So, new ToS to agree to out of the blue - no mass mailing to say so, no reason
for changes, no summary of the majostr changes, nothing. Some things just never
change.

As to the terms, although I agreed, members should note that accepting the default
cookie settings will result in 404 errors and 404 loop errors. Accept all cookies
and you'll be fine. You have to do that first to read this though

I accepted all, and it still didn't work. Five minutes later and it did.

I didn’t accept all and it worked but then, I took time to (fast-) read the new
ToS

Anyway, you can change the setting they say….

Good point. I tried to read most of it, but what actually changed? I saw a clause
about respecting consumer rights, could be new? Or maybe it just stood out to
me because we recently discussed it on the forum.

And the fact the “[terms and policies] are now governed by and construed in accordance
with Danish law”

(But for US customers.)

A lot of the Lego imposed changes are built in now. 1-1-2020 is coming and that's
the date Lego owns BrickLink (and your accountdata....)

Sadly no warning, just popped up and stopped everything.

Thought BL had been hacked and it was a front for a virus or malware.

Took some time but eventually found out it was for real.

Eventually gave up trying to accept on the iPad, it just wouldn't work, had
to use a laptop to accept and then start again with the iPad.

Working fine now.

Welcome to corporate legalize - not liking the militant agreement. This place
will hardly be the casual brick fan friendly site. Hate this.

Well.. what's bad about it? I tried to read it all and it seems like positive
changes to me. Seems like it's getting more serious and professional.

Loss of independence and changing culture is not welcoming to me. Yea, I am not
a fan of large corporations, personal outlook.

Everything is going corporate in practice, even our schools.

Well, me neither, but this actually strikes me as opposite to what large corporations
like to do. Instead of pretending to be above the law like Uber and Amazon and
just waiting for fines and paying them, I see things like greater respect for
privacy laws and consumer laws. I didn't really study everything closely,
but so far those points at least seem professional, just like the cookie notice.
It's looking more like you'd expect from a professional place, big or
small.

Then again, I understand the new rules about custom items may get people upset.
Especially sellers who specialise in them. It's not exactly professional
that there isn't a clear statement on how much time they have left to change
their business, if any at all.. Personally though, I like this limitation to
official Lego items. There's already so many ways to sell other random stuff..
but that's just my point of view and easy to say for a seller who only sells
official items

A large corporation has owned BrickLink since June, 2013. Did you trust them
more because they stayed hidden in the shadows?

I'm not a fan of big business, either, but the new owners have far more invested
in BrickLink than the former owners. It's their brand.

A pleasure to read opinions like this, which you know are true even if you don't
know how to express them. Thank you!

True, but time will tell how the influence changes the culture here (or not).

I'm still not sure exactly how I feel about the LEGO take over. Part of
me is pretty sure that things can't really get any worse than they are but
I also have the same reservations about large corporations that you do. Of course
if a large corporation had not been successful in producing wildly popular building
bricks, BrickLink wouldn't exist at all. It's vexingly paradoxical.
I want to keep large corporations at arm's length, but one particular corporation
make a product that that I thoroughly enjoy. All I can say is that I've
always thought that LEGO was different, and I hope I will continue to feel that
way.

I do know that LEGO has a great deal of respect for the AFOL community (anyone
who has been part of a successful LUG will attest to this). So, as others have
said, I do believe that LEGO wants BrickLink to continue being successful. Hopefully
their idea of success is concordant with that.of the AFOL community. I'm
pretty sure they understand AFOLs quite a bit better than the current BL management
could ever hope to.

Strongly agree, perhaps the time is coming for a good change in BL, abandoning
practices already periclited.

Best regards

The IP policy on MOCs.

I use Lego for props for roleplaying games. If I was to post the... uhm... "generic
floating eyeball monster" I've used for foreever and a day, that's iffy.
If I just call it a "beholder", then I"m stepping on D&D who is owned by Wizards
of the Coast, who is owned by Hasbro. I can post the design, but no one can download
the io file or get a parts list. For now. Next comes the declaration that the
list of what you can't post will be discretionary, and you'll start seeing
designs just be taken down.

So... Star Wars MOCs, Ninjago MOCs, they'll be going soon. Ditto Star Wars
and Battlestar Galactica and Space 1999. All the ones that probably should come
under the fair use clause and be classed as fan art. And since Lego is afraid
of modern military MOCs, yeah, those will go soon enough.
