| Dear BrickLink members,
If you have been with BrickLink for a long time, there is no doubt that you have heard about BrickLink XP from us or the community. The goal of BrickLink XP was to deliver an easier and more streamlined shopping experience and to be mobile-friendly with a responsive interface. Today, you will be able to experience the redesign with the beta release of BrickLink XP.
What is BrickLink XP?
BrickLink XP is our vision for the future of BrickLink where the platform is approachable to everyone, and that begins with people coming out of their dark ages and trying to purchase something to rekindle that fire. This is why the redesign in this beta phase focuses on the buyer's experience.
To accomplish these goals, we did the following:
* Redesigned the BrickLink platform so that BrickLink can be used on any browser, whether it is a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone.
* Updated the interface to help users find what they're looking for with visual cues, rather than small text and lists.
* Re-mapped the entire catalog in a way that is more logical to new users.
* Built a smarter search to help take some of the work out of finding what you need.
* Improved checkout and order management process to increase ease of use and problem resolution
In addition, buying items on BrickLink XP is more streamlined. On the new item detail page, the best store is automatically suggested for you by taking many factors into consideration. You can still view the list of stores with that item for sale if the suggested store does not meet your requirements. Please keep in mind that these are real listings from real stores; if you make a purchase on BrickLink XP, it is a real purchase and you are obligated to send payment.
BrickLink XP currently only works with stores that support Onsite Payment. If your store does not support Onsite Payment, we recommend that you set it up to get the most out of our new platform.
How do I give feedback?
During the beta phase of BrickLink XP, we would love to hear from you about your experience. On the bottom left of every page is a white “Give feedback” button (or a circular button with an email icon if you're on a mobile device) that will allow you to submit bug reports, feature requests, or just general feedback. We may not follow up with every submission, but we are actively monitoring them all.
What’s next?
This is just the beginning. We already have improvements planned for BrickLink XP that will begin development alongside the beta phase. We also plan to extend our new design methodologies and forward-thinking into the sellers’ space with Seller Tools this year.
While BrickLink XP is in the beta phase, it will run alongside the current Classic version. The plan is for it to eventually replace BrickLink Classic once the new platform is feature complete. This will all happen over a long period of time to allow our members to adjust to the new platform.
We are enthusiastic about BrickLink XP and look forward to bringing visual and functional updates to make everyone’s experience on BrickLink an enjoyable one.
Take a deep breath and visit BrickLink XP.
Thank you,
BrickLink Team

Anyway. One question. What about price guide for parts? The single most
important feature of the site that is vital to how I need to run the business.

| Please indicate how stores are selected. I've tested this with domestic stores,
both logged in and logged out, and get differnt answers. It does not at all give
the best option and neither an average option.
Not all catalogue items are searchable at this time, I think that should be
mentioned.
At present, the "improvements" you made on the beta release for order menus and
the search box is playing havoc on the actual supposedly working site. That really
actually negate whatever step forward this is.
Actually no, as a seller on here and a customer of BL, I want the precise detail
as to how my store will be marketed to buyers. That little tiny icon at the bottom
for other domestic and international sellers just does not do it for me.

I noticed this, too, even on the "Classic" side. I generally ignore the recommendations,
especially the "auto-select", but you're correct, especially as a seller,
to ask for the algorithm, I'd like to see it myself.

It looks much better.

I still can't figure out how to buy anything or see any stores. Is there
supposed to be something in the Quantity and Condition box where it says "Error!"
If so, that is a very useful new feature...the ability to save me money by not

That's super weird, I don't get that error. For me it shows a store with
a big green Add to Cart button.

It's just for the buyers side right now. But there is also no storefront.

Interesting.
I have many questions, but I guess we will all see how this plays out.
I'd wager that larger volume/ variety /rare item stores would be the "winners"
here under this interface. Whether that's good or bad I guess depends on
who you ask.
Aside from the errors, I think it looks nice, I don't know how easy it is
to use on my end, but I can't argue that it isn't pretty.
Looking forward to seeing what happens with this.

From the WL page, is that why the only way you can buy something is with "Easy
Buy", and buyers are now forced to only buy from the RECOMMENDED buyers?
This ties back to the comment above about the algorithm...
I have a BIG problem with this, on so many levels!

Well, buying a WL seems easy, it’s buying what you want (and only what you want)
that seems impossible.
All the features available on the “new-now-classic” Buy page are gone!
Buy a WL: you get stores, but
— you don’t know what is to be bought in each one, unless you create the carts,
— you don’t know if everything has been found, unless you create the carts and
check every single lot,
— you don’t know if it’s not buying more than needed (bulk lots and such, that
EasyBuy sometimes select), unless you creat the carts and check every single
lot,
— you don’t know about other stores,
— there are no filters (EasyBuy is known not to follow the general WL settings).
Sure, many people didn’t know you can do that on the “new-now-classic” Buy page,
— I have a ready-made copy-paste to explain this and use it at least once or
twice a week (I used it again less than an hour ago)—, but lack of documentation
is not a reason to get rid of a feature!

BL is not easy to use on a smart phone but, XP is not remotely useable for anyone
trying to find what they are looking for! It makes no sense at all.

What? You don't think it will be easy for *new* buyers to find what they
want in the "Retired & Miscellaneous" category? /s
Here is a fun game for everyone:
(1) Go to https://www.bricklink.com/r3/catalog/parts/browse.page
(2) You must use the navigation provided without using the search bar.
(3) Time how long it takes you to find
No cheating!

Here's another fun game. Find all the sets in the Alien Conquest theme. And
you can use the search bar. But only on XP, not classic or any other website
and you cannot use another site to lookup the set names first.
The quickest way I found to do it is to search for ac001, then check which sets
that figure comes in. Then move to ac002 and so on. Of course, you could guess
at sequential numbers for the sets once you find one and search for those although
that would not find the polybags. The battle pack is the only set that has any
definite link to Alien Conquest.
LEGO wrote Alien Conquest on the boxes for these sets. Why does Bricklink think
it is logical to remove all reference to it in their re-mapped catalogue?
The new interface may look a bit like BO, but at least there they kept the original
LEGO theme names.

Wow. That is unbelievably awful. It's like all the work that has been painstakingly
done over 20 years by countless AFOLs to categorize things has been thrown away
without so much as a single thought. It's one giant middle finger to the
AFOL community is what it is. LEGO better be listening. If they don't allow
the community here to influence where this site goes, it will lose the AFOLs,
the exact thing that they said they are trying to embrace.

That's good to hear coming from you.
Unfortunately they appear to have had a single thought. Exactly one thought and
acted on it. As I said earlier, I thought Bricklink had AFOLs working there,
but I guess they do not, or they do and they are just not listened to. Luckily
other sites have preserved catalogues of themes.
It is funny in a way, when the last owner bought the site, they stopped other
people from using the catalogue commercially. At least they seemed to know the
value of the catalogue. Now LEGO come in and one of the first things that happens
under their ownership is this.

I don't think it's a matter of what Russell agrees with personally. He's
an employee.
And as such, the catalog policy enforcement that he has overseen has been pretty
clearly pointing in this direction for some time. Bricklink is betting that the
way forward for the site is to attract buyers interested in bulk purchases of
new parts, and sellers who part out new sets.
This is why, for example, there is an inventory policy that is based on how current
new sets are packaged, which has been slammed into place over the older inventories
where it doesn't really fit. As a result, information has been lost and unreliable
information has been introduced to older set inventories so that the catalog
better serves the new set part-out sellers and the bulk buyers of new parts.
So XP should not come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention.
The only effective way to use it is in conjunction with a want list (which means
multiple parts) and it defaults to new parts.
It should surprise the current admins least of all, in my opinion, as they have
been the ones doing the actual legwork of this transition, even defending it
vehemently at times. I have questioned it and criticized them for it and was
banned for doing so.
Well Russell has a big job ahead of him if he feels BL policy requires him to
ban everyone else who is now critical of the idea that the catalog should be
victimized in order to serve what BL feels is the most lucrative segment of the
market.
But I don't expect you'll see him around this thread much moving forward.
It has now entered the "blowing off steam" phase of the Bricklink update cycle.
This is where the forum users are just allowed to keep ranting without comment
from Bricklink until other topics push it down the list (like the incessant bug
reports that invariably follow any change to the site), where it can be ignored
until the next crisis emerges.

You're so right. And it is a sad misunderstanding that the forum can work
like a pressure valve for people to vent their frustrations. Sure, things get
quiet eventually. That is an accurate observation. But people don't go silent
because they've learned to accept the reality. They go silent because they
give up, are too frustrated, or decided to spend time on other things or buying
and selling through different channels instead.
And then it appears as if the community is just grumpy on a permanent basis for
no clear reason.. wonder why..

| As a relatively new user, still trying to learn the terms used here, it took
a me about half an hour to find the hook.
Even though we have a few of these hooks, I didn't connect the dots to the
category I found it in.
I did the same game on the "Classic" GUI and found the hook in less than a minute.
This exercise was very educational and helps make some of the discussions about
the changes being made to the catalog make more sense.
Nonetheless, from a buyer perspective, I'm more likely to just use the search
bar, but I can see where it will have a very significantly detrimental impact
for sellers...

In any case, I can't even buy anything from the new site, so it is just a

| Support for XP ended 6 years ago. Next year we'll get BL Vista.
| Actually, when browsing the new catalog, it looks distinctly like BO...
Niek.
|
|
|
I couldn't find it either, I just used the link somewhere in the top half
of the thread.
Otherwise, no clue

I'm not set up for Onsite Payment, but the update seems to have broken numerous
features of the Classic version:
1. Leaving feedback for buyers results in an error message and no chance to preview
the message.
2. I'm unable to set the order status to Shipped.
3. Because of #2 above, I'm unable to send a Drive Thru message.
I guess we should expect it by now, but I can't fathom why BrickLink would
launch this new interface on the live server without Beta testing beforehand.
When will these issues be fixed??

Thanks for your reply, but can you please address the other two issues I raised?
Leaving feedback is working (albeit with an error message), but I'm more
concerned about my inability to mark the order shipped and send a notification
with tracking info via the Drive Thru function. When will this be fixed?

Not so, a store that support both instant checkout and onsite payment, shows
me the following:
"Store has not selected any payment methods accepted for buyer.
We can help you find alternate stores for items in this cart."
Is the payment methods only limited to paypal?

| Please remove this garbage code off the servers and rest things back to the way
it was. This site has been running good for about 4-6 weeks and now i'm
getting errors leaving feedback and drive thru's. With everyone locked
up and staying at home, orders have increased 400% and I can't deal with
a ton of errors' slowing me down.

Not to be funny, but I have ordered from you before and I know you have onsite
payments. This set: which you have listed, does not come up on the
listings at all.
Also [p=36069c01] which you also have with no minimum buy, onsite enabled and
shipping internationally, does not come up at all. Seems your entire store is
MIA from BL ver 3

Hello BJE! Indeed, for some reason, I couldn't find myself for the first
few moments, not sure why. However, after a few hours I was able to see my store
in XP.
Do you see it? Actually, I just re-enabled instant checkout to your country,
which would have been disabled for a set like this one (due to coronavirus).
That could maybe be a reason.

Ah there you are in full glory
And at least the header to your terms also displays correctly, there are some
stores for who that shows gibberish. I'm not sure about the shipping issue,
it seems that stores that do not ship to the buyer's country are completely
excluded altogether, so you might be right there. It is going to take some getting
used to over the old price guide.

Ok, I figured it out...
The things I was checking were all for sale in used condition in my store and
BL XP has only condition "new" preselected.
I was expecting to see every store (used/new) just like it shows on the current

In that case, I am not interested. Bricklink's onsite payment options are

In NEWS, Admin writes:

Let's hope Bricklink is going to implement iDeal directly. In that case,
for my part, I could accept living without IBAN (even though that is a loss and
a cost increase). BrickOwl is going to implement iDeal, so hopefully Bricklink
will too.

And no South African seller in his right mind offers paypal for buyers in South
Africa because you pay extra forex commissions, wait a week for your money and
have to jump through hoops to get it set up. Bank transfers only way to go, mobile
payments a close second. Stripe a distant third. They must get this sorted and
fast.

I probably missed it, but if someone could help me out with this and how Bricklink
XP was designed to work. I know it's designed exclusively for buyers, so
I do not anticipate seeing anything for the seller on that side of things.
It's the buying experience that I'm a little bit confused about. I understand
that it's to streamline the experience for buyers, make it more intuitive,
mobile-friendly, etc... But is it intended to remove the option for buyers to
"shop" in a single store? Are they only supposed to be shopping by creating wishlists/carts
and then doing a Global Cart checkout?
For example (putting my buyer hat on), I often like to shop in a single store
to perhaps keep the shipping down. Or I just really like a particular seller,
even if it might cost me a bit more. So I just want to browse their offerings.
In XP, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to browse a store. All
of the store names were not linked. I do understand that the Easy Buy will help
possibly find the cheapest option for people, but as a buyer that's not always
how I like to shop. I sometimes like to just browse for other items that a seller
has (perhaps to add to an Easy Buy cart I made. Basically to add items that I
wasn't originally intending on purchasing). I did an Easy Buy for this one
MOC and I landed in Bob's store, but before I checkout, let's go see
what else Bob has to sell incase I want to throw that in my cart.

Once you make a cart, you can then shop the store and add items, but that's
not very apparent, nor how I typically work; I'm more aligned with your method.
Regarding WL's, I much prefer the "Classic" method of seeing a list I can
sort in various ways, and selecting the stores from that list that meet my criteria.
I already stated above, that I am very much concerned that buyers are now tied
to "Recommended" stores and don't know what that selection and costing criteria
is. I have found, several times, that stores are selected that either don't
ship to me, or the S&H is prohibitively high.
Under this new XP scheme, I'm pretty much hosed to fix any of these kinds
of errors.
