Set No: 258 Name: Zoo with Baseboard
*
258-1 (Inv) Zoo with Baseboard
467 Parts, 1976
Sets: Building Set with People: Zoo

* Change {17 to 16} Part White 3001old Brick 2 x 4 without Cross Supports

Comments from Submitter:
I've just obtained this set in virtually new condition. There are only 16 of this piece. One is in the large elephant and 15 in the white stand where the gorilla is. See pages 2 and 5 of the instructions. Based on the positions of this piece in the gorilla stand as shown in the instructions, this part of the model physically can only be built with a maximum 15 of this piece.

Hi,

I bought this set, boxed and with all parts present and in shiney condition,
about 8 years ago. I also build the whole set back then and after that I checked
the BL inventory. My set really has 17 white bricks 3001old. I still remember
I had some problems building that stand with gorilla's, so I tried again.
The building instruction is very difficult at this point, it doesn't show
all steps and it doesn't show all bricks. You really need other pictures
on the box to get it done, and even then ...

I tried and I tried and I tried for over half an hour to build a solid stand
with only 15 2x4 bricks, but it doesn't work for me. Did you actually build
the stand / set?

Imo the set inventory is correct. Another note: There are several other building
idea's in the Instruction / on the box that you also have to be able to build
with the bricks inside (instead of the Zoo that is). Please also keep that in
mind when checking an Inventory.

Kind regards,
Diana

Hi Diana,

Thank you for your reply. Yes I built the set and like you I had a hard time
with the stand. I have the box and the other models do not use anything near
16 or 17 3001old white bricks. The pictures of the zoo on the box lid and the
underside of the lid don't help either.

The first two images below are from the instructions.

In the first picture, the brick(s) holding up number 11 are hidden. Also, a 3001old
is most likely under the brick marked 'A', binding it by 2 or
4 studs to brick 9.

In the second picture, a stud can be seen that is behind brick 2. I think this
is a 3001old sitting directly behind brick 2, which would offer 4 studs of support
to brick 11.

The third picture is the model taking my suggestions from the first two pictures.
There are 13 3001old bricks in this model, with only enough room for 2 more.

The fourth picture is the model with a total of 15 3001old bricks. The fifth
picture is a slight variation on picture 4. The last two pictures provide a good
degree of stability to the stand.

Please let me know what you think Diana and please advise how you built the stand
with 16 3001old bricks!

Kind regards,

Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks for all your trouble. I promiss I will check again with the help of your
images. Please just give me some time for that. Although the set is still in
my Living room I am very busy with my store at the moment. But again, I promiss
to get back on this. The large box on my dinner table will remind me, LOL

Kind regards,
Diana

Comments from Submitter:
I Parted out 6 sets. None of them had an extra string. Sokolean must have made a mistake, or his one set had an extra string by accident.

Diana

My set had an extra string, also, and I am on a different continent. Therefore,
I do not think it is a fluke. Also, this part has appeared many times as an extra
since 2013. See the bottom of http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=x127c31&in=S

Cheers,
Randy

Well, the change request is rejected. All 6 sets I had didn't have an extra
string though. So I am 100% a lot of sellers listed to many strings parting out
these sets, like I had.

Diana

This is why there is an option during partout to *not include* extras. The extras
section is for items whose presence is variable. If sellers do not wish to check
their extras manually, they should not include extras during the partout process,
plain and simple. It is an exchange of convenience for slightly less profit.

And by the way, retaining extras in the inventory that are found to not be in
every copy has been the policy of the site ever since the extras feature was
implemented, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

Russell

I know of this option and understand the meaning of it, but so far it didn't
give any problems. All sets I ever checked and / or parted out had the very same
extra parts.
This is the first set in my hands that is different from the BL-inventory.

But when this is how it works, so be it.
Good luck for all the sellers who can't deliver ordered strings.

Diana

Source: 5 sealed sets, bought in 2014

Confirmed: checked my set bought three weeks ago.
(I was so focused about getting the Flat Silver/Pearl Light Gray thing right
I didn’t notice the missing holes )

Same here. These buckets have been laying around for 2 years, because I didn't
know what color to use I only noticed last week, that the bucket wasn't
in the catalog yet.

About the color. I still have my doubts. I uploaded a small image in Pearl Light
Gray and it was changed to Flat Silver.

Diana

I checked the buckets in my inventory and half of them were this new part. The
color is flat silver. Pearl light gray is a color that hasn't been produced
in a long time.

Thanks for the info Paul.
I thought the same about the color Pearl Light Gray, untill it was used not so
long ago in new inventories. After that I doubted about every part in inventoried
as Flat Silver.

When has that color been used in new inventories? I see that the latest it has
been used is 2013, and most of those instances come from one member.

Sorry for the confusion, but these buckets were laying around for two years.
Two years ago sets from 2013 were pretty new I started parting out new sets
end 2013. Ronald is talking about past 2010 though, 2013 is 3 years later. Unfortunately
I don't remember which parts anymore.

But I also want to continue selling Used Lego and besides there are also New
Lego Items I am not allowed to sell including VAT.

My suggestion is to be able to remove the VAT at the time you add an item into
your inventory.

Besides the fact I am not allowed to sell specific items with VAT, if I would
add a very rare vintage item for let's say 121 euro, I will only receive
100 euro selling it to someone outside of Europe. So I will loose 21 euro.

At the moment I therefor put all my used items in stock.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Diana

Just wondering about the status on this one?!

Depending on what you are doing at the time, I would like to see a warning 10

Status can be changed to 'implemented'.

  Hi

I think it would be a good idea to add also inventory for original boxes. Especially
in the past, boxes in more complexed sets contained unique cardboard trays, cardboard
support elemnts for plastic inserts, another separate mini boxes (like in 6285
set) or 1 or 2 plastic transparent or coloured inserts/trays. I have many sets
with original boxes and I discovered, that many parts of boxes have also separate
numbers!
For many lego collectors it would be nice to know, if in a box they want to buy
there is everything or what part of box is missing.
I can help to take a pictures of box contents I have, to measure their dimensions
and define colours.
Adding to inventory original catalouges and posters would be nice too, but in
many countries there ware different type of catalouges inside the same box, so
it would be hard to define all catalouges to every box.

Please take my request into consideration, let's make Bricklink the best
lego inventory site!

You should change Topic to Suggestion.

As far as I know, you already can add Posters to an Inventory.

Adding Catalogues to an Inventory is 'impossible' in my opinion.
- the sets indeed had a different catalogue in each country at least
- you can only be sure about what catalogue is in a set, when opening a sealed
set from that time

In my opinion the only one that knows if an order is 100% completed is the Buyer,
not the Seller. Only the buyer can change status to received, but both buyer
and seller can change status to completed.

Status Received:
Package has been received but the buyer has not yet verified the contents on
the package.

As a buyer I Always use this, until I verified the contents, which can take a
while, depending on how many orders I receive at once, how big the orders are
and if I can find time to check.

I like it to have this great reminder to do so:
... Orders received, change status when completed

Now I experienced several times, that the seller changed status to completed.
Which is not correct, because I still didn't check the order yet. Besides
I now lost my reminder which tells me I still have to verify this order and leave
feedback.

As a seller I understand that it's nice to know when an order is completed
and that buyer's do change order status, but it's not up to the seller
to decide if an order is received and 100% correct.

My Suggestion:

Only allow the Buyer to change status to Completed.

Diana

How about getting rid of the order update system instead?

Already a buyer placing a typical order on Bricklink is expected to:

1. Checkout the cart and wait for an invoice
2. Return to BL or his e-mail to read the invoice
3. Go to another site to enter and make payment
(3a. One seller I bought from wants the buyer to mark the order as paid
so she knows which orders on her screen to ship!)
4. Return to BL and mark the order as Received when it arrives
5. Return once more to BL and mark the order Completed after checking the contents
and to leave feedback.

That's five (possibly six) trips to the computer to complete a Bricklink
order, stretched out over a week or so, in most cases. Is it any wonder buyers
stop participating in the process once they have their bricks in hand?

Why do we need a "received" and "completed" status at all? Get rid of them. The
order is complete when the buyer leaves feedback.

We need it, because there are buyers who use it (like me). There's no obligation
for a buyer to change status. But for buyers who want to use it, it works great
(unless the seller changes the status after it's shipped).

Imagine having a very busy week as a seller and receiving 12 big orders (you
placed) that week. No time to check. It works perfect for me then to change status
to received and have this nice reminder on my screen.

Also, the seller knows that the order is received (but not yet verified).

Buyers want to order and pay in one visit. They are also accustomed from using
other sites to return - at their convenience - to leave feedback after the order
is received and everything is good. Rather than put sellers even more at the
mercy of this arcane system by making "completed" a buyer-only function, let's
just join the modern world on this one and make it simple. We need to stop asking
buyers to jump through five hoops every time they want to buy something.

Imo, all a buyer has to do is pay after the Invoice. All the rest is up to the
buyer. I already make it easy for a lot of buyers, by using a PayPal link in
my Invoice, but not every buyer wants to use that.

This said, I don't see any reason to get rid of the order status.
Just disallow the seller to change it to 'completed'.

I think it's a good suggestion, especially for all these members that are
complaining about the changes today. Looks though, that all they can do is just
that.

I will vote YES on behalf of all those complaining members

Wouldn't to only take a small change to the setup to have those accounting

I'm an old fart who does not like change. And I certainly don't want
to change the way I do business here merely because someone complains about what
other sellers do. Not one of my buyers has ever complained to me about this.
That's enough for me.

"Supposed to"? That's your opinion. Buyers are also "supposed to" mark orders
as complete. If they don't care to do so (and more than 50% don't), then
I see nothing wrong with me doing so. And if sellers aren't "supposed to"
mark orders as complete, why does BL allow them to do so?

I'm with you on the whole closure thing
but once we file it, it is forgotten. As a seller and buyer, this annoys me to
no end when the seller edits the status after shipped, especially since I use
the status as a reminder of what has and hasn't been inventoried.

Once again, if this really is a "problem" that needs fixing, then make it so
that when a
seller marks an order as completed it only shows as completed on the seller's
Orders Received page and not the buyer's Orders Placed page.

First of all-glad to have you back.
Second- I don't know for sure if you were one of the Sellers who has done
this "for" me, but it has happened to me a few times. I just reset it to received
until I had time to finish verifying the order and then posted feedback. It
isn't something worth complaining about if a Seller only does it once on
an order. But having it done several times by the same Seller would be VERY
annoying.

I voted Yes because several possible solutions have been offered that wouldn't
affect the way you as a Seller currently do things.

Thea
Always Learning!

Thanks for your vote Thea (and all other 'YES' voters off course).
It's not worth a complaint towards a seller, but it is annoying indeed. I
have send this last seller who changed the status a message in which I kindly
asked not to change status to 'completed' again, explaing why this is
important to me. With a lot of open orders, unfortunately it took some time before
I knew which order was changed. I knew I had 12 left to check and suddenly Bricklink
showed only 11.

Just been busy from 06:00 AM till 13:00 PM checking and completing 8 orders.
Only 4 to go

You could and I did, but seller just changed it back.

Because of this one seller you want to change the system.

NO, happens all the time. Besides, the reason I want this to change is because
Seller's can't know that an order is complete.

Make a note on user: http://www.bricklink.com/memberNotes.asp?uID=467728
Instead of posting on the forum I would've used that time verify the ordercontents.

Besides.... a reminder is a reminder. At this moment I have 12 orders to check
yet and they show on my page as "12 Orders received, change status when completed".
Thát is my reminder. When the seller sets status to completed, my reminder is
gone and all that is left is my 52 year old Memory

It's possible to mark orders with an order note on the orders placed page.

  Besides, what is said already:
- seller never knows when an order is complete
- what's the problem for a seller when status stays 'received' or
even 'shipped'?

According to BL both orders are not completed.
I can't file and forget them.

Although as a seller I also would like to know when if an order is completed,
but it doesn't bother me that much anymore when I don't know.

Agreed, it's getting less bothering over time, but I still keep wondering...

The Aliexpress website marks orders completed automatically when the given deliverytime
has passed.
Aliexpress also sends a message when a seller left feedback and ask the buyer
to do the same.

Just an observation to add to the confusion.

There are sellers stating they will leave feedback when orders are (either) marked
as 'received', so there are buyers using 'received' to inform
their sellers the order is received, while meaning 'completed'.

Let's just use the orderstatus where they're for:
Received - Package has been received but the buyer has not yet verified the
contents on the package.

Completed - Package received, contents verified, the order is completed.

http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=41

Indeed, let's do that, so disallow the seller (who never knows...) to change
status to completed. Only that way, this status can be used where it's for

Minor tweek, make the color or lettertype different if the seller set it to complete...
Maybe red if the seller did it and green if the buyer sets it.

I don't care as a seller, but as a buyer, I use it as a reminder too and
the seller has no business telling me the order is completed.

Hi M.,

It wouldn't show as "... Orders received, change status when completed" when
status is Completed in another color

Agree, as a seller I will never know if the buyer thinks the order is complete
or not unless he marks it so (so why would I guess and do it for him?). As a
buyer I don't want the seller to mark my order complete either. Also, I
do not expect all buyers to remember/care to change the order status. To me it
does not really matter, after 6 months the stutus cannot be changed anyway, perhaps
at that point the system could set it to complete if the buyer does not but I
don't really think it serves any purpose at that point.

Robert

Correct, a Seller never knows, so should not be able to change status to completed.

Besides some Buyers, there are also some Sellers that don't care about the
Status.
Once in a while I receive an order with Status still on 'Pending' or
'Ready'. As a buyer I Always change status, but in this case I can't.
I have one placed order on 'Pending' for months now.

Maybe if this suggestion is approved and only the Buyer can change status to
'Completed' Bricklink could also allow to do so, whatever the status
is at that moment?!
Can't think of any risk on this point.
