I'd never got around to inventory my collection of instructions, and thanks
to the help of my wonderful partner, it is now done!

Please check them out, there are some rarities in there and they are occupying
a whole cabinet in my apartment so every sale is reclaimed space!

Thanks, I submitted it successfully with 0 for the stud dimension, along with
the image.

[p=14769pb750,115]

In Catalog Requests, randyf writes:
I believe the reason it probably was not working for you was because you were
not entering a zero for the final stud dimension. You have to enter 2 x 2 x 0
on the form instead of just 2 x 2. I haven't tested this to be sure, but
I got it to work the first time with all of the information you provided plus
the added zero.

In any case, the part has been added as

Part No: 14769pb472 Name: Tile, Round 2 x 2 with Bottom Stud Holder with White Lion Head in Red Circle Pattern (Sticker) - Set 70500
*
14769pb472 Tile, Round 2 x 2 with Bottom Stud Holder with White Lion Head in Red Circle Pattern (Sticker) - Set 70500
Parts: Tile, Round, Decorated

You can now submit the Inventory Change Request to add it to set 70500.

Cheers,
Randy

The Auto-Select feature isn't the only one that buyers use. But dredabeast's
store specifically stunts the Auto-Select engine with rock-bottom prices, a tiny
lot limit and a conditional but in practice unavoidable fee per order.

In Selling, tec writes:

just disappointed in the systematic error so I don't really care.

Yes, after the first round debacle with a limit of 5, they reduced the limit
to 1, see https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/support/main.page

Section "July 7th Program Update", question "Why are additional pre-orders a

I'm sorry you got Georgia Bricked.

As the others in this thread said:
- Always check carts created with Auto-Select before paying, several limits beyond
the lot limit aren't checked during the search.
- Least favorite the difficult and price-baiting stores.

I may add:
- You can convert the content of a cart into its own Wanted List so that you
can more easily order these parts only from different stores.

In Suggestions, Snippy1 writes:
I created a default list of approximately 800 items. The auto select returned
7 stores. I placed orders in the first 6, the 7th would not let me as the seller
had a limit of 3 lots per sale. My order with him was comprised 139 lots. He
has not responded to messages asking for a bypass password, an option he offers.

It would be nice if the auto select could either allow you to exclude particular
sellers, those with lot limits and/or provide some warning up front that a limit
exists prior to placing orders.

I have had to recreate the subset of items in another default list to only now
have another 5 carts created, one of which is the offending store.

I am unable to complete my in a logical manner. Were I able to manually do so,
it will be at significantly increased price do to the added shipping/handling.
I had 4 or 5 projects I was trying to complete. None of them can occur now.

After updating the Wanted quantity of a part through the wanted list modal on
a set inventory for example, I had the negative surprise of finding out the Have
quantity had been reset to 0.

Reproduction steps:
- Add a part to a wanted list, set the Have quantity to 1.
- On an inventory featuring the same part in the same color, click on the Add
to Wanted list heart-shaped link.
- In the modal, select the wanted list, the existing Wanted quantity shows.
- Change the Wanted quantity, click on the Update button.
- Go back to Wanted List.
- The Have quantity for this part is now 0.

It's a micro scale model, so I'm not surprised about this relatively
low part count.

It's what the artist himself claims at least. This (I think) is the first
Instagram post revealing the finished build last year: https://www.instagram.com/p/CIYN_3Ppck5/

Similar parts total to his earlier Imperial Rome build, but dwarfed by this year's
114k piece 1st Century Jerusalem display!

67,000+ (~1,300 unique) - I read that as at least 67,000 pieces, likely more.
Still impressive though.

When you create a cart from the Auto-Select feature of the Wanted List Buy page,
the cart knows what wanted list the parts ordered come from. But once the order
is created, this information is lost and this feature is the only remaining way
to link an order with the Wanted Lists, but it matches by Element, which means
all the Wanted Lists including the same part with the same color will show up
in that search.

The main caveat is that a part ordered in a specific color from a "Not Applicable"
color wanted list item will not match the relevant item in the same wanted list
in the "filter by order" feature. But it will match all the items in the other
Wanted lists with the exact color ordered even though they weren't the "source"
of the ordered lot.

In Suggestions, Gaston.La.Brick writes:
I'm not sure I fully understand the suggestion, but I did want to mention
a feature you might not be aware of.
When you list your placed orders, you can select the scroll icon to see which
items in that order are on which wanted list.

Thanks.
I like to charge actual shipping cost. BrickLink still hasn’t implemented USPS
zone shipping methods correct? That is why I don’t have it enabled.

I'm in the same boat, I quote the exact USPS shipping price and for First-Class
Package at least, it depends on the delivery state, which isn't included
in shipping zones yet. It also depends on the weight, and for used sets without
instructions not box it doesn't match the recorded weight in the catalog.

This is tricky because shipping methods vary with an order size. It's barely
able to take into account the existing limits on order size (minimum order amount
is supported, maximum lot number isn't), so I don't think it would be
easy to filter on shipping carrier.

The closest we have right now is the filter on stores that don't ship to
your registered address. It isn't perfect, I've been suggested stores
supposed to ship to me but when going to check my cart out, it said that it wasn't
shipping to the state of New York.

In Suggestions, That_1_Guy writes:
Most stores provide information on what they use to ship, and it tends to be
pretty standard - USPS, DHL shipping (for international), et cetera. Information
on the average range of ship times for those shipping methods are available on
the site of the shipping method. So why not add the ability to filter for those?
Or, at least, filter by shipping method?

I've told several people getting into LEGO is the safest collection hobby
someone with kids can get into because if a model falls, it can be repaired.

It may not be the funniest, but at least it's possible, unlike several other
hobbies with variously fragile subjects like antique porcelain!

In LEGO, Hardstone writes:

People will 53 inches to display a Lego Luxury Oceanliner can't be that common.

As an enthusiast of the Titanic, part of me feels like I may want to get that
set some day. Another part of me is worried about what might happen if someone
tries to move the ship from where I have it displayed and drops it.

You see, I don't live alone. I have relatives living with me. Should one
of them decide to take it upon themselves to clean my personal room without my
input someday. If while cleaning they try moving the ship and it flies apart
after being dropped, at over 9000 pieces, it will be a nightmare to find all
the pieces to put it back together.

Hi, I'm sorry you are worried about sales, but also you only have had 45
orders so far, and only 14 of them were placed in the last 6 months. Please take
a deep breath, it's going to be okay.

If you are staking your livelihood on this activity, I suggest you start doing
some market research to figure either cheaper inventory sources or a more competitive
pricing.

In any case, if you're looking for gross sales, more inventory is always
better.

Did you use a Wanted List for this search? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/list.page

And the associated Wanted List Buy page? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/buy.page

In My Own Creation, neiluk88 writes:
Thanks for the excellent tips, I will print them and use for future models.

I did encounter quite a few issues with Brick Link. Some sellers said they had
300 parts, but then said they made a typo and only had 30, etc. This involved
lots of searching around, more expense, rebuild, etc.

This was the problem with making a model with most rare parts. I spent more than
I intended building this model. Originally it only came to £160, but in reality
it soon increased when parts were rare and people only had a few quantities of
each, meaning multiple purchases from several countries. I just hope I've
picked the right colour grey, after all the stress I've been through making
this.

In My Own Creation, SylvainLS writes:
In My Own Creation, neiluk88 writes:
  Hi all

Hi,

  […]
What I found frustrating with Brick
Link, was that you didn't know a part was rare or out of stock, until you
had built it and imported it into Brick Link. So I had to go back into my design
a few times and replace types of brick and rebuild the model a few times. This
caused a lot of additional work.

Actually, Studio tells you the price of each part (you can choose your currency
and if which value to consider) and which colours it comes in.

Method 0:
Select a part (or several!) in the build area and the price is indicated in the
status line (the semi-transparent line at the bottom of the build area).

Method 1:
Menu Model, entry Model Info opens a window with all the parts in the model that
shows their prices (per unit and total) and the total estimated price for the
whole model.

Method 2:
You can also check the box “Hide Unavailable Colors” in the colour palette and:
0. only the colours the selected parts come in are available in the colour palette,
1. dollar signs appear next to each colour: more $, more expensive,
2. the price is shown in a tooltip if you let the mouse over a colour for a couple
seconds.

Method 3:
There’s a similar box in the colour palette of the Building palette (the White/coloured
square at the left of the search box)… and then only the parts that exist in
that colour are available and their name is in Yellow if they are expensive.
(But be wary of this checkbox because many forget it’s on and then think parts
aren’t available at all while they are only not available in the selected colour.)

Method 4, sort-of (no price, only “known” or not):
In the steplist, parts that are in a colour that’s not “known” by the catalogue
(= they don’t appear in an inventory in that colour) have a yellow ! on the left
and a tooltip saying the colour is not available.
The old “check errors” at the bottom of the steplist or the new Color Validator
can tell you which parts don’t exist in the colour they are painted in.  And
the Color Validator can also repaint all of them in one or two clicks.

  […]
The other challenge I had was that I didn't know there were different versions
fo grey brick. I just hope that my choice of Light Grey (older style),is a right
one.

It may be for the accuracy of your build but it’s definetely not for your wallet:
if, as you put it, Light Gray is “older style,” it’s because production has stopped
in the Great Colour Shift of 2003-2004 and now all bricks produced are Light
Bluish Gray.

Parts that are not produced anymore are generally more rare & expensive than
common nowadays parts.

The building does look white and silver, and grey. It catches the light,
so it depends on the angle of the sun. I hope it turns out well in real life
when I eventually finish it. I will aim to finish it before Christmas. Would
be keen to hear your comments. Cheers. Neil

Nice build!
Don’t forget to post a pic once really built

here’s the blunt of it: Bricklink isn’t suited for selling in bulk. If you do
not want to make sure your sets are complete or inventory every single part,
your best bet is to sell the whole lot on local marketplaces like Craigslist,
Facebook Marketplace, even NextDoor.

Estimating the worth of a bulk lot without knowing the sets that came into it
and whether there are minifigures or not is futile, but BL sellers usually buy
bulk LEGO by the pound between $2 and $10 per pound.

In General, shadowlinks writes:
  Hello all,

hopefully there's a suggestion that helps...my kids (and myself) have over
150 sets all complete that I would like to sell, I can't sort them, its a
ton, currently occupying 4+ 20gl storage containers. Is there any ideas on how
to set a value to this? How/Where to sell it bulk? (I realize im on brick link
lol).

Any ideas or suggestions welcome,

Thank you

First of all congratulations on your design and buying parts for it! Building
a self-designed MOC is a great if a little expensive experience.

I remember your recent post about the cost of your MOC and I replied some general
cost-saving techniques, I hope some were useful to you but I feel like I was
already too late for this particular project.

A few thoughts:
- “Light Gray” refers to a color LEGo stopped producing parts for in 2003, going
instead with “Light Bluish Gray”, same with “Dark Grey”/“Dark Bluish Grey” and
“Brown”/“Reddish Brown. As a result, “Light Gray” parts availability has been
decreasing over time as LEGO doesn’t make them anymore, and their price is generally
higher than “Light Bluish Gray” counterparts LEGO started producing from 2003
on.
- As I suspected from your original succinct description of a “tower building”,
you probably have a lot of structural parts hidden inside the model that you
could have ordered in the cheapest color available.
- Studio has a BrickLink integration once you log in with your credentials where
average prices for different parts/colors are shown directly in the editor, including
an estimate of the model’s average cost. This allows for cost optimization directly
in the editor long before the first part list export in a Wanted List.

There's a link to the instruction page on Rebrickable for this MOC in the
description of the YouTube video: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-76959/M_longer/42114-mining-dump-truck/#details

From there you can purchase a copy of the instructions by creating an account
and submitting your payment.

I've bought several instructions from Rebrickable and the quality has been
mostly good, however I've never bought from this designer. The Rebrickable
page states that Eric Trax designed and built the model, but M_Lauder made the
instructions for it.

Does anyone here have any experience w/ Eric's instructions and how/where
to procure them.
Eric only has a Facebook page which forwards me to Rebrickable?
Thanks!

Sorry about that, on top of straight up removing parts, here are a couple additional
general strategies for reducing the part price of a MOC:
- Reducing the number of lots: this might sound counter-intuitive because it
increases the total number of parts, but oftentimes splitting a large part into
2 smaller might bring the total cost down. This may lower the model strength
and stability but in the case of a square tower building, it should be pretty
safe to do so.
- Switching colors: some parts are only really expensive in specific colors.
Switching from Flat Silver/Metallic Silver to Light or Dark Bluish Gray may bring
the part cost down.
- Filler bricks: Identify the structural parts that never appear in the finished
model. You can use any color parts and especially any condition. Sellers will
usually slash prices for parts with heavy playwear, nicks, dents, scratches,
etc...

If you're using the Auto-Select feature of the Wanted List Buy page, here
are additional suggestions to optimize the total price:
- You can set the color of filler parts to "Not Applicable" in your wanted list
and the search will often give you the cheapest color for the relevant part.
- For expensive parts, the search might select stores carrying a more expensive
than average lot because the store is also selected for other parts. You can
set a Maximum Price in your wanted list for these parts so that these lots will
be excluded. I usually pick something close to the Average or Quantity Average
you can get from the Price Guide for the relevant part. It keeps a good parts
availability while hopefully saving on the total parts cost.
- Watch out for shipping fees. Every time you run the search, pay attention to
the number of stores the search suggest. Every store will require a separate
shipping fee, and sometimes saving £5 on the parts total isn't worth it if
it adds a couple more stores to the cart suggestion.

Thanks for this info, that's a shame.

I have designed a lego model of the tower in my town and its over 1,700 pieces.
A lot of the pieces are rare and I'm getting quite a high price for all the
pieces. (£350). I have tried reducing the number of bricks down but its still
rather high. I guess I'll have to just save up or keep trying to refresh
it daily.

Hi, there's no automatic relationship between orders and wanted lists. There's
a manual way to fill your wanted list with your orders though.

Once on your wanted list, click on "Apply Order" and pick the desired order,

There's a caveat though, since orders don't track which wanted list they
were created from, if you have multiple Wanted lists with the same part in the
same color, applying the same order will increase the Have quantity in each of
them, even if it wasn't meant to.

Additionally, not all orders come with perfect accuracy, so you may have to adjust
some Have quantity down if some parts of your orders end up missing/damaged/wrong

Keep adding lots, and buyers will come. If you’re impatient for sales, lower
your prices, either temporarily with a time-limited discount, or permanently
by adjusting prices.

It depends on the number of lots, not on the total number of parts. I doubt this

Yes, the BrickLink refund page shows the amount that comes from the seller and
the amount that comes from Bricklink.

The problem is that the page cuts the tax amount from the refund amount submitted
by the seller, this means that the seller has to play over/under with the submitted
amount to refund the correct amount for the missing parts since it needs to include
the tax in the first place which isn't intuitive.

Instead they should have added the tax amount refunded by BrickLink to the submitted
refund amount by the seller. I don't know what they were going for with this.

tell me how Bricklink refunds the tax money?

AFAICT, the seller needs to use the “refund” button on BL to make a refund when
taxes were collected by BL.

The easiest way to find stores for specific part/minifigures is to fill a Wanted
List

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/list.page

Then you can choose between these Pirates minifigures and add them to your wanted
list with the desired quantity:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=M&catString=61

Then you can go over to the Wanted List Buy page where you will be suggested
stores carrying the selected minifigures:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/buy.page

You may have to do a little bit of legwork to determine the cheapest minifigure
for a given look you're going for as the theme as an extensive history and
1990's minifigures are likely to be more expensive than more recent ones.

In Suggestions, Thestudfinder writes:

This method will limit the amount of shipping methods you have to create, while
firestar246's method will enable you to have a specific label for your free

Your technical question has been answered, but as for the original matter, I
don't think it was for nothing. Your terms don't shield you from legal
responsibility (for the condition of the package until reception) nor from negative
feedback.

It is always disappointing to receive parts more damaged than expected, no matter
what the lot description or the store terms say, and the least you can do is
sympathize with the buyer instead of publicly castigating them.

Selling less than ideal parts is an ongoing contentious subject, some buyers
are looking for these as filler because they're usually cheaper, and some
others don't want them at all. Bricklink doesn't make it easy so filter
them out, because the "Used" condition is currently too broad, it probably needs
a "Filler" condition that would help reduce expectation discrepancies between
sellers and buyers.

In the mean time, I think you'd be better off making your buyers happy than
asserting an irrelevant "conformity" in this case where subjectivity is key.

In Problem, Bricks_Planet writes:

Honestly, I much prefer to read comments in order of publication. It doesn't
mean that our Forum is out of date as my discord works the same way. It's
just a preference.

It wouldn't change in that regards, you'd still get the freshest topics

the regular thread view.

Yes. But I don't know that it can be easily implemented. Don't wanna
mess with the spaghetti code. I know it is too much to expect people to search
for replies. I just developed a habit of searching for my name or posts by me
whenever I check in here to keep up with things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can't speak about the ease of implementation either. I know a couple of
the technical prerequisites exist, but it just means it wouldn't be even
harder to implement.
