Just out of interest I thought I ask if anyone here in the UK has had dealings
with the paid RAC recovery service ?

My wife contacted them and arranged recovery of a vehicle from Cornwall back
to Worcestershire, paid immediately and have just been lied to continuously since.

Told that the car might be recovered that day but maybe the next, so far so good,
I know it could take a day or two, maybe slightly longer.

She was told that they would keep us updated.

Nothing happened that first day, fine, no problem.

No contact the following morning so she decided to phone and check status as
they had to collect it from a garage, didn’t want to incur storage charges.

Told that they would check and get back to us in approx 45mins, two hours later
we were still waiting.

Phoned again and was told that the car had been collected at 11.00am and was
on its way.

At 7.30pm phoned to find out what was happening and got someone who just wanted
to get off the phone as soon as possible and cut you short when you asked questions
or tried to explain anything.

Told that they would contact driver, with an abrupt manner, and would let us
know, driver would contact us when he arrived.

Now 10.47pm and guess what, no phone call, no car.

I understand, as I posted further up, that it might take a few days and all I
wanted was a straight honest answer not this runaround and lack of real information.

They have not phoned us at all, they clearly lied about the car being on route
and we now have to check tomorrow with the garage that they have actually collected
the car.

Atrocious customer service, the recovery isn’t cheap and they want payment immediately,
clearly they couldn’t care less once you’ve paid.

I will say that we have had good service on breakdowns but this is unacceptable.

Won’t ever use this service again, didn’t realise that Cornwall to Worcestershire
went via Scotland.

You think that's bad? Don't ever use Green Flag then... And avoid their
app at all costs!

I used to use the RAC and never had any problems with them, except their prices
- they shoot up, year on year.

Only ever used RAC and the AA, thanks for the warning.

Having made further checks, found car hadn’t been collected until 2.00 pm according
to the garage, not 11.00am as RAC claimed.

Got a call shortly afterwards saying car was here but he was in a small lane
and couldn’t find us, the reason we tried to warn them the day before but customer
service guy wasn’t really interested.

He was over the road where some sat nav’s wrongly send people, I went out to
meet them and direct to correct location.

Driver was nice and helpful just as all other operatives at the sharp end.

He explained that they often use a local associate to collect in Cornwall and
they are bad at communicating, these guys drop the car in Exeter.

The RAC truck collects at Exeter and for this area they drop cars in Walsall,
West Midlands if their driving time is up or too late, it stays there ready for
the morning.

The car was then transported from Walsall to North Worcestershire, none of this
information was updated by customer services, had they done so then there would
have been no problem.

Finally we know where the car is, now to see if it can be fixed.
