I've had a buyer place an NSS on a (shipped and received, confirmed by tracking)
Order #23768286.

The stated reason for the NSS from the buyer:
"I am trying to cancel my bricklink account, but it's not letting me
because this order is still active. Please deactivate it ASAP and inform me of
thus so I can cancel."

We're going on 10 days now- the buyer hasn't responded. I haven't
heard anything out of the two Help Desk tickets I've opened, and I'm
growing anxious.

I thought help desk ticket times had been improved, and were in the range of
3-4 days now?

"Some but not all pieces missing" is maybe the most vague description
I've seen on here You might want to add a photo, or a list of exactly
what is/isn't there

"Up to 100% off!"
"May contain some pieces!"

Actually I did SOMEHOW sell a set that said "HALO Box. May contain
some pieces" on another market when I was trying to reserve a listing for
a friend. That was a wild experience.

Thanks for your response, Randy. I really appreciate it.
Only 150 Light Grey Metallic still has problems, and BrickLink's catalogue
doesn't even recognise it as being used in Bionicle. It definitely is, both
repeatedly and often interchangeably with 131 and 296, which themselves were
used interchangeably with each other in some cases. The link on the history of
silvers you have provided is not accurate, and my data conclusively proves that.
If you have the information you need, as you claim, then why have you skipped
150 entirely? Can you tell me what year(s) 150 made its way into the Bionicle
catalogue?

I believe the problem you're having is misidentifying 131, 150, and 296.

150 Light Grey Metallic is recognized on Bricklink, called "Pearl Very Light
Gray". In BIONICLE, it was ONLY used during 2003 for Kraata & Krana-Kal.
There are no other 150 parts in BIONICLE.

296 is a color that was used very briefly during 2006, introduced along side
"Warm Gold"/"Pearl Gold", but was quickly retired in favor of
the older 131 Silver - effectively all the 2006 sets use 296 in early batches,
131 in later batches. While 296 was used in 2007, this was only in Exo-Force,
for the marbled torsos, and even then, those were soon phased out for solid 131
ones, that's why the 2007 Exo-Force sets have alternate Minifigures.

What a lot of BIONICLE fans don't seem to grasp is that the silver used for
the Kal sockets, the silver used for the Nuva armor, and the silver used for
the 2007-2009 weapon parts, are all 131 Silver, despite how different they look.
This primarily stems from two different things:
- That 131 itself was adjusted several times during its lifespan (as were 148
Dark Grey Metallic, and 297 Warm Gold)
- That LEGO's materials and colors were all adjusted around 2005-2006 as
they moved to mixing colors in-house (at least, that's what I've come
to understand). This would be the source of not only 131 being different, but
also why the Kanohi Rau in the Toa Nokama set differs from that in the Dalu set.
The result of these adjustments is that 131 become more consistent. Before 2006,
polypropylene parts molded in 131 looked noticably different from ABS parts (a
problem not just with 131 but also with other "metallic" colors like
145, 147, and 149). After 2006, the color had a consistently lighter hue, matching
how it had always looked in ABS plastic.

We know when these colors were used - Throughout the LEGO community we have quite
a lot of data to go on gathered from LEGO, palette tiles to compare physical
parts with, etc.

On top of this, all LEGO colors have some degree of variation, both from adjustments
made over time and from poor quality control. This makes for *color variation*,
something not recognized on Bricklink (besides Rust :v) not separate colors.

A somewhat common misconception I've come across in the BIONICLE community
is that 150 is the lighter silver you find in the early 2006 sets, but this not
correct. That color is 296. This likely stems from a second misconception, that
the lighter parts used from 2006 onwards are 296, which as I've detailed
above is also not correct.

Yes, there have been some glaring issues in the BIONICLE part of the catalogue
- All of the ones Randy mentioned I am really happy are being addressed (as someone
who has researched Zamor Spheres, I'll be keeping an as careful eye as I
can at how that develops). There's some others as well, like incorrect listings
of the Kanohi/Krana packs which I've brought up in a past topic.

However, the case of silver is one that at this point stems from many BIONICLE
fans (and I say this being a BIONICLE fan) not knowing the subject as well as
they think they do, either jumping to conclusions or getting all their information
from Bricklink (people still think in terms of Pearl Light Gray and Flat Silver).
The latter is also the primary reason why I want Tahu's eyestalk color recognized,
as BIONICLE fans are just not familiar with Trans-Dark Pink and thus do not realize
it's not the same color at all.

On top of this, requesting regular sellers to differentiate between variants
of silver is... well, I can already tell you I know that wouldn't go very
well, unfortunately.

capable of hiring a couple more catalogers or even implementing the information
offered here for free? I'm just curious here since surely they could afford
a handful more employees to get on top of things.

These kind of changes and cataloging require people with expertise in both BrickLink
and LEGO. I would guess there's not a handful of people just hanging around
waiting to be hired.

Plus find those with a deep knowledge of Bionicle!

not to egg on a troll but, that is standard fair for shipping. once it's
shipped you give out a tracking number and you're done.

if of course there is any problem with the order such as missing parts etc i'd
be happy to work that out. the rest is with the postal service.

if you're concerned about any of those things happening then pay for insurance.
that's what it's there for. maybe the post works different in the uk
but that's how things are done here in the USA.

if something is lost, stolen or damaged, there's nothing a store can do about
it and again that's why you'd pay for insurance if you want your order
covered.

i'd say that's pretty professional to me.

and of course, if you don't agree with my stores terms you're always
welcome to patronize any of the other stores on bricklink. i think you'll
find they have similar terms, which is why it's always a good idea to read
them.

what isn't professional is bogarting another store's comments on a public
forum to criticize their terms and bring focus to your own store (off topic i
might add). but hey, that's on you.

good day to you sir.

  The Responses

So far I have seen two YouTube videos addressing this issue, and I'll post
in this new thread to respond directly (and completely) to what they are saying.

The two YouTube videos I have seen are these:

R.R. Slugger: There's a BAD Bricklink Update Coming...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGRxNX8Cg_o

DuckBricks: Why Would Bricklink Do This? Is Bricklink Stupid?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk47Wb18ibg

In this post I will address the second one:

I'll begin with a quote from Chris which he used as part of the introduction:

“I decided to take down every single one of my wall displays and actually
consolidate them to be a lot better, neater, tighter, and more concise to allow
myself to be able to put up even more stuff.”

What Chris is doing with his collection is, in a way, similar to what we are
doing with the BrickLink catalog.

I do actually agree with the overall sentiment from this video. However, there
are several points I would like to challenge:

Quote from the video: “from the beginning, the catalog has just been
continuing to grow and grow."

Not completely true. There have been major corrections like this in the past,
and we make minor corrections regularly. One of the things that is often missed
by the average BrickLink member is that we reject the overwhelming majority of
variants. That means that the BrickLink catalog only grows to the extent that
we let it grow, and there are considerable restraints even now on the number
of variants we will accept.

2 x 2 Hinge Brick – this is a merge between 30389c and 30389b. It does
not involve the hinge brick without axle hole 30389a.
[p=30389c]

Part No: 30389b Name: Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical and Axle Hole
*
30389b Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical and Axle Hole
Parts: Hinge

Part No: 30389a Name: Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical without Axle Hole
*
30389a Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger Vertical without Axle Hole
Parts: Hinge

While we are talking about this early brick that many of you are excited to distinguish,
I will point out that we are missing inventory information in 15 Sets and 1 Gear
Item:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=30389&in=S
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=30389&in=G

The determined version is only in 10 sets currently. If this variant matters
to you, please help us fill out the data in the BrickLink inventory system.

A correction concerning the 2 x 2 hinge brick:

“As a correction to the video, it has become clear that one of the examples
I mentioned, the 2x2 brick with click joint, is NOT being consolidated when it
comes to axle hole versus no hole - just the specific molding type of axle hole.
However, all other examples mentioned are accurate, and from a database point
of view, I still stand by my original sentiments in the video that this change
ideally should not be happening.”

However, there are indeed issues with the other examples:

Click Hinges –The number of teeth does not affect the number of locking
positions. A lot of people think that when they see the distinction in the catalog,
but it’s actually not true. This misunderstanding is one reason we want to remove
this distinction. These are simply cosmetic differences on a part that is not
typically used for cosmetic purposes.

Part No: 60471 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 Locking with 2 Fingers on Side
*
60471 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 Locking with 2 Fingers on Side
Parts: Hinge
[p=50340]

1 x 4 Clear Bricks – The 1 x 4 frosted bricks will be merged with the
1 x 4 standard brick (3010), not the specialty brick without tubes underneath
(3066).
[p=3010f3]

Part No: 3010 Name: Brick 1 x 4
*
3010 Brick 1 x 4
Parts: Brick

Part No: 3066 Name: Brick 1 x 4 without Bottom Tubes
*
3066 Brick 1 x 4 without Bottom Tubes
Parts: Brick

Smooth Slopes – there was a comment in the video that the result of a
merge will be a “random hodgepodge” where buyers may receive slopes that don’t
match each other. But this is actually the condition of the marketplace now,
pre-merge.

The oldest slopes had a very heavy texture (see photo below), whereas newer ones
have much less texture. And in addition to the slopes that seemingly have no
texture, real-life listings contain everything in between.

The presence of “Smooth” entries in the catalog gives the illusion that there
are only two grades of texture, but the reality is that listings based on subjective
criteria will produce subjective results. In fact, I’m pretty sure that much
of the Smooth Slope data we see in the set inventories is also subjective depending
on the experience of the contributor.

Community Poll – We don’t base our decisions on polls because if we did,
the collector community on BrickLink would have their agenda completely wiped
out by the majority who don’t care about picky details. Instead, we appoint very
detail oriented admins who represent the collector community and they are the
ones making the calls on variants on a day-to-day basis.

Date - Feb 1 or Feb 15 – Feb 1 was the original date we were going to
begin changes, but due to delays with the list of changes and requests to extend
the time a little, we pushed the date to Feb 15. However, the name and number
changes to tiles and the 1 x 1 round brick will start on Feb 1. Since these are
not merges, they will not affect listings in the same way.

This pretty much sums up the issue.

To reiterate- if you order a dozen 7 or 9 tooth parts right now from different
sellers, or even worse a dozen "smooth" or "not smooth" slope,
there is an almost certainty that you'll get a mixed bag based on your expectations.
That is, if you even cared enough in the first place, and didn't just select
the first listing that matched the part you're looking for.

That seems to be the trend of this thread- most folks misunderstand the variants

There _is_ a functional difference with

That is the truth.

Do exactly what Russell said to do. Try putting a 32064c on top of any 1x2 jumper

you find out.

  Hello everyone,

As a platform, we have decided to take a hard look at some of the mold variants
that we are currently asking you to recognize. For sellers, more variants means
extra sorting and extra work while pulling orders, plus the issues that arise
from variant misunderstandings.

For buyers, excess variants mean that it's harder to assemble a wanted list,
find stores, and ultimately obtain the parts you are looking for.

I have put together a quick Help page to outline these proposed changes:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2625

Notice the date on this is coming up quickly (Feb 1), so I'm not giving a
lot of time for discussion. I'm aiming for about 1 week of discussion and
then we'll give sellers 2 weeks to adjust the descriptions on affected items
if they wish to retain the distinctions.

I plan to construct a full FAQ page with answers to all your questions. This
will serve to inform users about what was done here in February 2024, and also
help point the catalog in the right direction in the future.

To get started, I'll list a few here:

1. This sounds like you're dumbing down the BrickLink catalog to make
it easier for new users. Is that what is going on?

Not really. There are many, many other variants we expect people to sort and
care about. These ones don't really seem to matter much, and some of them
(e.g., the minifigure heads) actually cause problems for the catalog that cannot
be corrected otherwise.

2. What if I really care about a certain variant that is going away? Can I
still buy and sell that variant?

Absolutely! You can add notes to your listings to make them as "determined"
as you wish. Buyers can still search within notes for extra details, or they
can simply observe them as they browse listings.

3. How do I know which exact variants will be merged? I only see one example
in each category.

Please ask in this thread and I can be very specific. Usually we are talking
about a handful of parts and the printed versions.

4. Has a merge like this ever been done before?

Yes, there was a precedent - the Headlight Brick with Slot:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1016584

It was marked for deletion a few years ago and was finally merged last August.

5. Are these the only parts up for consideration, or are there other variants
that will be merged as well?

This is all for now. Based on how well this goes, we may elect to remove other
entries later. However, we will keep all functional variants and important cosmetic
variants.

While we're all here and fired up about part variants... I'll take this
time to point out that the inventory for set

Set No: 8744 Name: Visorak Oohnorak
*
8744-1 (Inv) Visorak Oohnorak
47 Parts, 2005
Sets: BIONICLE: Visorak
includes a part variant
in a color that has never ever existed for that part. I'll give you a hint,
it's the one without a catalog picture

If we're so concerned about Bricklink being a historical database, can we
FINALLY fix this glaring issue?

I doubt the difference is intentional.

Agreed- almost imperceptible differences like this aren't worth the overhead!

However, we will keep all functional variants and important cosmetic
variants.

Other useless variants for future consideration:

Part No: 30193 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Ice Axe - 6-Rib Handle

I 100% approve. The proliferation of all these non-helpful variants only hurts
buyers and sellers alike. I also urge you to keep going with this- example, who

Would however you determine the price hold for other collections as well, say
all Star Wars sets from a given year?

I hardly doubt anybody would buy that collection without the big box that makes
it unique. You're best off selling each set individually.

been able to confirm some horse armor pieces, but this color displays a ton of
variation, so they don’t match other parts very well.

Is the left spear the older color? It’s slightly greener.

The left spear looks like the old color to me.

The only part I know I have in both color is 3848. Old PDG seems generally slightly
greener/brownish, but of course inconsistent. New PDG in my experience is a very
consistent, neutral grey. In this piece in particular, I find the older one to
have a more grainy texture, but I'm not sure that's something consistent
to go on. It's hard to get good lighting to show the difference though :c

Looks like old Pearl Dark Gray halberds do not have the part number or LEGO logo
molded ANYWHERE.

The difference between old and new Pearl Dark Gray is as wide as the difference
between common Pearl Light Gray and Flat Silver. This color definitely deserves
to be added here.

If new/old dark red isn't differentiated, there's no reason to do so
for this.

Mindstorms, City, Friends, Agents, as well as many spare/new parts (Technic and
else).

Some sets are stored in boxes, ziplock bags, and others are sorted by part type
in many boxes. I can provide sample pictures. Some sets are still in sealed boxes
too (Taj Maha, Technic, ...)

What is the best way to sell all of this, in as few transactions as possible?

I no longer have the time nor the energy and I would like to sell this sooner,
assuming I get a reasonable offer.

Any advice on how I go about this?

Make up a list or post pictures. I'd be interested.

Q parts, etc. If only parts that have been released in sets are allowed to

Agreed...
If LEGO has a problem with parts leaking from factories, fine. Address the problem
at the source. But DON'T take it out on the honest, hard working sellers
here by taking blind guesses as to what prototypes to allow or now...

I see today that all listings for [P=3626cpb2715,1] (and similar test prints)
have been removed from sale.

Why? These test prints have been around for yeeaaaars, long long before the leaks
started coming out of the mexico factory.

I see Bricklink's terms of service for sellers part 1.2.8 stats:
Exact quantity: The quantity of the item that you are listing for sale must not
be greater than the quantity you have physical possession of in the country
in which your BrickLink store is registered
. Drop shipping is not permitted.
The only exception to this is a custom fan magazine that has to be pre-ordered
and the Buyer is made aware of this in the item description

Is this a special case that Bricklink has set up for Kuboteka? If that's
the case, the wording of the terms should probably change.

It is definitely against Bricklink policy for them to sell that way. It may be
illegal for an American or Canadian to knowingly buy from a Russian store also.

I do hope Bricklink doesn't get into any legal trouble over this... International
sanctions aren't something I would want to play with! Leave it to James Bond

Why are there so many sellers with so much product and driving up prices insanely?
I genuinely would like to know if there's any good reason for it.

Just look through some of the listings for various parts (ie: road plates, chain
links, string with studs, tiles) ordered from most quantity to least, there are
quite a few sellers with an obnoxious amount of parts, and charging far more
per piece than a sane person would dare pay; Especially knowing it'd be cheaper
to order freshly fabricated parts, and sometimes entire sets, directly from lego.
Keep in mind handling fees, taxes/tariffs, and shipping all add to that nonsense,
so it will be hard to justify paying exponentially more for something people
get no guarantees about.

I would say that those stores shouldn't even be allowed to post any listings,
but I'm not the website manager. So if scalping and price gouging/fixing
are going to be a thing on this site, everyone and everything having anything
to do with it, or even references this site, is entirely worthless to me,
and likely others. Everyone else can enjoy the satisfaction that they've
got less sense than dollars.

Not the feedback people were looking for, was it?

Scalping? Price gouging?

I don't think those words mean what you think they mean...

Awesome. Guess we just do not have what people are looking for at the moment.

Not a major problem but staff was wondering if there was a glitch.

5 days without orders has only happened to us 3 times in the past two years.

So now #4.

A lot. I want a lot of stuff. I do agree with items others have mentioned to
reduce confusion within the website, but am going to take a different angle here.

I'll try to keep the list short and focus mostly on increasing what Buyers
want cause it falls in line with what sellers want, which is increased sales,
increased traffic, and increased daily excitement putting together Lego orders
for other lovers of Lego. I can't tell you the joy I receive every time someone
visits my store and then the additional joy of seeing an order that I can go
pack up and fulfill.

1) I want buyers to know that BrickLink exists so more of them come here vs going
to Amazon. I don't have the answers on how you advertise but I can't
say I've ever seen any either. Put it this way, there is not 1 person in
my life that I have discussed Lego with that has ever heard of BL prior to me
introducing them to it. We are not talking about a few people, this is hundreds
of friends and family. They all have children, nearly all those children love
building Lego, nearly all those children receive at least 1 Lego set for Xmas/birthdays...
yet none know where to purchase Lego beyond Amazon, Walmart, or Target. What
really hurts though is many of them really dislike the invoice system, see #2
below as they want to shop, checkout and then see their purchase in their mailbox.
They don't want delays in-between.

2) For Domestic Orders as I think this should be possible for every country but
I am not sure entirely - I want every store to be required to have Instant Checkout
for every order cause I am growing tired of seeing the posts about X seller is
now charging this, or personally when I see X seller charging Retail shipping
vs Commercial... every store can keep their terms on costs but each store should
be fully capable of figuring out what works for them to provide instant checkout
with shipping costs built in too at various levels. It isn't difficult to
know our own inventory and know how much shipping would approximately cost for
domestic orders and if a seller gets burned a little, like many of us have, we
learn from it and move on.

3) along with #2 as I don't see that happening, then stores that are 100%
instant checkout from a buyers perspective, should be highlighted for them so
a buyer knows that they can fully checkout and bypass having to wait for invoices
etc... we should be adapting to what buyers want vs buyers having to adapt to
what each seller wants. I want to buy things from other sellers too, but as
an example, am SOOOO tired of being quoted Retail shipping when I know they are
paying commercial. I decline every single quote or request for shipping cost
when I know it is much higher than what I know they would actually be paying
especially when I ship orders every day and have the capacity to look up what
actual shipping would be from Point A to Point B. Some terms specifically say
"retail" which is fine, I just avoid them, but many are not clear enough.

Maybe this list is too strong and maybe too difficult and some sellers would
be turned off by these ideas. I have no doubt that many sellers would dislike
having to implement the above, however, for the betterment of the site, I think
it would do wonders to really help streamline Bricklink to be more what buyers
want to retain them and gain new customers for everyone, and add in a little
advertising and this could really become the 1st place customers go to get their
Lego.

Thanks

I am all for either requiring Instant Checkout or highlighting sellers that do.
Even as a seller, I hate the guesswork when buying, and sometimes the sellers
come back with an out-of their... out of this world shipping price!

Here's a few ideas, in order of importance:
1. USA Shipping zones for Instant checkout (connected to the USPS API). This
one is stupidly simple, and should have been implemented 5 years ago now when
Instant Checkout was rolled out (5 years already! Wow!)
2. Part/set sales analytics. If I know what's most popular for me, it helps
me better serve my buyers.
3. Instructions/Boxes check boxes when listing sets. Check a box if the set has
instructions, and that is automatically part of the listing.
This one has two benefits:
Buyers can easily sort for used sets that have the instructions/box (similar
to how we can filter on New/Used condition.
And secondly, instant checkout can factor this in when calculating shipping.
How, you ask?
If the checkbox for if the set includes the Box is not checked, that Instant
Checkout can remove the weight of the LEGO Box (we have that in the set inventory,
after all!) from the total order weight. This helps out both buyers and sellers,
by creating more accurate Instant Checkout invoices.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me!

January 14 I started a OCR because the seller did not respond to my previous

January 18 still not a single line from the seller. I sent him a message that
he could either still ship the order, or cancel it. No response whatsoever.

So I'm left with an order that I have paid for and a seller that doesn't
respond.
Since I've contacted him a couple of times without response I feel it is
OK to name the name the seller and I warned him that I would do so if he didn't
respond to my complaint.

It's Brickiton and he has run into more problems, see his feedback https://store.bricklink.com/Royroy#/feedback

Store closed on January 15..........

I wrote above post without checking his recent feedback.
Now I did and this says all:

Could be a medical emergency that let the store auto lose after x amount days
and he can’t respond maybe?

I was thinking the same. It does seem to me that the store auto-closed. This
is one of my personal fears about running my store. That an emergency would pop
up and then un-shipped orders, NSS and store closed forever.
I wonder, does Bricklink admin review cases like these to reopen closed stores?
I hope everyone involved here gets their orders sorted out, or refunded at least.

Happened to me about 5 years back. Got home from a LEGO convention, suddenly
developed Pneumonia in both lungs- went from being just what I thought was a
cold to largely incapacitated the next day. Didn't even have a chance to
message buyers or shut down. Was out of it for about a week, and in that time
developed enough NSSes to close my store in my absence. Thankfully, BL admins
were very understanding, and my store was reopened within a few days. Most buyers
were very understanding as well- one buyer with feedback in the thousands was
a right piece of work about it, but I guess there's always got to be one
of those...). Just checking now, he's been back to purchase from me several
times since then, so I guess he got over it!

Free shipping normally means shipping is included in the price, as in you are
paying more than you would for the item if shipping was not included.

It just about works for sets, but not parts unless it is free shipping over a
threshold.

To add to this... You're still paying for shipping, one way or another. Just
shop around to make sure you're getting the best deal.

That's a perfectly reasonable position. Out of curiosity, though, doesn't
the size convey that information? Or do you prefer words to numbers? For example:

Not everyone reads size and converts it to item instantly words like the giant
or small can help quickly confirm at a glance when looking at something before
listing it or when pulling it to ship it out

  Wheel Small
Wheel Medium
Wheel Large
Wheel Giant

Wheel 27mm
Wheel 36mm
Wheel 52mm
Wheel 96mm

I'd like to understand your reasoning better. A similar use of size, BTW,
is in the hoses (where words couldn't describe them all).

I don’t mean to bud in but those are more so very similar and are easier to mentally
picture size wise (I’m probably making no sense rn)

Exactly what Nubs is saying. That way when quickly looking at one of the parts,
I know I've got the "large" wheel, instead of having to try to remember that
it's 52mm... It's just easier for quick recognition than just having
numbers. That and newer members might not know what to do with that number.

Title Section 1: The word "Wheel."

Title Section 2: Theme, use, or both. See below.

Title Section 3: Actual, measured size of the wheel hub in the format
"10mm D. x 10mm."

Title Section 4: Any other information deemed necessary.

Sections are not separated by punctuation. For Title Section 2, the theme generally
takes precedence. Theme can be followed by use, as in "Wheel Town Motorcycle."
Although there are no firm rules for selecting the contents of this title section,
the preferred length is no more than two words. Themes should be loosely interpreted
into only a few basic categories (Fabuland, Space, Town, Technic, etc.) to reduce
the total number of themes and avoid more groupings than necessary.

Title Section 3: Theme, use, or both. See below.

Sections are not separated by punctuation. For Title Section 3, the theme generally

Here are the pros and cons of each approach, followed by examples already in
use.

For Approach 1 the pros are standardization and grouping of similar items (like
Technic or wagon wheels). The con is that 82 of the 212 wheels already use the
second approach.

Part No: 33212 Name: Wheel Wagon 56mm
*
33212 Wheel Wagon 56mm
Parts: Wheel

For Approach 2, the pro is a very straightforward system, where every single
wheel is ranked by actual size. The con is that groupings of similar items will
be lost in the places where such groupings currently exist.

Part No: 50862 Name: Wheel 15mm D. x 6mm City Motorcycle
*
50862 Wheel 15mm D. x 6mm City Motorcycle
Parts: Wheel

For Approach 3, the pro is that all unnecessary information is moved to a tagging
system. The cons are that titles will be visually lacking and the tag system
may not be robust enough to support sucking most of the information out of titles.

Part No: 56904 Name: Wheel 30mm D. x 14mm
*
56904 Wheel 30mm D. x 14mm
Parts: Wheel

My preference is Approach 1. I think it makes the most sense given the current
system, even after tags come along.

I will say, based on extensive experience, that BL is highly unlikely to change
much in the Wheel category, at least not in any kind of timely manner (meaning
within the next five years). But I have the wheels and my wish is that everyone
could benefit from this collection. So I'll make a one-time submission of
the data and change requests.

The only question is this: which approach would members prefer I use to submit
the data? Thoughts or input?

I would like the Train Wheels grouped, the Technic wheels grouped, etc, hence
I would prefer Approach 1

And I agree that words like "small" "large" "giant" don't hold valuable info.
I would prefer the actual wheel rim(1) dimensions on every wheel.

(1) Not the corresponding former tire dimension that some wheels carry:

Part No: 2998 Name: Wheel 81.6 x 34 Six Spoke
*
2998 Wheel 81.6 x 34 Six Spoke
Parts: Wheel {White}

Thank you!

I would prefer that terms like "small" "medium" "Giant" remain for wheels which
are varying sizes of the same piece.

If these were alternate figures in sets, why are they not showing as such in
our catalog?

Best not to set expectations for buyers too high, when the chance is infinitesimally
small.

  Hello,

I'm very sorry that you were banned from our Forum. We need all the LEGO
experts we can get in our community!

I think it's really important to say that my experience as a submitter within
this past last year has been very, very positive. The current admins are kind,
knowledgeable, and productive. I never have a delay in working on any project
for new inventories. The inventory comparison tool and other updates have made
inventory work easier than ever.

Submissions for older catalog items understandably have a lower priority. I take
care with all submissions to be as accurate as possible, do the necessary research,
and give the admins as much documentation as I can. This reduces the amount of
time and work needed from them before approval. I have offered assistance to
anyone on the Forum who has questions or would like to improve their own catalog
submissions. Not everyone wants to do this or has the time to try, but the offer
is there!

Yes, there are many things about our catalog that are waiting for improvements.
Please do be careful when pointing out everything that is wrong that people may
not understand that the criticism would be unfairly focused on our current admin.

Thanks and take care,
Jen

I primarily make new catalog entries for old gear, coming up on 20 years old
stuff now. I currently have some new entries languishing in purgatory, so I am
curious what I can do to help the catalog admins when filling out these entries.
I always include weight, dimensions and photos, as well as as much information
I can in the comments.

  4. The ability to part out sets at X% of the 6mo average. I love Bricstore, but
would rather be able to do it all in BL.

You can do this quite easily by putting the items into your store with a specific
remark, then running an inventory update to put a sale on all items with that
remark. Use the same remark on all sets parted in one day, and do the lot in
one operation.

  5. A way to put items that have been in your store for a certain amount of time
on sale, and keep increasing the sale until they sell.

Again you can do this through an inventory update, by selecting items that are
X days or older and setting the sale level. Do it on items that are 30 days or
more first, then 60 days, then 90 days (or whatever) so that you correctly apply
all the sale tiers to the correct items. That might be better than automatically
putting items on sale since if you make an error and BL automatically changes
the price at some stage in the future, you may not be present to check it is
correct before it sells. Whereas when you do it manually, you can close store,
add sale, check it has worked correctly, reopen store. Plus you always approve
manual changes.

I understand there are workarounds. But if we're on the topic of improving
things....

when I have called customer service they are polite, sympathetic, and prompt.

This call has none of that, the CSR acted like I was a bother for them and kept
talking over me. I was able to finally report some missing pieces from my recent
PAB order (which has honestly gotten better than when it was the new combined

Was this a one off? I don't know, but I certainly hope I don't have
to deal with them again anytime soon.

Have you experienced anything like this recently? I hope this is NOT a trend
that will continue since Lego customer service has always been stellar, until
today.

I've also had subpar experiences with TLG's customer service lately.
It's not a great sign.

No, the lighter color is the one that's pearl light gray. The darker in this

Does that have anything to do with the battery tray sliding around?

details and to make them consistent with the names of other Castle Minifigs,
so I cannot see a clear reason for them to be rejected. If the issue is that
they should have “Castle in the Forest” in the name, a catmin could simply add
that in parentheses at the end of the names, though the inclusion of set names/numbers
in Minifig titles is not standard practice. 😕
I would appreciate some clarification on this, as it will help me improve my
submissions.
Thank you.

Minifig No: adp013 Name: Castle in the Forest Archer - Male

Minifig No: adp016 Name: Castle in the Forest Smuggler

My guess is the names you proposed are just too long. Description is good, a
paragraph per figure makes things harder. Tags are coming soon, I suspect they're
waiting on that to handle more searchable terms.

I'm not sure what you exactly wish, but with BrickStore you can almost do
whatever you want, either when parting out, or just after in the list (sort,
select, delete...) a few clicks.

AFAIU, they don’t want to choose between importing the Counterparts or not, they
want them imported as an assembly and removed from the Regular parts.

Import a car: get the 4x wheel+tyre assemblies but not the 4x wheels + the 4x
tyres.

One problem with that is that there’s no link between the Counterpart and its
component parts… except its inventory.  So you need to import the set inventory
with Counterparts and remove all the inventories for the Counterparts.  That
can be long if it’s not automitized.

We have wanted for years to be able to A) make sure the parts in the counterpart
assembly are also in the regular sections of the inventory (sometimes they aren't,
due to variants or mistakes) and B) offer complete flexibility to break or consolidate
any individual part or minifigure (or set, book, gear) during the partout process.

So, for example, someone could part out all the normal minifigures in a Star
Wars set whole and part out the droids / robots as parts.

Or, they could select an animal assembly such as a crocodile to part out whole,
and the parts would be subtracted from the regular items. Currently we have a
rule that all animal assemblies must be listed whole in the regular section of
the inventory. This is to enable partout in the way that most sellers prefer.
But with the new functionality, those crocodiles will be moved to the counterpart
section.

This sounds like a fantastic change! Are you free to disclose where this falls
on the development roadmap?

This is exactly the roadblock that I am running into right now- to manually select
every piece for an assembly and delete them from the parts list can be... arduous,
especially if the parts are used in the assembly, and elsewhere in the set...

I'm pretty sure not

I thought custom stickers were allowed as stickers are part of Lego culture.

They are. But the stickers cannot contain any IP or be dependent on IP, such
as custom stickers for an existing LEGO model.

So if someone were to create a sticker of a generic minifigure head- would that
be allowed, or would that fall under "using IP"?

BrickStore is fantastic, and I agree once you try it, you'll never go back.

My only gripe with it is, when searching for a part, it includes every part that
includes that keyword. So when searching for "2 x 3 plate", it will show me every
piece that is 2 x 3, instead of showing me the closest matching part first.

Hello, helpful people!
I have a quick question on how Bricklink charges fees. If a credit is applied
to an order after it has been placed (but before it is paid), will the seller
still be charged BL's fee on that amount, or on the final total?

Thanks!

Does anyone else notice anything odd about this store? They had zero sales as
of yesterday afternoon. They had 4 Green Grocer sets listed which sold out overnight.
Today they posted several more. They also added more high end sets like the
Black Pearl, all in numerous quantities.

They only have two reviews for sales which only took place yesterday. Both reviewers
have zero feedback. Also, they are offering free FED-EX shipping anywhere in
the world. I have a strong suspicion this may be a scammer. If you agree, please
help by reporting this to the admins so they can check it out.

100% A scam. Perhaps there could be a feature where you can only list up to X
dollar amount within the first few weeks of opening a store?

Years ago, when I first shopped on BL as a new customer, I found the set I was
looking for in a new store for a great price. The price was too good to be true.
The seller had a good number of the set I was looking for along with a few other
highly sought after sets. Long story short, the seller was a scammer and I had
to file a claim with PayPal to get my money back. I remember posting the issue
here on this forum and getting laughed at for falling for a scam. True story!

I came across a store just now that is set up the same exact way and it gives
out the same vibe: all expensive, highly collectable sets with a quantity of
3 to 5 of each, small inventory, no loose parts or minifigs, no feedback, brand
new store, and the biggest red flag: free shipping via Fedex.

I've been away from BL since pre-covid so it's been awhile. From my
understanding, new stores aren't easy to open here anymore. This one may
very well be legit, but it certainly seems very suspicious. I would hate to
call out an honest seller so I won't name the store here, but I would like
to know if that sort of thing still happens, and if something seems off, what
is the correct procedure to follow, if any?

It's still very easy to set up a store. Bricklink wants to be welcoming to
newcomers, and 99% of all new stores are honest AFOLs.

Easiest way to verify would be to request a picture of the set for sale, with
a piece of paper with your username written on it.

It's listing the diameter by the thickness- I don't see what the problem
is here?

The packing dimensions were XxYxZ where X, Y and Z were all different. As already
noted in the thread, they have been changed.

Ahh, my bad- I read the OP as questioning the name dimensions.

will be a great big help to me.

Sorry, not really the place to ask. I'd recommend a more MOC-based forum.
Additionally, the question is very vague.

So that's $150 per? No it's 50% off the selling price for 10 sets parted and shipped no minifigures.

What's the price per set then?

Why you are doing such a bad things during so hard times in Ukraine.
I cant even make my sons happy during the war we have here in Ukraine and you
are acting like....

Unblock my account and give me a chance to buy gifts for my sons birthday.

Thank you!
GLORY TO UKRAINE!!!!

Preface: I fully support you and your country against a tyrannical facade for
a country currently trying (failing) to invade.

That said, one reason accounts from your country could have been suspended for
now is to stop any ransacking invaders (or other ner-do-wells) from picking up
the computer and credit cards of families forced to leave everything behind,
and placing fraudulent orders on their behalf, thereby scamming innocent people

Keep up the good work! YOU WILL PREVAIL
