I am in the process of opening my own store, but I am also still a buyer.

I keep running into things that are conflicting when trying to operate as a buyer
and store under the same account. But BL forces me to be a buyer and store on
the same account.

For example as a buyer, I can see which store has blocked me. As a store I cannot.
This makes no sense. I have 5 stores that blocked me, and I have no idea why.
It has to be from not agreeing with what I say on the forum. Seems childish to
me, why would you want to lose out on sales just because you disagree with what
I say? Or it is from me giving negative feedback to a store who simply didn't
ship the item and didn't respond to my emails and then didn't refund
the money either?

Second issue is changing my shipping address. I have an address in Ireland, Netherlands,
UK and Germany to receive goods. But I cannot change my address as a buyer, because
my store will be closed and I have to through the whole verification process
again. Why can I not have several shipping addresses as a buyer, and just have
one fixed address for my store? Why does BL only allow for one address on my
account? It crippling. Never been on any website where you could not have one
billing/store address, but have different shipping addresses. I cannot even buy
a Lego set and have it shipped to a friend as a present. It means my store will
forced to close.

And I am not allowed to have two accounts either.

Is there anything on the roadmap to address this address issue?

Sometimes a 2nd account is allowed for just those circumstances - you should
contact the Help Desk and ask if you can create one.

Thanks, but I'd rather have them update the site so we can use shipping addresses
instead of flipflopping between two accounts.

Anyway, its sales lost, because I am forced to buy the set somewhere else now,
and I need two.

I doubtvthis will ever be an acceptable reason to have a second account. If BL
wanted more transparency there, they would just allow sellers to see both sides
of the stoplist.

Presumably they have only a single address field in the database. Maybe get the
person that receives mail in those countries on your behalf to open an account.

I don't want a second account to see who blocked me, just update the site
so that as a seller I can see the same thing as a buyer

As for asking persons to open an account for me, I am not going to ask my 80
year old parents to open an account on BL, as for other addresses, those are
forwarding services like Addresspal and Mailbox.de. I am also not going to ask
a friend to open an account so he can buy his own birthday present.

No, just allow for a buyer or store to have shipping addresses. It is a basic
thing. Never come across this address lock-in anywhere ever. Marketplaces like
ebay and Amazon are all set up to have several shipping addresses.

You should be able to change your address on checkout. We use PO box for our
store address, but when I just recently purchased on Bricklink a few days ago,
it had our normal house address all ready to go. So both address are in the BL
system.

Whether or not you're allowed to have another address out of country, I'm
not sure.

I cannot change the address before committing to buy and then the shipping cost
have already been added.

Also, why shouldn't I be allowed to have a shipping address in another country?
If I buy something from a German store and it cost me 25 euro to have it shipped
to Ireland, I should be able to be choose a German address, so the shipping would
cost me 15 euro and save 10 euro. We live in 2021, not in 1960. Borders are open,
people live and travel everywhere, technology has advanced. The world has gotten
a lot smaller in 50 years.

Well then, I'm not sure. But when I check my account setting, it shows my
house address, but when I click on an order placed in our store, it shows our
PO box address. Can't remember what I did when we got the PO box to change
the address, but we didn't change the main one.

Ok. Your PO address is in the same country right?

So this is the message when trying to change the shipping address

"You can only have addresses assigned to one country at a time. To change your
shipping country, update your main BrickLink address in Account Information."

So what I stated in my OP is correct.

Here an idea. I am guessing you use pay pal to pay??? Now for the seller and
buyer protections to be LIVE you need to send to the shipping address listed
on the pay pal account. If it sent to the shipping address listed on that paypal
account the buyer protection there to cover it. NOW the fact bricklink will
not let you change shipping address to match pay pal is insane as it leave Sellers
open to claims if they follow the bricklink shipping address and strips the seller
protection of them through pay pal. Any smart seller should be following the
shipping address on the pay pal account.. Just food for thought

Sellers used to be able to see this information and they changed it, for whatever
reason. Unless there is a good reason to change it back, I doubt they will. If
anything they could probably remove the ability for buyers to see it, that gives
equality and doesn't really affect anyone's ability to buy on BL.

As for asking persons to open an account for me, I am not going to ask my 80

So ask your parents for permission first and open it in one of their names.

There is an issue with buyers that keep changing countries in that their paypal
accounts remain based in their country. That means extra cross border fees for
the seller on what appears otherwise a domestic transaction. I wouldn't mind
if BL went the other way, and cracked down on this changing country behaviour.
If a seller chooses to be domestic only, then they should be able to deny international
transactions where the buyer sends a domestic forwarding address. Of course,
some sellers don't mind it, but others will.

Re the blocked users, I agree.

I disagree with the locking down countries for buyers, its close minded thinking.
I live in the EU, I am used to buying from other (EU) countries, and shipping
it to where I want.

As for opening an account in my parents name, that is going to cause even more
issues, now I have an account in my moms name, with her address, paying from
an irish paypal account in my name.

As for cross border payments, not true either. I have an irish paypal account,
that doesnt change with changing the shipping address. And stores can limit the
countries they ship to.

If you mean a dutch store doesnt want to get payments from a cross border paypal,
than that means he can only sell to dutch customers anyway.

if a store doesnt want to deal with cross border paypal payments, they can choose
to restrict this on their account and set up IBAN payments. And IBAN payments
are more expensive than paypal anyway if it is from EU to Non-EU.

Look, whatever, its all way too complicated as it is now, just allow for more
shipping address on an account, just like ebay and amazon, and problem is sorted.

I think a seller should have the right to choose especially where there are different
costs to them.

As for cross border payments, not true either. I have an irish paypal account,

What is not true? Are you denying paypal charges a cross border fees when someone
with an account in another region pays you? For example, if a German buyer (with
a German registered PayPal account) buys in GBP from a UK seller but puts a UK
address, this is not classed as a domestic transaction by PayPal, it is international.
But BL treats it as domestic, as the buyer claimed to be in the same country
for ten minutes before changing their address back. The seller pays more than
they would if it was domestic, down to the CROSS BORDER FEE. Even if paid in
the right currency, the cross border fee is still charged. Maybe you don't
have it for EU-EU transactions. It can be as high as an extra 2%.

If you mean a dutch store doesnt want to get payments from a cross border paypal,
than that means he can only sell to dutch customers anyway.

No it doesn't, if customers are allowed to change their BL address to a
Dutch one, then change back. They still have to sell to anyone so long as they
put a NL shipping address.

if a store doesnt want to deal with cross border paypal payments, they can choose
to restrict this on their account and set up IBAN payments. And IBAN payments
are more expensive than paypal anyway if it is from EU to Non-EU.

No, they can't. They can restrict the country on BL, but if buyers can change
their address to the seller's country to place an order, then they cannot
stop that buyer from buying and using a foreign PayPal account to pay, hence
increasing the PayPal fees charged.

Look, whatever, its all way too complicated as it is now, just allow for more
shipping address on an account, just like ebay and amazon, and problem is sorted.

Your problem may be sorted but other problems open up.

Ive worked for paypal for a couple of years, I know how it works.

"I think a seller should have the right to choose especially where there are
different
costs to them
."

They can, you can restrict shipping to countries in your settings.

"Are you denying paypal charges a cross border fees when someone
with an account in another region pays you? "

Eh? I didnt say that, paypal does charge cross border fees. And you misunderstand
how paypal works, it doesnt charge on delivery address, it charges on the registered
location of the paypal account.

"if a German buyer (with a German registered PayPal account) buys in GBP from
a UK seller but puts a UK address, this is not classed as a domestic transaction
by PayPal, it is international."

No, that is not how it works. It would still be a local transaction. paypal doesnt
care about the shipping address, it only cares about the funding source.

"No it doesn't, if customers are allowed to change their BL address to
a
Dutch one, then change back. They still have to sell to anyone so long as they
put a NL shipping address.
"

Correct, so they can only sell to dutch customers. They can restrict paypal
payments from other paypal accounts in their paypal settings.

"No, they can't. They can restrict the country on BL, but if buyers can
change
their address to the seller's country to place an order, then they cannot
stop that buyer from buying and using a foreign PayPal account to pay, hence
increasing the PayPal fees charged.
"

OK, they can still block those payments on their paypal account, or force a quote
before shipping.

It can all be resolved, but people rather think in problems then solutions.

By the way, I can change my address and buy from dutch stores. That is already
possible now, its just cumbersome. Using shipping address would make it easier.
In fact, you can set it up so that if an account signed up with an irish address,
uses a dutch shipping address, the order cannot be placed. And you can let stores
choose to enable or disable address match.
