I was the kind of person that never wanted instant checkout to be implemented
here in BL. I thought it would bring problems, overpaying or underpaying,
and also would stop a way of communication with my buyers. I really like to communicate
with them.

However, I was recently invited to test out another Lego selling website that
is under production. This site in particular has instant checkout implemented.
Well, after receiving an order today... I was thoroughly impressed by how well
it worked.

When setting up your store, it requires you to add your shipping methods, either
by weight bands or price bands. On countries where you have dimension limits,
that could be hard to implement. Anyways, after some thinking, this would be
my solution.

First, the simplest things would be to add weight ranges from the cart (you'd
need to weight your envelopes/boxes) and add the price. In example, if my bubble
envelopes weight less than 20 grams, I'd add a shipping band from 0-75 grams,
and put the price for under 100 grams. Or, if my boxes weight about 150 grams,
I'd put another band from 450 grams to... 750 grams, for under 1 KG!

That is the simple part, now let's get to restrictions or special needs.
I'm not sure about restrictions on other countries, but here the restrictions
are not too harsh. For them, and special bulky items, my solution would be to
have a special intern mark in the catalog, so the system knows they are bulky.
For example, let's say I'm adding a raised baseplate to the catalog,
another field could be if it's bulky or not. Bulky could be considered over
2 centimeters high on all three dimensions, or something like that. Yes, it
would
require some work to be implemented in the actual catalog items, but with this
community's help, it would be easily done. You could also make differences
between big bulky items, such as raised baseplates, or semi-bulky items, such
as some panels. A raised baseplate would make a difference in my shipping costs,
but not a panel, normally.

Now, with the mark, what it would happen is, you get a special option on your
shipping methods to see if your store "cares" for bulky items. I mean, when the
system is making the shipping price to give it to the buyer, it would detect
that his order has bulky items, and then, predefined by the seller, you could
get two different options. Either the seller could establish new rates for bulky
items, or the make the buyer request a regular invoice, so the seller can calculate
the shipping cost.

Solved the restrictions problem. Now on to fees. All fees should be noted up
front, anyways. It's easy to automatize lot limits/fees, packing fees, etc.
The seller would be required to add them, and the system would add them to the
order and show them to the buyer along with shipping prices, before checkout.

Lastly, I would make automatic checkout, at least in the beginning, an option,
not a must. I'm sure many, many sellers would implemented, and those that
feel that they can't, just would not. Probably the former would be small
stores who cannot afford to loose 2$ on shipping and that. That way, you'd
make everyone happy.

On another note, I would automatize fees as a priority, and that cost should
be noted up front before checkout, even if you don't have instant checkout,
as you don't need postage to calculate them.

After this, and having all fees noted up front, postage should always be real
PO cost.

I hope you made it to the bottom of the page, as it was hard for me to write
this long thing.
I you have any more ideas, I'd love you to post them, or to refute my ideas,
that is what the forum is for. I posted is as a suggestion as it is how I'd
like the system to work, or how I think it would work the best. Lots of ideas
in my head!

Cheers,
Gerald

Currently, when shopping, if you run across an item that needs to be reported
for one problem or another, it is a multi-step process to do so. I would like
to propose a simple "report this item" button be implemented so that simply clicking
it will take you to the "problem with item for sale" section, bring with it the
lot number from the item and when you have submitted the item, have a button
to bring you right back to where you left off so you can finish shopping.

Too often things do not get reported due to the current reporting process. A
one click reporting button with a simple return to previous page button would
be wonderful.

The only way I know of to report offending items is as follows...
1) find listing
2) roll mouse over picture of the listing
3) write the number down
4) find the problem report page, and enter the number

Please find a way to make this process easier. This is even more annoying when
after all that, the item has already been reported .

Rant:
I am tired of looking in stores to find Minifigs that are missing parts -- Particularly
Feathers and Plumes from Castle Minifigs -- frequently the most expensive part.

Suggestion:

A) Add complete/incomplete to minifig listings -- this might be too large of
a change - not sure how hard this would be.

OR

B) Make a rule that ALL minifigs MUST be complete as inventoried. Otherwise
they should be listed as their component parts.

OR

C) Make a rule that ALL incomplete minifigs must have the phrase INCOMPLETE included
in the comments so that they can be excluded from searches somehow.

Above the [Submit Order] button, when placing an order in a store, is the "legally

Funny, I wonder how long it's been there?

I looked through the open catalog requests and there doesn't seem to be one
for this. It could be a site development issue, but I'm not sure so I'm
making it a catalog request.

Currently BrickLink uses an unholy mix of the following numbers for books:

BL numbers:

Book No: BioCMN Name: BIONICLE - Challenge of Mata Nui
*
BioCMN BIONICLE - Challenge of Mata Nui
Books: Story Book: BIONICLE

13-digit ISBNs:

Book No: 9780439501200 Name: Bionicle Collector's Sticker Book
*
9780439501200 Bionicle Collector's Sticker Book
Books: Sticker Book: BIONICLE

10-digit ISBNs:

Book No: 3499609053 Name: Die LEGO Story - Der Stein der Weisen by Margret Uhle
*
3499609053 Die LEGO Story - Der Stein der Weisen by Margret Uhle
Books: Informational Book

TLG website numbers:

Book No: 5002889 Name: DC Universe Super Heroes Batman Visual Dictionary
*
5002889 (Inv) DC Universe Super Heroes Batman Visual Dictionary
Books: Informational Book: Super Heroes: Batman II

LEGO Education website/catalog numbers:

Book No: 2009723 Name: Cities and Transportation Activity Pack
*
2009723 Cities and Transportation Activity Pack
Books: Curriculum Activity Book: Educational & Dacta: MINDSTORMS

Item numbers printed on the item:

Book No: 4218234 Name: BIONICLE - Rahkshi Informational Card
*
4218234 BIONICLE - Rahkshi Informational Card
Books: Informational Book: BIONICLE: Rahkshi

TLG identifying item numbers:

Book No: 226 Name: Idea Book 226
*
226 Idea Book 226
Books: Idea Book

and Thor knows what else I've missed. This makes the Books section of the
BrickLink catalog confusing and difficult to navigate or work on (as evidenced
by someone recently submitting several books which already had catalog entries).
I've been told that alternate item numbers aren't allowed for books.
Fine, let's change that. Some books have alternate item numbers and should
be searchable and findable by any of those numbers.

There are 3,000 books in the catalog and volunteers willing to do a little work
to make those entries more complete. It won't be so easy if we wait to add
the alternate item number field until we have two or three times that many books
(or more) in the catalog.

Thank you for considering this request.

When examining a part on a catalog page, in a specific color, and then clicking
on "Add to My Inventory", pass the previously selected color to the add page
as the initial setting.

If you are looking at a specific color, odds are that is the same color you wish
to list, and will save one step on many many part listing specifications. Doing
this in no way prevents changing to a different color.

When shopping using the auto-finder, the result shows a percentage indicating
how much the part is cheaper or more expensive than some unknown average.

Since the exact calculation is unknown, this value is without meaning. We do
not know if it compares to averages sold or offered for sale, nor if those
averages simply take the max/min values of the quantity average. Also, there
are indications that the price calculated when the item condition (used/new)
is set to "all", or if the color is set to "any" that some average between all
those is calculated.

In my opinion, this is VERY misleading.

For example, there are very good reasons why a 30 year old new part is much more
expensive than a used one, or why a MISB set is more expensive than an incomplete
used one, or why a part in a very rare color is more expensive than the same
part in a common color. Comparing these as if they were the same item is wrong.
It will show genuinely valuable items as being overpriced, and common used items
as discounted. This is very unfair to the sellers that bring unique and rare
items to BrickLink. As a buyer, without fair comparison the value shown is meaningless
but that knowledge will be restricted to experienced buyers only. Inexperienced
buyers might feel misguided, cheated and/or scammed. We should not want that.

In making the price comparison the part should be compared to parts that are
actually the same. This means they should have an identical part number (including
version), condition (used/new, complete/incomplete/MISB/etc) and color. The calculation
should also use the quantity average because otherwise the calculation can de
be easily manipulated by listing a single item with a very high price. Finally,
by preference the prices of items sold should be used. Those are a much better
indication of what buyers are actually willing to pay and the actual value of
the item, and also it reduces the effect of items that are priced extremely high
or incorrectly (typing errors, new users testing their store, etc).

Please update the calculation where needed,
and provide a description of the formula in the help files.

Right now, my store's URL is www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=FigBits

It should be www.bricklink.com/FigBits

(or even figbits.bricklink.com)

The suggestion won't really help me at this point, since I have a much simpler
URL than either of those (figbits.com), but I think it would be good for others.

I have been trying to put together several orders and get the most out of each
store. But I am not able to do this in one sitting. It may require a small
design change, waiting to hear back from the proprieter or *gasp* actually working.
So then all my carts expire after about 2-3 days and I have to work on rebuilding
them. It's enough to give up and source parts elsewhere.

Sure, I can save screenshots and try to save in Brickstock but these are extra
unnecessary steps. Likely there is a variable somewhere in the bowels of the
BL code that could be changed from "72 hours" to "720 hours". If Amazon, Target,
and the Owl can remember my carts indefinitely, I don't think it's asking
too much for BL to do the same.

And for those who would complain that it's unnecessary, tell me also how
it would inconvenience you to have a longer cart timeout.

I don't believe much in forum's suggestions, but you never know...

The API lets us do "mass creation" of lots, but we can't do a "mass update"
to perform operations such as updating the prices of all lots at once.

We could send a bunch of "update inventory", a call for each lot, but then any
big seller will hit the limit of 5000 calls / day easily.

Can we please either get an API call for mass updates, or raise the limit of
5000 calls/day?

The software I'm writing will be free and open source once complete and tested
enough, so I don't really want just my personal limit of 5000 raised (as
the API docs suggest one can ask).

Thank you.

This feature, described here: http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=520798
, is very useful when shopping by wanted lists. The only flaw is when the quantity
ordered differs from the quantity entered on the list. If a buyer orders any
quantity of an item on their list (regardless of the quantity entered on their
wanted list) the item appears in the Wanted Items in Order page.

Since Bricklink's system can see the quantity on the WL and can see the quantity
in the Order, then could the screen show an additional line below the item's
line when the quantities aren't equal.
When shopping and you click "All Items" it shows the quantity in red when it's
below the quantity on your WL. Something like this would be great in the IiOoWL
page and prevent accidental over-buying and save buyers time from having to manually
make changes.

Could we get the condition listed on the Wanted List Detail Pages?

such as:
http://www.bricklink.com/wantedDetail.asp?catType=P (Note: this link will only
show information if you have parts added to your Wanted List)

See image below, I added the column of Text inside the Red Box to the first entry
(1).

(1) I randomly assigned the values of "U" (Used) and "N" (New). I do not know
what condition this head is in these stores.

On pages such as this:

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32174

you should be able to click on a colour under "On Wanted Lists" to add it to
your wanted list thereby bringing up the normal "Add Items to My Wanted List:
Add Parts" screen, but with the color already selected.

I think Bricklink has covered all bases as far as features that are useful but
there is one thing I would like to see added. After you make an order you are
given the option to remove items purchased from your wanted list. This is a
great feature but it would be nice if it removed the exact quantity you purchased
from your minimum quantity set for that wanted item on the list. Rather than
just giving the option to delete the item entirely or manually have to do the
math and change the quantity yourself.

Is it too difficult to have the system recognize the quantity you purchased and
pass it over to the wanted list editor for that order and have it automatically
modify the remaining quantity needed? With an option to submit the changes just
as there is now in case there are any errors of course.

Thanks for everything Bricklink. Love the site.

When browsing a store and looking for items on your wanted list, click "Show
All Items this store has on my Wanted List" and it will show ONLY items on your
wanted list that meets your specific wanted list criteria (ie, i want 5 green
1x1 bricks, but they only have 4 - this item would not show).

Click "All Items" and it shows all items on your wanted list ignoring your specific
wanted list criteria for quantity and pricing (ie, i want 5 green 1x1 bricks,
but they only have 4 - this item would show but the qty would be in 'red' to
denote it does not match).

My suggestion is this = When clicking "All Items", condition is also ignored,
along with qty and price (ie, I want 5 green 1x1 bricks in new condition, but
they only have 5 in used condition - this item would show but the condition would
be in 'red' to denote it does not match).

There should be a way to search for multiple items at the same time and show
which store has the majority of what you are looking for. Almost like a shopping
list. Instead of putting in an item and then going through a store looking for
other items needed, it would show many options (i.e. the cheapest store with
the most items or just the store that has the most of what you need). Is there
a way for bricklink to engineer something like this?

Hello all,

So just a suggestion -

Ok so like Amazon when you have a wishlist and you or someone else buys off that
list it disappears from that list. This should be super if it worked in the
same way on here. If there is an option to do this then sorry i havent found
it.

It would be great to be able to add an item to a wanted list from the catalogItem.asp
webpage. Is there a way to currently do this somehow, and I just don't see
it?

It's a bit cumbersome to use the "Add Item" feature on the Wanted List.
I think it would be easier to view a set, view the inventory and choose which
parts to add to your wanted list or be able to do so from the item's page
itself.

Hi,

the changes to Wanted lists seem quite nice, but some fine tuning will make it
even better.

- Missing the prices directly in the list - was a nice feature from old list.
If not directly shown in the new design, maybe just add a + sign to roll them
out or pop-over dialog.
- Transfer from list to catalog item to remember filter - now, if I click on
item in wanted lists it will get me to catalog item page. Both of these pages
allow filters, but they do not transfer. So let's say in my wanted list I
select New item and some max price. Would be nice that clicking on this item,
on the next page (catalog item) I will get these filters pre-filled

Quick shop is a nice feature, but has some drawbacks and lack some features
- Super-Lots - have a filter to ignore them in the shop lists
- Super-Lots - add a color to highlight wanted items (on left side) if present
only in super lots (currently green = match single lots quantity, yellow = some
quantity present, no color = "dear user please guess why this shop shows X of
X (100%) lot matches in shop list, but items do not show as present, maybe it's
part of super-lot, maybe not" )
- return more than one hit on auto finder, let's say top 3 - technically
you spent the CPU cycles to search them all, no ? So why not to display more
results.
- Sort shops by price option - enough said. If it's a resources problem,
then display only after running Auto Finder. Reason ? As per point above, you
already did the calculation, so why not to reuse and display the results.

I hope these help to make BL more usable

I would like to see an addition to the “My Action Items” notification area on
the “MyBrickLink” under the selling category. When the seller marks an order
“Paid” we see the following on our MyBrickLink page …

My Action Items:
(Customize)

Selling:
1 Order not yet shipped (?)

However, when a buyer pays for an order and goes into their My Orders Placed
page and marks the order as “Paid” – we (the seller) have no idea the buyer paid
by looking at our MyBrickLink. We have to go to the My Orders Received page
and see if the grand total is “bold” or go to our emails and see if we received
payment (if electronically).

Wouldn’t it be easy if we could log into BrickLink and go to our “MyBrickLink”
page and see this right away …

My Action Items:
(Customize)

Selling:
1 Order marked paid by Buyer (?)

I believe it would be a nice addition to the site and be an easy way for sellers
to see if their buyer has paid for their order. This may have already been suggested,
but I thought it couldn't hurt to get it out there.

Thanks for any support!

I am probably not the only person here who often has something to say or ask
about the MOC shop. Currently anything someone wants to post something, he/she
has to decide just where to post the message. With the MOC Shop coming along,
but not having it's own dedicated sub forum, the message might end up anywhere,
even if the place posted is not the most appropriate.

The MOC shop needs it's own dedicated sub forum in the boards. Please give
us one.

Often when I am buying I find myself going back into the store from my cart multiple
times to check on the price of parts I have put in my cart.
Please make it so we can see a breakdown of cost per item in our currency of
choice in the cart as well as the store. It seems silly to me that it is not
already this way. I often like to adjust my quantities depending on how much
I have to spend on any given order, and knowing the price per piece (in my currency)
is very helpful, not just the total of the cart in my currency.
I would also find it very helpful if the cart would include the item number as
well.

Ok, back to sleep.

I am currently doing a project and I have a list of items I need. The way the
current wanted list works is to show me lowest priced items in specific quantities
on the list from the stores with the lowest prices for that item.

What I think would be awesome is if somehow we could see which (if any) stores
had the entire list of items in the appropriate quantities (or failing that,
which stores can complete the highest percentage of my order).

For example: say I need 100 Black 1x1 Bricks and 250 White 1x1 Bricks and 50
green 2x1 bricks (totally made up example) - rather than order each item from
a different store and pay shipping multiple times, often I would prefer to pay
a few cents more for some items (especially ones I might only need a few of)
but ship everything from a smaller number of stores.

For a complicated project with hundreds of items, the shipping expense can become
