We are sad to inform you that our Catalog Adminstrator StormChaser is no longer
part of the Community Expert Program.

Not sure why anyone is surprised about this. There was a big catalog dump that
was largely stormchaser’s baby and it was mostly cancelled at the last minute.
Was he frustrated, probably. Is this the first time he has left BL, no. This
might not be the last we see of stormchaser. He had big ambitions, but it looks
like he wasn’t given the freedom to execute his vision. Maybe BL was right to
not make too many catalog changes at once, but maybe not... Either way, when
you get paid to do a job, it’s important to do your best within the parameters
of that job. I’m just guessing, but I think he was just ahead of his time at
BL. All the best!

Did you check the packet throughly? Sometimes cloth elements can stick to the
inside of the bag or get caught in a corner.

We are pleased to announce that a major new feature was deployed to the catalog
today - Packing Dimensions!

Today the last bug was fixed for the new Packing Dimensions Project, Phase 1.
Contributors may now use the question mark link on the catalog detail page to
quickly and easily submit a missing Packaging Dimension (see Image 1).

Part No: 271pb05 Name: HO Scale, Accessory Policeman One Hand Left
*
271pb05 HO Scale, Accessory Policeman One Hand Left
Parts: HO 1:87 Vehicles
If the question mark isn't working as a link, it's not a bug - just go
to your Catalog Settings page and check the box (see Image 2):

Show Links to Add Weight and Dimensions

...and be sure to save your settings.

A full 7 months before the April 6 release of this feature, on Sep 6 of last
year I opened a new Forum Topic called Packing Dimensions X, to make it easier
to handle the large backlog of requests that had built up earlier in the year.

When I opened the topic, I actually asked people NOT to contribute except when
necessary:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1220218

As a matter of consideration, please don't add dimensions for parts with
every side under 20mm.

And then on Oct 6, I asked for the following:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1225859

...until we get a tool that goes through the normal approval channels (which
is coming in the next few weeks), please do not submit measurements for an entire
set of [300] decorated parts...

However, now that the tool is ready to use, I would like to officially remove
all restrictions from submitting Packing Dimensions. We are planning to open
up some other forms and give you some handy filters to find missing dimensions
- this will be in Phases 2 and 3. But for now, the paved road is finally open,
so drive on through!

I'd also like to include a little chart showing the effect of releasing this
tool (see Image 3). And we still have 4 more days to go in April.

I saw the blue ? before I saw the forum post. That should speed things up.

This is a contributor task, not an admin task...

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogAdd.asp?utm_content=subnav

You can add the part yourself here:

https://www.bricklink.com/wantedCatalog.asp?catType=P

and then the image here:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogImageAdd.page?itemType=P

Then, the admins will review and approve it. Do you have a good image? I can
answer any questions if you run into problems.

They are already in the inventory, as regular and extra parts. This is similar
to other parts that come in card boxes to protect them.

the Chinese sellers that do missing print / bad print parts was selling that
one a few years ago. I bought a lot of LOTR parts that were missing paint from
them but didn't really pay too much attention to the SW parts. I remember
that they had a lot of partially printed ewok heads.

Poe Dameron started out life as sw1144 - then was changed to sw0737a which caused
the problem:

In the meantime yoda was approved as sw1144 but we shouldn't reuse numbers
as it causes other problems.

So sw1144 now does to be left unused which is why yoda was moved.

Ooops yes I’d forgotten about sw1146 pending as Blue Milk Luke, ok my bad.
But why was Yoda changed to sw1147, surely sw1144 was perfectly fine?

sw1146 (Inv) Clone Trooper Commander (Phase 1) - Bright Light Orange Arms, Nougat Head
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 2
is still pending because it hasn't been officially released. The LEGO Star
Wars game has been delayed once again until later this year.

And you were the one who submitted it to the catalog, so you should know, right?

Ok so I had sw1146 pending as Blue Milk Luke (totally forgotten about), which
I’ve now deleted as it’s never going to be released at this rate.
Still need no idea why the two figs changed codes though?

numbers now, as neither of them exist!
I don’t get why Yoda was changed from sw1144 to sw1145 for no apparent reason?

backpack on but it was not assembled that way on the clamshell—do we need another
picture of yoda without backpack or just let it be?

Brown isn’t in the Known Colours column for me.
It’s in the Price Guide Information column though, maybe you’re mistaking the
two?

I am a curious person. I am curious about this and think it is natural to be.
I am also often frustrated by obituaries that almost never tell what happened.
No, we don't DESERVE all the details, but I totally understand why people
would be curious.

I have enjoyed many collaborations with Stormchaser. He knows how I feel about
him. Whether on staff or not in the future, I hope he will continue to contribute.
If his life has changed and he doesn't have the time, maybe he will return
later. If his feelings have been hurt and he needs some time or never wants
to come back, I understand that. There is still a lot of work to do on the catalog,
but at the end of the day none of us do it unless it is fun. Some day I will
quit. Not soon, I think. Meanwhile there are some ugly old renders and some
some undetermined coconut trees, so I'm going back to work.

Submit it to the instructions entry for 40315-99. This is a special trick that
was created for gear sets that had instructions. Hopefully, all of these will
be sets come October so we won't have to worry about this anymore.

Seems disingenuous, your expression of concern. He’s a big boy, that I don’t
believe was without compensation.

I appreciate Robert and his efforts as much as any others here, and before most:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1178543

He’s quit the catalog team before though: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1178543

He’s also gone to the extent of quitting BL altogether, unregistering vowing
publicly never to return: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1123830

Only to be reinstated by that evil BL office (admin) you seem incessant in denigrating.

Ouch! You got me there: I harbor no good feelings toward the BL office. However,
I do generally admire your positivity and wish I had more of it. I used to look
on the better side of things and now I don't.

There's too many things that could be better if they chose to make them better.
This rankles me. I do try to be supportive and kind when I see genuine effort.
I help newbies, I support our admin, I contribute. So, I am incessant in wanting
things to be better. You're right. 'Denigrating' implies that I am
lashing out without cause. Is that fair?

I don't feel good about what happened. I think we are worse off. If I came
across as disingenuous, that was not my intent.
Take care,
Jen

  Dear community,

We are sad to inform you that our Catalog Adminstrator StormChaser is no longer
part of the Community Expert Program. We will be updating the Community Admin
page soon.

StormChaser has positively influenced the catalog in many ways, and his passion
for documentation and organization are legendary. We are planning to move ahead
with initiatives he has set in motion and keep alive his vision for a better
catalog.

We must also mention that this is a difficult time for the catalog team, as they
have lost two very experienced admins since the beginning of the year. In the
coming weeks we will announce some plans for the future.

The BrickLink Team

We hope he continues to be a part of the community and want to express our deepest
gratitude for his help personally to us as users and broadly to the community
here on BL.
We can't imagine what a thankless 'job' it is to volunteer for the
betterment of a community and be constantly criticized by users who can't
deal with changes even though those changes have only upgraded and elevated the
catalog.
StormChaser deserves our gratitude and not our lust to satisfy our own selfish
need to know 'why?'

VERY WELL SAID.

I very much doubt we are going to get one. The BrickLink office's lack of
transparency is well-documented. Personally, I think it stinks.

There are two different types of transparency here though - transparency about
decisions concerning the catalogue and transparency about decisions concerning
employment (whether paid for or not).

They should clearly be transparent about decisions connected to the catalogue.
However, they should not be transparent about why someone is no longer doing
something they used to do. It could be a whole range of things, from wanting
payment for voluntary work, a difference of opinion over part movements or definitions,
things moving at the wrong speed, through to more personal reasons such as someone
deciding they cannot do it for employment or medical or family reasons or just
that they have done it long enough and want a break. Unless the person involved
wants to tell us, then I don't think we need to know the reasons. I don't
see that as a lack of transparency, just privacy.
