All true, but the OP's store already has parts listed for sale.
At the very least it's a good idea, if completing the sets is difficult,
to separate out the minifigs before trying to sell the parts in one batch.

| I do it like that too - I try to find rare pieces in the heap, stickered ones,
figures and others that only came in one set, and try to collect the parts for
those sets. Then fill up partial sets I already have. The rest I sell as separate
bricks, I don't think there's a (reasonable) way to find out where they
came from, unless you know the sets very well yourself.

| If you're missing a lot, its better to sell the parts. When listing them,
be sure to write in the comments what Era they are from. There are buyers looking
for older bricks in particular.

| If you know you're missing a lot of parts (especially the more rare parts),
it would not make any sense to try to acquire the missing pieces unless you frequently
buy lots from a similar era and don't mind holding onto them and eventually
completing. That being said, it's a lot more work and the sets themselves
will sell slower than individual pieces and figs.
I'd strongly recommend just listing figs and rare parts separately (identifying
the likely sets makes this a lot easier).

| This is an over 18 site full of people obsessed (and I don't think obsessed
is too strong a word...just look at the intensity and dedication shown by those
people that form the catalogue.) with a child's toy. While I'm sure there
are some here who only see an opportunity to make some money from a highly sort
after commodity (and good luck to them they are part of the beauty and usefulness
of this site) the vast majority are LEGO fanatics for whatever their own reasons
are. This being the case, in the whole wide world you possibly are weird but
here on Bricklink you are just another AFOL, we all are to one degree or another,

| I'm sorry about that, I have been looking at how expensive any given set
I can complete from my unsorted LEGO bins is, but ultimately if the set doesn't
have some sort of appeal to me I won't go forward with the process of part
collection and putting it for sale, since I will have to have the set around
for some while before someone buys it from me, and I can only have so much space
dedicated to LEGO in my apartment.

| You definitely aren't, when I sold my 8868 Airtech Claw Rig at 16, I immediately
regretted it.
However, now that I'm back into the business of selling LEGO, I don't
really sell my own, I sell sets and parts from bins I found on the street
or purchased on Craigslist. I have less attachment to it so it makes it easier.
Still, I don't put everything I got for sale, only the parts I'm sure
I won't need to complete a set or a MOC, like stickered parts or parts in
colors that are specific to a single set.
This is why my shop has so few parts for sale, the rest of my collection is off-limit.
I tried to sell some basic bricks to make some space in my drawers, and the next
month I realized I needed some of the parts I sold and that I would have to buy
them again. We're talking about pennies lost, but it felt worse than the
financial loss.
This is why I probably won't be suckered into buying sets to part them to
sell. In fact I'm committed to do the exact opposite, reassembling sets from
loose collection, the investigative work and the part collection are fun hobbies
for me.

Yeah that's true. Well, I'm selling used parts from my old sets, but
using some of that money to fund lego mocs, so I guess I haven't felt that
that much yet.

You are not the only one. I am currently in the process of liquidating my LEGO
collection and while it is nice to have all that extra space and cash, it is
sad to see the old LEGO go away. Of course, you could always by more sets and
start the process all over again

Without looking at your inventory, you would probably get around 1/2 or even
less of the average value. Otherwise people could just buy new sets instead and
get the same average value.

Light gray was not a very normal color back then, but black, white, red and blue

The castle is yellow, the light gray is used for helmets, weapons, shields and
vests.
The other visors are different from their light gray helmets, but are the same

White knight, white suit and white visor, red knight red suit and red visor,
black knight, black suit and black visor , blue knight, blue suit and light gray
visor???
This question came up recently again as I am going through my yellow castle sets
again.
And to give maybe a bit of evidence, here is an old picture of said knight.
