I am aware Bricklink does not allow the sale of Star Wars monochrome prototypes.
Is there anywhere I can find an official statement from Lego in regards to this
issue? I am currently working on a documentary for my social media platform highlighting
some of theft and criminal activity involved around these figures and some of
the questionable dealings of 'resellers' and 'flippers' of Lego.
Any links to articles or information would be appreciated.

Thank you

They aren't prototypes.

I think it is important what language you use, especially if you are writing
an article about them. Calling them prototypes gives them a legitimacy that they
were created by LEGO for a reason, when the reality is that they are created
essentially on demand to sell to collectors as a profit making exercise and nothing
to do with testing or prototyping.

I agree. It is important to call them what they are, and not suggest that they
were made for some LEGO internal purpose.

They were being hawked in a LEGO selling Facebook group that I was a member of.
But I left when the moderators allowed them to remain.

The only thing I've seen from Lego about it in any official capacity is this
short post from New Elementary's Patreon:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/tlg-say-minifigs-49978140

(you have to be a patron to see it, I'm not going to paste someone else's
paywalled content here)

It's very clear by now that they ARE made with Lego molds at Lego factories
though, I think that interviewee was either uninformed or intentionally drawing
attention away from the nightshift figures.

There are transparent figures that were obtained legitimately, though. Some polycarbonate
(PC) figures were supposedly given from the China factory as employee gifts,
and the PC ones shown in my picture here were created by employees as part of
training in Mexico, and they were allowed to take some home. Neither of these
are to be confused with "nightshift" parts made more recently out of
MABS in Mexico.

As has already been mentioned, specific and accurate language is preferred. "Nightshift
figures" is a euphemism for theft of materials, etc. by employees, and others.

That is why I was asking if anyone was aware of any specific news articles or
official statements from Lego. I am well aware the forum tends to descend into
mindless back and forth over words and forgets about the original post/question

That's exactly why I put it in quotes the second time — I should have done
that on the first use as well. Clearly my whole post was intended to help differentiate
between stolen and not.

Finally, someone else is talking about this

Any chance you'll touch on resellers getting ahold of officially produced/licensed
minifigs in bulk from the same people that source these monochrome "prototypes"?

Don’t forget to draw the line with “recent” licensed figures as many “older”
ones could be gotten legally from lego even if themed
