| | I think we could probably move forward with doing this thing even now, but the
first step is for someone to add the figures with plain torsos to the catalog.
I don't have the parts or figures necessary to do this, so I'm waiting
on someone to submit these figures with photos.

I can do this.
However there was no trace of any sticker sheets in these sets. Recall that the
sticker sheets in the data base have each two stickers so for two torsos. But
three sets out of four in my lot have each one minifigs. So either
- there should have been one sticker left for each of these three sets (889,
891, 6841) Since the previous owner was very organized but no sticker sheet was
found in the box, this is not likely.
- a different sticker sheet were included in these sets. (is this likely? so
many years and nobody added these stickers?)
- the minifigures were first stickerred by TLG and included in these sets.
By the way, I have asked this question in a facebook group for classic space
sets.

Reza said he bought a used set containing stickered torso figures and I believe
him.
Paul said he had some of the stickered torso figures as a child and as far as
he remembers the sets came with plain torsos and sticker sheets. He also said,
"Of course these sets are around 40 years old so I don't remember the exact
details" and I believe him.
You did not address the issue of whether your set came with plain torsos and
sticker sheets. You said, "Set 889 came with the stickered torso/minifig. Got
this as my 2nd set when I was 5-6y old." and I believe you.
Consider, however, the sources: one used lot and two people who are remembering
details from childhood. I don't remember much from when I was 5 years old.
As SylvainLS said, it's not that I don't believe anyone - it would just
be nice to have more substantial sources.
I do think that all of you are very likely correct and what is probably going
to happen is that I'm going to find a way to reflect the 1979 stickered/un-stickered
figures in the inventories along with the sticker sheets (and inventory notes).

Looks like the torsos themselves already exist (see the additional note for the
red one):

[P=973c09]
Still need the figures added, though.

I don’t think it’s about “believing,” more about having proof for the future.

Don't think any Lego part comes/came stickered (maybe an exception?), there
is always a stickersheet for that part or parts (a large stickersheet or a small
one, or more then one in a set)
