| Just out of interest how long do you wait till you file an NPB? How many (if
any) messages/emails do you send out before?
If you file an NPB and buyer comes back requesting to cancel how do you move
forward?

I usually send a reminder 3 days after invoicing. NPB after 7 days. If I filed
the NPB and then they want to cancel after I have already tried to contact them
I would go throw with the process of the NPB so I can leave appropriate feedback.

1 NPB Alert, 1 e-mail (some may not receive mail from BL for variuos reasons).
Around 1 month after the order; I'm not hurry, I don't care.
Of course for a small shop this may be a problem, but I'd say that depends
the lots?

I'd (the more often) cancel the NPB and the order.
If this is really bad faith (and see my delay above), and/or communication is
problematic, I may continue the NPB process, but it's rare.
Additional tip: buyers often select "System problem" or such silly excuse
when asking for cancellation. If it's not justified, I cancel this and then
start cancellation with a more adequate reason, like "Buyer doesn't want
to buy anymore".
I guess BrickLink have stats about each reason, and I think it's good to
select the proper one.

I send a reminder after 3 days (both BL message and directly to the buyer's
email address). You can open an NPB after 5 days now (it used to be 7 days).

Never had this happen. If you cancel the order, you run the (small) risk of receiving
neutral or negative feedback. Only way to prevent this is to complete the NPB,
which automatically removes buyer's feedback.
Maybe ask the buyer to leave positive feedback, then cancel the order after
at least 30 days. Feedback cannot be changed after 30 days.

| I disagree. The system allows a buyer to leave feedback for an order that they
themselves asked to be cancelled. This should not be allowed but it is allowed.
The only option that protects the seller is to complete an NPB. However, an NPB
may be too harsh, especially if the buyer is new to BL.
The only way around this that both accommodates the buyer and protects the seller
is for the buyer to leave positive feedback and then the seller cancelling the
order after 30 days.
If you have a better solution besides "Don't worry about it" let's hear
it.

If I file an NPB and the buyer comes back requesting to cancel, I will usually
agree to cancel. Usually such buyers are apologetic and sincere, so I don't
mind.
However, if the NPB has already been completed, then I will not agree to cancel,
and will let the NPB stand. In this case, the buyer has ignored several messages,
plus an NPB so I have no sympathies left.
If I agree to a cancellation request, I always suggest to the buyer that as no
actual transaction has taken place, no feedback should be left, and I tell them
I will leave no feedback of any kind, and ask them to do the same. So far this
has never failed.
Thankfully, there are very few NPB's.
