Recently purchased a few Quatro 2x4s just because I collect things 2x4 and thought
I’d mount some Duplo 2x4s on them for some photos. I found only half the Duplo’s
would fit. It appears the side supports for Duplo 2x4s comes in two variants,
some are lower down (hence won’t sit on top of a Quatro brick) and some are a
bit higher (these do sit neatly on a Duplo). It really makes no odds to me but
I could see it being an issue for a MOC builder building something large and
using a combo of the two as filler. Do any of the 2x4 experts out there know
anything about these Duplo variants? Ta.

This is but one of the many variants that BrickLink has not kept records for.
If you'll submit a comparison photo for the part, then we'll add an
additional note to the catalog entry and add the Duplo 2 x 4 brick to our list
of known variants.

Looking at my 3011 bricks:
- mold number 117 and higher fit on Quatro.
- Bricks are known with LEGO and DUPLO on the studs. I don't have enough
of them to give a list of mold numbers or an estimated time period.
- looking at the patterns printed on the bricks, the molds stayed in use for
a long time. It seems very likely that sets contained mixed mold versions.

I found 3011pb005 with mold number 116 and 117. That indicates this mold was
in use around 2004-2005. That matches the introduction of Quatro in 2004.

Thanks for that info Woutr, I updated the catalogue with an image to show an
example.

The Duplo bricks I have here, 106 - 116 won't fit and 117 - 124 will. But
I have a red 113 that does fit the Quatro brick and has the same height supports
as the newer versions.

I don't have a 113. I am missing several mold numbers.
