Yesterday I had a set I posted deleted from my shop's inventory. When I checked
into it, it surprised me because the set was listed as "Used Complete" with a
note in the comments that one sticker was missing - which is the way I've
always listed sets here with missing stickers. Now apparently these sets have
to be listed as "Used Incomplete".

For the record, I am in favor of the change: it always bugged me that a set could
be listed as "Complete" and yet be missing stickers. Now it will be easier to
be sure you're getting a truly complete set.

My question is: when did this policy change? Since at least 2009, I'd always
understood that a set was considered "Complete" on BrickLink if all the pieces
to build the model(s) from the instructions were there, regardless of whether
or not stickers were present.

A couple of years ago at least.

"The set must include all original stickers used on the model either still on
the sticker sheet or applied."

Thanks, starbeanie. I feel like there should have been an email sent out to all
BrickLink members to notify them, as this is a MAJOR change in listing that potentially
affects every seller.

If they did send out such a communication and I missed it, then that's on
me.

they should also have sent out an email regarding

Incomplete Minifigs - All minifigs, both New and Used, must be listed as Complete.
Incomplete minifigs should be broken down and listed as parts, or listed in the
custom items section with a custom photo and clear description.

But they didn't

Nothing recently changed in regard to definition of "complete set". It has been
like this for years.

Indeed, at least six years:

"Set contains all parts necessary to build all of the models (including alternate
models) in the instructions but does not have to contain the original box/packaging
and/or extra parts. If the set is missing instructions, the description must
state so. If the set did not come with instructions then the set should include
all parts listed in the picture inventory which is located on the box or bucket.
The set must include all original stickers used on the model either still on
the sticker sheet or applied."

Can anybody confirm that the rule was different before that about stickers? Because
I'm like 99% certain that it was.

Even though the archive was made in 2015, it says “This document was last updated
on Oct 10, 2010 18:37 by Admin.”
That makes it at least 10½ years ago.

I am pretty sure that it has been like that since I joined BrickLink in 2009,
so it goes back that far at least. In other words, this is nothing remotely new.

Since I have been on the site (2008) the sticker rule has always been the same.
In fact, I believe this is the primary reason why we have an incomplete listing
option for sets, because of the difficulty in listing vintage used sets with
all the stickers.

What did change around 2009-2010 was that instructions were no longer required
to list a set as complete. But it is my understanding that stickers always were
required, because they were critical to the build.

Interesting! Well, somehow I got the impression stickers weren't required
for a set to be Complete, but I've been here since 2009 and they appear to
have been required prior to that.

I have changed my two listings of sets without complete stickers accordingly.
This actually makes more sense, and I'm glad to know I was wrong about it.

It's been a rule for a while, but enforcement has been in the last 6+ months.
See the policy information here:
