Hello Bricklink community,

I'm a new seller on the site and I have one customer who paid for their order
directly to my PayPal account rather than through Bricklink.

The order is stuck in the "Pending" state. I don't know how to indicate
that it has been paid -- and I don't know how to ensure that Bricklink
gets their cut.

Advice your be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The only way to do it is to refund the customer through PayPal and have him or
her pay onsite.

Now - if there is no sales tax or VAT owed on the order then this isn't strictly
necessary, but you still won't be able to mark the order as Paid (or Shipped,
etc.).

This is only a problem if they're a US/International buyer where BrickLink
collected sales tax. If that's the case, you need to refund them and have
them use the PAY button via onsite.

If it's someone in Canada/no-marketplace tax buyer, on your order page, click
the two papers icon (Edit Order) to the left of the date and change the Payment
Status from Not Yet Paid to Paid. And you can also change the Order Status to
Paid.

To avoid this happening, create a separate email to use for either PayPal or
for BrickLink (so they're not aware of your PayPal email and can't send
it directly).

Thank you. There are no tax issues. It's just a matter of the Bricklink fee,
I think.

I am able to change the "Payment Status" on the "Edit Order"
screen from "Not Yet Paid" to "Paid", however I am not able to
change the "Order Status" to "Paid". It only gives me the "Pending",
"Processing", "Ready" and "Packed" options, same as the
order screen.

That's a good idea about changing the Paypal email address. I will do that.

Press save first, and then try it. If it still doesn't work, change it to
ready and press save. You should be able to set to Paid after that.

Order status and payment status are split on the edit order screen. You should
be able to set it to Ready, set payment status to Paid, then it should show as
"Paid" on the orders page.

BL never takes a fee directly out of payments - you have to pay after the end
of the month.

Thank you so much. It works by setting the status to "Ready" I can then
chnage it to "Paid". I guess in this way Bricklink knows it's paid
and they can add their take for the order to my bill.

You guys are great!!

Actually, it's more for your own record-keeping and the buyer's. BrickLink
assesses fees on orders whether they're paid or not (cancelling an order
triggers a credit).

Why? Governments passed laws for marketplaces to collect taxes and Bricklink
implemented it to work instantly when paying using Onsite PayPal and Stripe,
and as for now is the only way to be compliant.

To prevent this from happening in the future, I believe you can set an attribute
on your PayPal account, to not accept any payments without an invoice or a site
related payment connection.
