I’m new to the custom Lego builds and am learning how the community operates.
I’m building the Naboo starfighter and used the auto order function to match
me with sellers.
Most of the orders shipped but one was talking a while and when it shipped they
refunded me for 2 pieces they didn’t have. All fine so far.
But it’s really hard to just order two pieces due to minimum order requirements
and overpaying for shipping.
Is there a way to tell the sellers not to complete the order if you can’t complete
the whole order?
Also the seller is highly rated
Any advice or past experiences would help. Thanks!!

You could include a message saying something like “please do not ship unless
all parts are able to be shipped” or similar. In general 1 or 2 parts (depending
on order size) missing isn’t that rare of a thing and in many cases even if messaged
the buyer never responds so it’s somewhat normal to simply refund the missing
parts + some of the shipping cost and then ship out the order so that the order
isn’t delayed by potentially never receiving a response

Almost forgot to include that normally the seller still messages the buyer but
I was getting at they don’t always wait for a response

I have never done the same thing this seller did. In my opinion, this is not
professional and annoying for buyer.

I always message seller "the part X and Y in my order are vital and the single
reason I submitted this order. Please do not ship if you don't have them."

But it’s really hard to just order two pieces due to minimum order requirements

I would wait. Soon, you will need more parts.

Checking feedback's history is a most.
Between 0-2 non-positive feedback out of 1000 is considered very good.
If a seller has more non-positive feedbacks, I read them.

Any advice or past experiences would help. Thanks!!

I gave you a few advices. I still have 20463 more advices but let talk about
them later

Most sellers should contact you if parts will be missing, rather than just shipping
it. They should give you the option to cancel the order, or arrange for refunds
for the missing parts.

That's what I figured but I assume large sellers just push it anyways.

It shouldn't happen but it does.

Something else you can do, especially if the parts are cheap, is double up by
ordering the same parts from other sellers if you are already buying parts from
them. It helps avoid missing lot problems and gives you spares if some (used)
parts are not up to quality or if you drop any.

And if you are not in a hurry, space the orders a day or two apart. If one seller
has an issue, there are still others on your list that could provide parts to
make up for other sellers errors.

Thank you for the replay and making a good point. the refund total was $0.14.
but it will cost 6 bucks in shipping to order from someone else. I assume as
get further into custom builds you just naturally build up spare bricks.

Yes, you will naturally build up spares. It is annoying when you need just a
few cheap parts, so overbuying parts you are likely to need in future is a good
idea.
