Hi All,

I have had a small order placed from abroad, Bricklink instant checkout has incorrectly
charged the postage. If it had been a large order i would just make up the postage
but as its only £4 i will end up losing out making up the postage. The buyer
refuses to pay the extra postage or to cancel the order. Now it has been up under
NSS and i cannot cancel the order and when the buyer finally cancels it i will
receive a warning.

Is there anything i can do apart from send the order and lose out?

Any advice wpuld be appreciated

If I were you I'd just send the order and lose out as painful as it may be,
then go through all your overseas postage options to try and fix it or make overseas
orders invoice only until you work it out. I think we've all done this one
before.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I thought that would be the case, the problem was due to some large tyres having
no dimensions set and they are wider than a large letter.

Ill get i posted out tomorrow and try and forget about it.

Cheers

If there's an item I list that is over the 2.5cm limit and it doesn't
have any dimensions I just set that item to manual invoice, bit of a faff but
saves the day (very common with Bionicle parts). If I get time I try to add the
dimensions to the Bricklink database.

Hi Mark, I've done it myself. Just put it down as a bad job and let it go.
Take the loss. The more you dwell on it, the bigger you make the issue. If I
was the buyer, I'd either agree to the correct postage or cancel the order.

Just send it and accept the loss.

To cancel instant checkout order you'll have to mark the payment status as
none and the order status as ready. Then you'll see the cancel option.

The buyer is right. By law you do not have the right to cancel an order after
accepting and confirming it (which Bricklink does automatically) for other reasons
than items not being in stock. Ship it, tweak your IC, and move on.

Yeah sounds right. Just wanted clarification on what most people would do.

Generally the instant checkout works fine. Only issues i find is when the customer
has bought a large amount of small parts which would never fit in the space specified.
But in this case i would just pay the difference.

When a customer overpays on postage due to the instant checkout i would always
refund the difference back. I thought this would work both ways out of respect
as the system cant be 100% perfect.

I have worked very hard to keep every customer happy which shows from my feedback.

Cheers

Yeah, it's a process of trial and error. I think a good guideline is to set
the max size to 50% of what it actually can be. Bricklink underestimates size
pretty extremely, but from what I figured out so far, setting the max size to
50% of what it can be delivers fairly consistent results.
When you do overcharge, you can keep it. Sometimes I send refunds if there was
an obvious mistake, but otherwise I don't, and just configure the system
that I neither lose nor win in the end. I think buyers rather know the exact
cost upfront than have a situation where charges can turn out higher or lower.

I sometimes get orders through IC that end up costing more in shipping. I just
stomach the loss. I don't like bothering my customers for extra money. At
the end of the day it's not their fault. It's mine for not correctly
sorting my shipping/part dimensions. I just own up and move on and correct anything
I need to. For me mistakes are a huge learning curve and I like that they pop
up now and again.

Hi Mark.

Not exactly helpful advice, but I do not have instant checkout in my store.

Thanks

How did "Bricklink instant checkout charge the wrong postage"? How does this
constitute a "problem buyer"?
