78 Parts, 1 Minifigure
Sets: Educational & Dacta: Service Packs: Special Element Sets

* Add 2 Part 4032 White Plate, Round 2 x 2 with Axle Hole
* Add 2 Part 4032 Black Plate, Round 2 x 2 with Axle Hole

These are rather complicated requests. First, although this set doesn't
have a year of release, the correct year of release is very likely 1998 to coincide
with the release of this set:

Set No: 9725  Name: ROBOLAB Amusement Park Set {1998 Version}
*
9725-1 (Inv) ROBOLAB Amusement Park Set {1998 Version}
284 Parts, 5 Minifigures, 2 Books, 4 Gear, 1998
Sets: Educational & Dacta: MINDSTORMS: RCX

This surmise is an educated guess based on my knowledge of Educational/Dacta
items. If true, then it would have been years before 4032b with the X opening
began to appear. The special elements set, BTW, is a rare set for which little
other evidence is available. The current inventory has no source.

There is a second set with identical contents which was released in 2002:

Set No: 970672 Name: Special Elements for Amusement Park Set
*
970672-1 (Inv) Special Elements for Amusement Park Set
78 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 2002
Sets: Educational & Dacta: Service Packs: Special Element Sets

This is exactly the same set with a different item number. This is not uncommon
and I believe the catalog has a couple handfuls of duplicate E&D entries due
to different item numbers being used for the same items (this happened fairly
frequently for E&D sets). In other words, this is likely the exactly the same
set which had been around since 1998.

The X opening appears in this set, but the source is parts list. This set is
the earliest instance of the X opening 4032 on BrickLink along with this set:

Set No: 9649 Name: Technology Resource Set
*
9649-1 (Inv) Technology Resource Set
1110 Parts, 2 Gear, 2002
Sets: Educational & Dacta: Technic

However, for 9649-1, the X opening appears as an alternate and was added along
with bluish gray parts - a clear indication that the set used for the changes
came from 2004 or later. Considering all of the above, I believe that the X
opening did not first appear until 2003.

Regardless of all that, though, the X opening 4032 is a far less common variant
which should not have been added to this set inventory without having been confirmed
with an actual set.

However, these requests are essentially based on conjecture and not facts, so
I will leave them open for a few days to give people the opportunity to comment/object
(and I'm certainly not above having my own requests rejected or rejecting
them myself).

Sets: Exo-Force

* Add 1 Minifig exf015 Devastator - Pearl Light Gray Torso, Red Eyes
* Delete 1 Minifig exf009 Devastator - Trans-Red Torso, Red Eyes

Comments from Submitter:
The instructions and LEGO inventory page depicts a Devastator with a trans-red torso, but the set comes with a pearl light gray torso

In instruction there is part color code listed: 4494597 so for this part

Part No: 53988 Name: Torso/Head Mechanical, Exo-Force Robot
*
53988 Torso/Head Mechanical, Exo-Force Robot
Parts: Minifigure, Body Part
but I dig through some of photos of this set in google https://www.google.com/search?q=Lego+8105&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiQjrauzLHaAhUlKpoKHUP3BH8Q_AUICigB&biw=1920&bih=949
and I found that people have this set with this minifig

Minifig No: exf009 Name: Devastator - Trans-Red Torso, Red Eyes
*
exf009 (Inv) Devastator - Trans-Red Torso, Red Eyes
Minifigures: Exo-Force
or this

Minifig No: exf015 Name: Devastator - Pearl Light Gray Torso, Red Eyes
*
exf015 (Inv) Devastator - Pearl Light Gray Torso, Red Eyes
Minifigures: Exo-Force
For example here is with trans red https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U3nGXRyIkw
and here is with pearl light gray http://disneyworldgang.com/Lego/images/8105.jpg
So I think this set can have both, one is alternate.

Two questions have arised after re-counting my set before putting it up for sale:

1) Part

Part No: 32181c02 Name: Technic, Shock Absorber 10L Damped (Undetermined Type)
*
32181c02 Technic, Shock Absorber 10L Damped (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Technic, Shock Absorber
Marked for Deletion

says that the "spring type" is "undetermined", but there are no variants to choose
between. Shouldn't there be some? Attached is a picture of the part in my
set.

Yes, what ever happened to 32181c01? There is a 32181c03:

Part No: 32181c03 Name: Technic, Shock Absorber 10L Damped - No Spring
*
32181c03 (Inv) Technic, Shock Absorber 10L Damped - No Spring
Parts: Technic, Shock Absorber
Looks like we need one that has a spring.

  2) After counting this set, I have 4 left over bricks: 1x black 32054, 2x black
41677, 1x LBG 6538c, and one brick is missing: 1x 32278. These extra/missing
parts seems to make up for the differences between the BL inventory and Peeron's
(I've actually verified Peeron's inventory some years ago). It seems
that BL's inventory corresponds with the parts list in the building instructions
but apparently, there are inconsistencies between this and the actual contents
of the box. I've tried counting the number of bricks required in the building
instructions for those four parts, but there are six books, and I can't make
any of the counts in either of the two models match any of BL's or Peeron's
counts. But how should I handle these missing/extra parts? (I can see that the
part I'm missing was added to the BL inventory in 2012 but not find the reason
why).

Part No: 32054 Name: Technic, Pin 3L with Friction Ridges and Stop Bush
*
32054 Technic, Pin 3L with Friction Ridges and Stop Bush
Parts: Technic, Pin

Part No: 41677 Name: Technic, Liftarm Thin 1 x 2 - Axle Holes
*
41677 Technic, Liftarm Thin 1 x 2 - Axle Holes
Parts: Technic, Liftarm

Part No: 6538c Name: Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Smooth with x Hole + Orientation)
*
6538c Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Smooth with x Hole + Orientation)
Parts: Technic, Connector

Part No: 32278 Name: Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 15
*
32278 Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 15
Parts: Technic, Liftarm

This other situation could be a case of multiple instructions. Check yours against
some of the others listed in databases. Brickset is a great resource for this
- there is a link there provided by Swooshable that will give you all the major
sources.

I already checked that but forgot to write it.

My instruction's seem to be identical to the ones on the LEGO website, and
the inventory count in book 3 are the same counts as BL's inventory (e.g.
37x 32278). But that list obviously don't match the actual contents of my
and the Peeron inventory authors box contents and the actual number of parts
needed for the build. I just recounted the number of 32278's used to build
the main model. It's 36 (my count for the secondary model is 35).

Thanks for finding that. The short connector is what the original submitter

confirm it.

  Therefore, I think all of the evidence found in this thread added to the image

The alternate is where the concern lies. The question is whether the set ever
came with the long connector and that is what has yet to be convincingly demonstrated.

I'm glad some headway is being made on these palm trunks. When they first
appeared in the catalog, I couldn't make head or tail as to where they fit
into the inventory system.

Comments from Submitter:
I have bought the set 6411 on Ebay and the real palm trunk seems to be 2436b (empty hole, no slots inside).
All the parts are original because many of them were still clutched together and some of them are yellowed.

Unfortunately, I decided not to approve this request. I think you're probably
right and I'd like to get the undetermined entry out of the set inventory,
but there's no point in doing so if it's based on a source that I consider
unreliable.

If you find more reliable information in the future, then please resubmit the
request.

Robert -

I found a BrickShelf gallery that documents a sealed set being opened:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=268792

In a couple of the images in the upper-left corner you can definitely tell that
the palm trunks have the short connector:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Rober-to/Town/6411/6411g.jpg
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Rober-to/Town/6411/6411i.jpg

Therefore, I think all of the evidence found in this thread added to the image
is sufficient to prove that the alternate existed.

  I'll be looking through parts

While I'm thinking about it, terms like "Type 1" and "Type 2" are singularly
unhelpful. For example:

Part No: 4662 Name: Duplo Hook with Thin Bracing
*
4662 Duplo Hook with Thin Bracing
Parts: DUPLO

Part No: 15449 Name: Duplo Hook with Thick Bracing
*
15449 Duplo Hook with Thick Bracing
Parts: DUPLO

If I had a random Duplo hook, what about either catalog entry would let me know
which one I had? Nothing in the title, no notes, and no comparison images.

I think any catalog entries which specify an item is type 1 or type 2 should
be looked at more closely for possible improvement.

I tried changing a bunch of part names years ago that had "Type 1" or "Type 2",
etc. in them and all of them were rejected. I still think it is wholly uninformative
and useless to have such things in the names of parts.

Cheers,
Randy

1 Part, 1969
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

* Change 1 Part Blue 740 Electric, Train 12V Transformer for 220V {match ID 0 to 1}

Right, I uploaded the light gray picture.
Maybe 'various color' ? As we do by the minifigs.

Stefaan

Speaking of pictures, it would be great if someone could upload a better photo
of the blue one.

  To anyone reading this in the future, since these messages are permanently saved:
the finger hinges for this set have been moved around, added, and deleted in
nearly every possible way. They're fine now. Leave them alone.

Regardless of how often the inventory for this set has been changed in the past,
both hollow and closed studes on these hinges are possible to be in this set.
This means both versions should be included in the inventory, one as regular,
one as alternate. Since closed studes were the original when this set was released,
hollow studs were the "alternate" done by Lego themselves. There you have it.

Jojo

I totally agree on that.
But in general, I‘ve given up on this issue.
Correcting the inventories could be done so fast and smoothly, if admins would
choose a better process...

  We you list it as part, you can select the right color like the minfig torso

I thought that's what you may be referring to. The reason torsos (and many
other part assemblies) are inventoried this way is so that they can be easily
used in multiple inventories.

I don't believe variable color inventories are appropriate for sets in most
cases. It could be done, yes, but I think having the alternate color for parts
is more appropriate for most sets (including this one).

You may notice that even sets which could include a larger variety of colors
are not traditionally given a single variable-color part inventory:

Set No: 222  Name: 1 x 1 Bricks
*
222-3 (Inv) 1 x 1 Bricks
62 Parts, 1961
Sets: Samsonite: Supplemental

And then sometimes you get only this (see inventory note):

Set No: 9962 Name: Flat Tiles
*
9962-1 (Inv) Flat Tiles
12 Parts, 1994
Sets: Educational & Dacta: Service Packs

  As MISB set you don't know what you have inside, it can be blue or light
gray.

Indeed that's true and the alternate part in the inventory will allow sellers
to part out the set depending on what color they find.

I'm confused by what you're asking here. Can you elucidate?

Robert

In this inventory we have the 'blue' and/or the 'light gray'
one.
But if we use 1 part for the inv. as 'various color'.

We you list it as part, you can select the right color like the minfig torso
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=973&idColor=0#T=C&C=0
various color: (or no color)
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?P=973c02

As MISB set you don't know what you have inside, it can be blue or light
gray. (or maybe there is a color dot on the box as we seen on other sets at that
time)

About two weeks ago, I did some search and found few other auctions listing or
other photos of this gray transformer with the box of 740.
Otherwise, how did this gray transformer appear?

More important, please note that the blue era ended in 1979 and the gray era
began in 1980. However, it seems to me that the blue track-related parts had
already began to be replaced by their gray ones. For example, see
[p=bb93]
and
[p=bb141c01].
Their gray ones do not appear in any set. (Of course, I will work on them
)

Knowing this fact would make my future inventory requests much smoother.

* Change 1 Part Blue 740 Electric, Train 12V Transformer for 220V {match ID 0 to 1}

At the time of this request, longtime member brasletty has a new set for sale
which also shows the light gray transformer (photo attached) The part in light
gray appears in no other set at this time, but multiple photos demonstrate its
existence and there are 7 listings of light gray for sale.

I have little doubt in the accuracy of this request and it has been approved.

  I am curious. Are there any advantages to the administrators to having a separate
"delete" and "add" for an inventory instead of merely a "change"?

None that I'm aware of. It's just habit for me to submit change requests
that way.
