I've been listing used minifig heads and there seems to be inconsistency
on these 2 varieties. Is there a consensus on which is which? I assume the hollow
studs are the ones with the little x inside but you can still see through.

Blocked open is the "x" ones
Hollow studs are solid inside, but hollow, as opposed to "solid stud"

Not to be a pedant but I think it's a Y - there are three arms instead of
four.
There are also a few "vented" studs around - that's just a single bar across.
