Is there list of which other importing countries Bricklink currently or intends

Simply Help button, search for "tax" maybe?

It seems like Australian buyers will be charged GST as a hidden fee that only
appears during checkout.

In Australia, prices are usually listed as inclusive of applicable sales taxes.

This will show to Australian buyers only on stores that are not located in Australia.

Is it not possible to include GST upfront in the price guide and store listings
pages?

As far as I know it is not possible with the current source code of Bricklink...

  Dear BrickLink members,

On June 1, 2023 we plan to implement new marketplace features and settings to
handle Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST). This will mostly affect transactions
where an Australian buyer is purchasing from stores outside of Australia, but
it will also affect all Australian BrickLink members to a degree (both buyers
and sellers).

Here is a summary of what will change:

1. BrickLink will now collect Australian GST for all orders being shipped into
Australia from the outside with a consignment value under $1,000 AUD. As with
other taxes collected on the BrickLink site, this means that all such orders
will require an onsite payment method.

2. When seller invoices go out on June 5th, GST will now be added to the invoice
for Australian sellers.

3. Australian business sellers who are GST registered will now have the option
to upload tax information to their BrickLink seller profile. GST will not be
added to the monthly fee invoice for such sellers.

We plan to send out emails to all affected BrickLink members later this week.
For a deeper explanation of this implementation, please see our new Help Page,

If my store is a 'hobby business' without an ABN, it is not required
to collect GST, are you going to be able to 'turn off' GST collection
if this applies?

The GST referred to under point 2 above is GST on your fees as a seller, not
GST that you as a seller collect from others.

Do you have some kind of chart or image that shows a breakdown of these fees
and where they apply, for what reason?

Cheers ...

Prepare to loose all your Australian customers over this farce.

Because of new online marketplace legislation, in many countries BrickLink is
considered to be the deemed supplier, not the BrickLink sellers. Since we are
now a Registered Business in Australia and our thresholds are high, we qualify
as having to collect the tax. This is a legal obligation for us, not an optional
service.

Does this mean you will be issuing tax invoices with an ABN?

Yes.

As shown in the Help page:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2597

At the foot of the receipt you can see "TAX ID: UNKNOWN". This will be
filled in on receipts issued after this solution has been implemented.

This is not how GST and Australian tax law works. The goods on bricklink are
not taxable unless the seller is a registered business.

Individuals buying and selling items do not pay GST to each other!

Only the service component of 3% bricklink fees is taxable here.

Australia is a large resource country and the government here was always concerned
about taxing resources which generate a lot of money for Australia. So the government
never was concerned about getting more tax revenue by lowering the thresholds
on imports or even raising GST but as I said before it is changing and there
has been talk of it but never really pursued.

Another thing to mention is that if Bricklink intends to charge GST it would
have to be registered as an Australian business and must quote their ABN number
when collecting GST. I assume that this has been done already.

Brett.

However, I do feel for the buyers as under GST rulings you are not meant to be
charged GST and import charges on goods under $1000. However the last few years
it has been changing and with US state sales tax and VAT coming in over five
years ago, it was only a matter of time before this came to Australia and other
countries.

I find it surprising that some countries had such a big threshold, even islands,
where transport cost would be a barrier.  That’s unfair to the domestic market
to be able to buy from abroad without tax.
(Well, there’s the USA as a big example too )

For info, EU import VAT has always been due… there was only an exception for
low amounts (€22/£15) because it was too costly to collect (hurrah for internet
and marketplaces that can do the job for the government ).

So, EU buyers don’t lose much (or even win) with the new scheme: we lost the
€22 exception (and some packages managed to fly under the radar) but we have
no brokerage fees from the postal & courrier services anymore.  Well, when we
are not double-VATed… (though there hasn’t been posts about it for some time
now).

Seems AU buyers are losing in the change.

Any idea if the NZ buyers (who are next in line) will lose too?
(Norway should be like EU, or maybe more exactly like UK.)

This will go live when the solution is deployed. June 1st is still the target.

No.
