Store: Vintage 80s & 90s Sets
Hi there, I am wondering if someone can help me understand pricing and what I
have on my hands. I have original complete sets of several 90s lego sets with
original boxes and instructions. I was going to list on eBay but then had someone
write me and ask to buy just the boxes and instructions of 3 of my sets for $150.
I'm curious why he would pay so much for this and before I reply, I'd
love to know if anyone can help me. Should I sell the boxes and instructions
separately? Would I get more if I list these sets here? I hate to break up a
complete set if it means I am dramatically reducing what I might get out of them.
I have the following sets: 1967, 1624, 1547, 1596, 6261, 8810, 6245, 1990, 6258,
6665, 1785, 6125, 6357, 6259, 6236, 6537, 6521, 6664. Any advice? The 3 he is
inquiring about are: 1547, 1596, 1624.

If in decent condition, the boxes and instructions for vintage sets can be worth
more than the parts, especially for some smaller sets where the set itself is
relatively common.

You can just lookup the prices here on Bricklink, but as long as you have buyer-only
status you can not sell them here. Note that on each set's detail page there
is a separate tab for box and instructions.

For everyone's better understanding in ease of through clicking, I have added
the macro tags in your post by adding [s=####-1] around each of your numbers.

this is my 2 cents, well from looking on BL there is none of the boxes for sale
and doing a quick search on Ebay there is sets with NO box and then there is
new in box. the instructions can be found depending on the new or used quality.
now if it was me looking to acquire the boxes and instructions *example* if i
have set 1596 and no box or instructions sells for say $35 and new in box sells
for on the low end $320 + tax and shipping, if you sold me the box and instructions
for $50, i then in return sell my set as a used but complete set for $275 or
what not, the same would go for the other sets as well. even though you sold
me those for $150 i just made a profit off you for more money. it's about
supply and demand (or looking for the next sucker). If i was you. i wouldn't
break them up. check BL and check Ebay you will understand $150 is kind of low
and your sets with no box or instructions will end up sitting collecting dust.
but in the end it's about what you wanna do. with me i would laugh at the
offer.
