it will resolve the issue quicker, secondly I believe that the
listing seller will appreciate it more.

Also, use the Problem with Item Listed for Sale page

http://www.bricklink.com/problemInventory.asp

Give the Admin team a chance as well.

After 48 hrs or so -- if no response has been received and the offending listing
has not been removed -- then bring it to the forum for pitchforking/torching

What'cha think?

Yes David, this is what I have mentioned, this would help a lot of people here..

I believe the point he was trying to make was to show the last 50 sales for those
items that don't sell often enough to be useful on the "last 6 months" sales
averages. All other items would follow the typical last 6 months sales.

Many of seller have the problems here for older or rare sets that there are no
sales between last 6 month.
Therefore we should have a price guide for let say last 50 or less sales for
every product...

Cheers

Only 50? The black brick 1x2 would reach that number within a few hours.

I'm afraid that is not going to work....

It will if you make it the last six months OR last 50 sales, whichever is greater.
