Can anyone enlighten me on why so many eBay sellers will immediately list brand
new sets for double their retail price? Does anyone actually buy these? Only
reason I could work out would be if Lego won’t ship to a county.

Not just eBay, I see this in other marketplaces too. It's hard to believe
for some of us but there are enough people out there who just don't check
prices for things to sell at inflated prices. Call it lazy, time hungry, rich
kids, whatever many people pay too much for all sorts of things.

Normally, or a business model to work, someone has to buy into the product.
If no one buys it, the business model must change.

For these sellers, if no one was buying their products, they would have to change
their prices. However, if people keep buying from them, they will keep selling
as they do.

It's as easy as, people seem to pay a lot more for things than they should.
When people stop buying things at inflated prices, the prices will be reduced.

Some people will buy them. Plus it doesn't cost the seller anything to not
sell, so once they have their listing ready then can just roll it over again
and again until it sells.

Plus it gets buyers used to seeing higher prices, which helps to push up prices.
It also gets other sellers used to seeing higher prices, so they might list at
higher prices than they would have otherwise.
