I built all the idea book and displayed it in part in 2012 and complete 2013
and 2014. Missing from the pictures are the antenna which were left at home...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/asbpics/albums/72157645805524096

the hardest - but not most expensive was the large 10 x 20 bricks 700

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=700eD#T=C

that were no widely available in the US and used multiple times (I think 7 or
8)

I also created scenes from the catalog the following year

https://www.flickr.com/photos/asbpics/albums/72157690162303892/with/40069243092/

And perhaps the same year and/or year after every city set from the 80s. There
is a video somewhere but the pictures are lacking.

It was fun. The set up was time consuming. I still have all the 6000 items, but
have sold most of the 80s sets.

Janey Red Brick and friends built every scene/every page of the 6000 book not
too many years ago. I believe they used only parts featured in the book, so
all 1980ish.

Sorry, I dunno if photos exist.

Last year it looked like that, they made the waves for my hair too. when i wanted
red/colour of fire type of things made by students and some stripes for my hair.
The teacher said i was brave for choosing the colour/colours, but also gave me
compliments when it was ready.. And oh my.. Was i happy! I sure was! ๐Ÿ’“ It is
so much cheaper to go there where the students do it..last time it was for free
when they cut my hair little bit.
My hair has bangs in the front side and the colours are not like that anymore,
since that foto was taken more than 6 months ago... And it is just straight hair
normally, between long hair and middle-lemgth maybe now. Maybe little longer
than middle-length...

you have little warmer there. Enjoy your beautiful sunshiny day ๐Ÿ˜‰

Witch. Then the brown hair.. My hair used to be like red when i was younger.
Later it looked more like brown, like lighter brown maybe. So i chose for the
Witch minifigure different hair and head. My hair is not as long as with the
minifigure, but it is like "long hair" if i go to hairdresser for cutting it at least not shortest. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good read, thanks.

That in between and seemingly shifting hair color from red to brown, is sometimes
referred to as auburn here. My daughter has auburn hair. As her mother is Swedish
and very blonde, we believe that portion of her genes came from my mother, her
grandmother, who had very beautiful auburn hair.

I have gone around and around with this problem for a while now.

Let's say there is a circle divided into eight sectors, with sector one being
from degrees zero to forty-five, sector two being from degrees forty-five to
ninety, and so on. Let's say a point is plotted somewhere randomly on the
circle. How would you determine which sector that point is in?

The reason I ask this question is because I have a perfectly round user interface
and I need to perform some action depending on which sector was clicked.

My thoughts so far are to somehow draw an imaginary line between the point clicked
and the origin of the circle, draw an imaginary line from the origin straight
up the screen, and get the angle between those two lines clockwise. If it's
between (i - 1) * 45 and i * 45 degrees, then it's in the ith sector. I would
not know how to program this without a formula; believe me, I tried.

Reference:

I think you should search online for radial menu code for whatever programming
language you are using. There are plenty of examples out there that have code
for radial menus. Why build your own when examples already exist?

Cheers ...

between (i - 1) * 45 and i * 45 degrees, then it's in the ith sector. I would
not know how to program this without a formula; believe me, I tried.

Reference:

Assuming you have x and y coordinates with (0,0) being the center of your circle,
convert them to polar form (r,ฮธ):

r = sqrt(x^2 + y^2)

ฮธ = arctan(y/x) ... or atan(y/x) depending on the language.

All you really need though is ฮธ, the angle. The arctan function will probably
return ฮธ in radians so you would need to multiply by 180/ฯ€ to convert the angle
to degrees. In essence:

Angle in degrees = (180*arctan(y/x))/3.14

Also note that on your diagram, an angle of zero degrees is the boundary between
sectors 2 and 3. So:

an angle between 0 and 45 means sector 2
an angle between 45 and 90 means sector 1
an angle between 90 and 135 means sector 8

etc

Hope that helps!

An edit:
The arctan function is only defined for angles between -90 (270) and 90. I glossed
over that. So, as per your subject line, it is complicated!

If x is positive then
____If y is positive then
________Angle_in_degrees = (180*arctan(y/x))/3.14
____Else if y is negative
________Angle_in_degrees = 360 + (180*arctan(y/x))/3.14
____end if
Else if x is negative
____Angle_in_degrees = 180 + (180*arctan(y/x))/3.14
End if

If either x or y are zero (notice I specifically used "positive" and
"negative" above), it means the user has clicked right on a boundary,
this would require more if-then statements to accommodate. In this case (x=0
or y=0), I might just add a tiny value to the x or y coordinate to make the variable
non-zero and then send it through the above code.

The inverse trig functions aren't always fun to work with

(sorry for the underscores, BL doesn't maintain my formatting)

For a problem like this, I would first of all start with "standard" coordinate
system with origin at the centre of the circle and 0 degrees are on the positive
side of the x axis and increase counter-clockwise.

I assume that you have (or can calculate) the x,y coordinates of the plotted
point.

The general solution for n number of sectors would require you to calculate the
vector angle from the origin to the plotted point and then decide which 360/n
sector it resides on. One of the first google results here:

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46387747/find-angle-of-point-on-circle

For your case though, the 8-section circle makes it much simpler. In the first
quarter (positive x and y), x y means your point is below the diagonal, x
y means your point is above the diagonal.

The same method can be applied to the other 3 quarters. First decide which quarter
you are in (positive or negative x & y) and then if you are above or below the
diagonal |x| |y|.

Good luck!

Reference:

depending on the language you are using you may be able to use an arctan2 function,
arctan2((clickx - centerx) , (clicky - centery)) would give you the angle of
the click relative to the center of the circle.

Simple answer (but 3AM here):

Let x & y be the coordinates of the point relatively to the center of the disc,

if x positive
ย  if y positive
ย  ย  if x greater than y
ย  ย  ย  sector 2
ย  ย  else
ย  ย  ย  sector 1
ย  else
ย  ย  if x greater than |y|
ย  ย  ย  sector 3
ย  ย  else
ย  ย  ย  sector 4
else

No, the forum does not like the transparent background in your file.
Problem should be solved if you save a copy as jpg before uploading to the forum
(that could reduce the image quality, so keep your original file).

that's what i did but then it made the image background black

My advice on patterned parts is to show them at less of an angle than this. It's
good to show a bit of the side so we can see what part this is, but the pattern
side should take up the majority of the image. This makes it much easier to identify
when scanning through the thumbnail images.

I was trying to get a similar angle to other ones i saw in the catalogue but
i guess after so many attempts (like 20+ photos taken and seriously considered
for the part) I must have make the angle worse

I think it is perfect, and I would suggest the slightly darker one looks nicer.

Thankyou for your input! ill add it now! (will try to work on the droid torso
again eventually )

  Nice job, Jason!

Thanks!

My husband considered it to be a problem when I took over "his" office.
To be fair, it's my office now. Also.. he NEVER used it so it's better
off.

AND LEGO IS NEVER A PROBLEM... THEY ARE!

It depends what other outgoings you have.

20% is a huge amount to be spending on lego if you are spending 95% on essentials.
Whereas 20% is not much if you are only spending 10% on essentials.

Isnโ€™t LEGO part of the essentials?

The first rule of Lego is don't talk about the 'problem'.

First, we cleared off a bookcase so we could display our LEGO collection. Then,
the china cabinet. The movie drawer, the toy box, and the game shelf went next.
Having taken over every surface in that first room, it spread, inching its way
around the TV shelf, the mantle, and the side tables. Finally, the office succumbed
as its storage areas were just too easy a mark. We drew the battle line at the
kitchen door and won!

So, yeah, 3 rooms are full and we definitely have a 'problem.' (We don't
talk about the basement.)
