hello, I recently acquired a couple of old sets in a jumbled pile. It's
too soon to tell if the sets are complete. I think I have a castle set and some
kind of pirate. Some pieces are in good shape but others are in bad shape.
There are whites that are discolored, tiles that are dull, and scratches/nicks
on a lot of pieces. And the pieces are dusty/dirty. Are these sets a lost cause?
I can replace pieces with newer parts and try to be careful to not mix older
vs. newer colors but it'll be a lot of work. I'm leaning toward selling
the minifigs and just salvaging only the good shape pieces from the sets as parts
and tossing the rest.

Most likely there is still some value left—perhaps quite significant—but it will
take some work. You can sell the sets as-is with a note describing the condition
or go through the tedious process of restoring them to their former glory.

For some of these old sets, the most expensive and difficult parts to replace
are the minifigs. If you have all those, then most other parts are usually easy,
and cheap to replace.

I would not toss anything - at worst, you can give them away.

I feel old.

But see John P! I'd like to be as young as he's!

On a side note, does anyone know why people keep telling me to "never forget"
today? Maybe I have bad memory…

As your name checks, you're 13; you can't know about this
