Hi,

this goes out to all the shop owners, who are also LEGO collectors and builders.

Do you have a clear line between your items for sale and your personal collection
or do you treat them the same?

My situation is as follows:

I have a good amount of Lego which I call my personal collection. From this pool
I'm building MOCs or provide spare parts for my kids. This collection is
listed wholly in Rebrickable, so I know exactly what I have. That's helpful
to know which parts I have for a MOC and which I need to source. Also, this collection
is neatly sorted in drawers.

My Bricklink store inventory is very small yet, but kept apart from my personal
collection.
It is not neatly sorted (but should when it grows larger to pull orders fast)
and not listed in Rebrickable. So even if I want to pull parts that I need for
building out of my shop, I cannot make Rebrickable know that I have those parts.
I can only search my store for Wishlist items in a second step. I don't want
to build a second system of sorting parts the same as for my personal collection.

Treating my collection and my shop inventory the same would lead to some implications:
I could run one list of owned parts in Rebrickable, I would have only one sorting
system.
But of course there would parts which I really don't want to sell like vegetation,
grey parts or minifigure weapons, which I could use for the next Castle MOC.

I'm sort of stuck and I'm curious how others handle this problem.

Feel free to present your setup, I'll appreciate any help.

Yes I have a very clear line between both, one is strictly for pleasure, the
other is to supplement that addiction

They are not in the same location, separate listing system etc.
But both are not to be touched by my kids who have their own LEGO (from which
I feel free to take parts I need when I feel like it….)

Thanks for your answer.
Yes, the kid's Lego. Third pool.

How do you decide which parts go into which pool?

I was given 2kilos of Lego from a friend and I planned to include them in my
shop. But of course there are pieces which I do#Nt have in my collection yet
and on the other hand I have parts in my collection that could be sold because
I probably never use them.

I know, analysis paralysis, that's my problem.

First comes parts not yet in your collection, then go through your collection
for parts you can miss.

Right now I am in a pretty unique position, I only collect 2x4 bricks, so anything
else goes either to my shop or in the kids LEGO.

But before that, I would look at the monetary value of said piece and how much
fun my kids would have from it.
High value part, possible destruction from said part by my kids, sell it.

Yup
