I normally don't use PayPal to print my shipping labels, but I had an international
buyer request priority shipping for a small value order, so I used PayPal Shipstation
for seller protection.

Even with International Priority Shipping, which advertises 6-10 days, the package
has gone back and forth across the US and still hasn't left after 13 days
(going to three different locations in California)! I'm assuming it's
because ShipStation uses a forwarding service (like PirateShip's Global Export
Rate), but it's still incredibly disappointing.

I feel terrible for the buyer, who spent the extra money for priority (they haven't
reached out yet regarding the package). Has anyone else experienced this using
ShipStation and is there anything I can do regarding getting some of the rate
back and pass back on to the buyer if they reach out?

I don't think ShipStation would use a forwarding service if you chose International
Priority - at least I would hope they wouldn't! For example, even if you
have Pirate Ship's Simple Export Rate you can still use USPS or UPS if
you like, and pay the higher rate.

Yes that was my thought too... The tracking information up until the Dec 21 says
shipped by GlobalPost, USPS awaiting item

Once it arrived at the USPS facility, it moved fairly quickly (even with the
storm delay in the midwest).

I also noticed on the shipping label, it wasn't the traditional customs form
printed directly on the box. The label was to the GlobalPost shipping facility
in California, where the customs form was sent electronically, similar to how
PirateShip Global Export does it.

  For example, even if you
have Pirate Ship's Simple Export Rate you can still use USPS or UPS if
you like, and pay the higher rate.

I should have just done that, but there was some spelling on the address that
I think flagged it as not being "verified" so I wanted to make sure that
the address was exactly what the buyer's PayPal account listed. I wasn't
sure if PayPal would say "tough luck!" if it wasn't shipped through
them regarding seller protection if the package did get lost or was deliverable.

stop stalking the tracking. There's no need to be concerned until the buyer
brings it up. You are driving yourself nuts for no reason

International buyers are used to things taking forever. Also its xmas. If the
buyer is upset, or leaves a neg, then deal with that, but you aren't going
to make it move faster checking on it.

As far as using a different service, you've gotten some good advice. I send
packages using shipstation overseas and don't recall it taking any longer
than normal. Its probably just backed up due to the holiday.

Sure, first class takes forever, but I'd never sent something international
Priority and was curious about other's experiences. $40 versus $11 is quite
a difference in price, and it could be the holiday delay, but if it doesn't
make much of a difference in timing, it's a service I'd rather not offer.

It was more of a question on how ShipStation does their business, since I don't
use their service. Having a package go from Utah to California and then being
sent back across the country to Chicago doesn't make a lot of logistical
sense, especially when paying for Priority service, but what do I know about
the nuances shipping routes.

Basically when I ship out of the USA I consider it like I'm throwing a package
into a void. Some arrive in days, some months. One took 10 weeks. Also, I've
never had an overseas package not arrive (probably 100+ shipped since 2015 here
and ebay)

If actually you watch domestic tracking, you'll see that similar things happen....ALOT.
I've had packages ping pong in stupid directions all over the USA, brought
to my attention by the occasional confused customer. I'm currently in TN
and have had so many packages go to Florida and sit there before going north
that it blows my mind.

I'm originally from Southern California, and would ship from there, and I've
had packages sit in hubs in San Diego and Los Angeles for 13+ days before, for
seemingly no reason.

anyway, I wasn't trying to come off as rude, just this happens and its fairly
"normal" and unless the customer is freaked out, don't sweat it.
As you ship more of these you'll see its not really any more risky that domestic,
just more money involved
